Abstract: An illuminated travel make-up mirror comprising a frame for pivotally mounting a mirror used in applying make-up. Small incandescent bulbs are arranged in a frame in spaced and opposing parallel rows in juxtaposition with the mirror, with the bulbs being seated in parallel paraboloidal reflectors and having their filaments located at the focus of the paraboloid. The axes of the bulbs and of the reflectors in each row are inclined at an angle with respect to the frame and towards each other so that the light rays therefrom converge at a locus or point beyond the face of a user to maximize illumination of the user's face.The bulbs are powered by electric batteries and switching impedance or resistance means are provided for dimming or reducing the intensity of the light rays. The mirror is provided with hinged front and rear covers and when folded towards each other allow the mirror to be self-supported for use on a flat surface.

Abstract: A haircutting appliance comprises an enclosed housing having a hollow handle connecting the housing to a vacuum source to carry away cut hairs from a subject's head. A manually operated or finger depressible member is pivotally mounted on the handle in a manner that the same hand of the user which holds or grips the handle can also operate the finger depressible member which permits the other hand of the user to be free for other purposes.A motion transmitting mechanism is located in the housing of the appliance and interconnects the finger depressible member with the cutting scissor blades. The finger depressible member is connected to a slidable plate in the housing which is provided with structure to actuate the haircutters for severing hair entering the housing. Hair spacers are carried by the housing to selectively determine the length of hair to be cut.

Abstract: Apparatus for brewing coffee having a heating compartment provided with water at various predetermined levels depending upon the number of cups of brewed coffee desired. A U-shaped syphon tube is provided in the heating compartment and is arranged so that the water level in the heating compartment is always below the top of the bight portion of the tube prior to being heated to a predetermined temperature. When the pressure within the heating compartment reaches a predetermined discharging value, water at the proper temperature in the heating compartment is caused to discharge through the syphon tube and out of the compartment. A pressure vent, having an orifice exposed to the pressure within the heating compartment, serves to delay the attainment of the discharging pressure until the water reaches the proper temperature.

Abstract: An indicator for indicating values of a variable condition being measured, as for example in a portable air cleaner having replaceable filters subjected to particulates in the air. The indicator is provided with an indicia scale marked off in uniformally spaced graduations with shading between the graduations being non-uniform and proportional to the condition being measured.

Abstract: The components of an electric warm-air humidifier are enclosed in a housing. The components include an evaporation chamber in the shape of an inverted cup which has a steam outlet in its top and contains an electric heating element positioned at a short distance above its open bottom. The chamber bottom and the heating elements are immersed in water contained in the main compartment of an open, removable tray, having a smaller filling compartment communicating with the main compartment. The tray may be removed from the housing for cleaning. The neck of an inverted, removable jug filled with water is placed into the filling compartment, and water fills the tray until its level reaches the lower rim of the jug's neck. A blower is mounted above the evaporation chamber and delivers cool air through a duct which communicates with the evaporation chamber via its steam outlet, and humidified air is blown back into the room.

Abstract: An inner cutter assembly drive means for an electric dry shaver having a flexible foil outer cutter wherein the motor operated drive means include an arcuate shaped universal drive head connection between the drive means and the walls of a cutter drive slot in the support member for the inner cutter assembly permitting downward, upward and swiveling movement of the inner cutter during reciprocation to maintain shearing contact with the undersurface of the foil.

Abstract: A laminated exothermic hair curler is described having a first sheet formed of a liquid impervious material which includes a plurality of apertures and a second non-perforated sheet of liquid impervious material which is sealed in assembly with said first sheet and provides an enclosure into which an activating fluid can enter through apertues in the first sheet. A liquid absorbent sheet is positioned within the enclosure adjacent the first sheet and chemically reactive means for generating an exothermic reaction are positioned between the absorbent sheet and the second laminate sheet. This laminate assembly is formed into an elongated curler body having an arc-shaped cross sectional configuration.

Abstract: A hair roller is disclosed which is adapted to be expanded from a substantially flat configuration into a body having an elongated, cylindrically shaped configuration which is substantially resistant to bending and buckling. The hair roller comprises first and second generally planar shaped, flexible roller members which are hinge coupled along their edges. The roller members are deflectable into a body having a generally cylindrical configuration and a fastener means is provided for maintaining the configuration. The fastener means includes a fastener member which is hinge coupled to a first of the roller members and improved means integrally formed on the other roller member for engaging the fastener member.

Abstract: A device for lifting and dislodging ingrown facial or neck hairs from the skin and which device is adapted for use either independently or as incorporated in the cutter head of electric dry shaver. The device includes a plate member formed with raking teeth projecting outwardly of a recessed portion of a hand-held casing or from the outer cutter of a cutter head assembly for traversal across the skin of the user.

Abstract: A powered hair trimmer is described which is provided with a hair thinning comb. The comb guides strands of hair toward cutter teeth of the trimmer for shearing and inhibits the introduction between the cutter teeth of some of the guided strands.

Abstract: An improved hand-held electric powered hair trimming appliance is described comprising a comb and a cutter. The appliance is adapted to be advanced along a bed of hair in the same type of combing motion as is used to style the hair and the cutter is transported simultaneously with the comb. The comb is adapted to apply a force to strands of hair being combed causing distal segments thereof to deflect away from the bed of hair. The cutter is positioned in the path of the deflected segments of hair for shearing thereof by the cutter. Predetermined spacing of the cutter with respect to the comb provides for the majority of the sheared distal segments having a predetermined length.

The smoothing comb provides for limiting extension of the latter hair strands into the path of the cutter teeth of the hair trimming appliance.
