  • Patent number: 4257740
Abstract: An improved speed governor is disclosed for feathering a plurality of blades on a windmill. Each blade is attached through a rotatable shaft to a support plate which in turn drives an output shaft. Each blade shaft is connected through a control rod to a governor hub which is free to slide axially on the output shaft. A spring biases the governor hub to a position wherein the blades assume a desired initial pitch. As the speed developed by the windmill increases, the force on the blades is applied through the control rods to move the governor hub against the spring. As the governor hub moves the control rods simultaneously and equally change the pitch of the blades to limit the maximum speed of the windmill.

  • Patent number: 4115498
Abstract: Method of continuously molding articles from a fibrous material containing a hardenable bonding material wherein a quantity of fibrous material is supplied to a forming member that engages the surface of the fibrous material and shapes the material into the desired cross-sectional shape. The exterior surface of the shaped fibrous material is then heated so that the bonding material on the exterior surface of the fibrous material cures to form a hard, tough skin on the exterior surface of the fibrous material. Then, additional heat is supplied to the fibrous material to cure the remaining uncured bonding material on the fibrous material so the fibrous material will be held in the desired shape by the cured bonding material.

  • Patent number: 4061285
Abstract: This invention relates to apparatus for collecting linear material defining a collector rotatable about a fixed axis onto which the linear material can be wound as a package. Located proximate the collector is a traverse guide for positioning the linear material on the collector. The traverse guide is urged towards the package at a substantially uniform pressure throughout the formation of the package by biasing means. The movement of the traverse guide is controlled by clutch means during formation of the package so that the traverse guide is restricted from moving towards the package.

  • Patent number: 4026689
Abstract: A feeder for delivering streams of molten mineral material for attenuation into filaments having an electrically conductive bottom wall with orifices formed therein. The molten material in the feeder passes through the orifices and is delivered as streams for attenuation into fibers. Extending from the bottom wall, in a direction generally normal to the plane of the bottom wall, are electrically conductive side and end walls. Positioned within the feeder generally parallel to the plane of the bottom wall is a molten material conditioning means. On the exterior surface of each of the end walls there is a terminal for conducting electrical energy to the feeder to heat the walls and molten material conditioning means of the feeder and thereby condition the molten material in the feeder. Each of the terminals has an inner portion attached to the end walls at the location of the molten material conditioning means. The inner member is positioned so that it is generally parallel to the plane of the bottom wall.

  • Patent number: 4025686
Abstract: A resinous article and method for making the article wherein a body of fibrous reinforcing material and syntactic foam containing a low density filler are placed in a molding and curing chamber with the reinforcing material in contact with the surface of the chamber. A molding pressure is then exerted on the chamber to mold and cure the body of material into a finished article. The pressure exerted being sufficient to force a portion of the resinous material in the syntactic foam through the reinforcing material to form a resin rich surface on the article. However, the low density filler material is retained within the core area of the article by the reinforcing material and forms a lightweight syntactic foam core. The resulting article has an outer skin, a layer of fibrous reinforcing material beneath the skin and bonded to the skin, and a core of lower density syntactic foam.
