  • Patent number: 5822862
Abstract: Shaving systems having a first support, at least one, and preferably a plurality, of resilient supports, and a plurality of skin-engaging elements movably arranged in spaced relation and supported by the resilient support. The resilient supports normally maintain the movable skin-engaging elements, e.g. blades, guards, and/or cap member, in spaced relation such that the movable, skin-engaging elements are spaced by a first distance, relative to each other, when the skin-engaging elements are in a normal, unbiased position. In one embodiment, when one or more of the skin-engaging elements is acted upon by forces normally encountered during shaving, the resilient supports yield in order to move each of the blades and the cap into a more aggressive position.

  • Patent number: 5813119
Abstract: A razor which actively flexes at least one, and preferably a plurality of skin-engaging elements during shaving to follow the contours of a skin surface. One preferred razor comprises a support and a pair of rotating pivots movably connected to the support. Each rotating pivot contacts separate portions of a razor head. Shaving forces exerted on a first razor head portion in a first direction will cause the rotating pivot to move a second razor head portion in a second direction which is different from the first direction. The razor also comprises means for biasing the rotating pivots to a neutral position. In one embodiment, the support comprises a pivot assembly to which the rotating pivots are connected thereby providing another degree of movement to the rotating pivots relative to the support.

  • Patent number: 5475923
Abstract: Segmented guard bar wherein segments of adjacent guard bars are tapered such that the skin flow through spaces between the segments is reduced. According to one preferred, illustrated embodiment, the distance between the rearward portion of adjacent segments is less than the space between the forward portions of those segments. Though not limited to any specific type of razor, the present invention is particularly suited for use with a flexible razor head having a cap member, at least one and preferably two blades separated by a spacer, a blade seat having a plurality of blade support portions separated by corrugations, and a segmented guard bar with each segment independently connected to the blade support portions.

  • Patent number: 5458894
Abstract: An apparatus and method including controls for automatically controlling the operating speed of a candy forming machine to make candy pieces of the same size having uniform outer diameters. The candy forming machine itself includes a batch roller for rolling a batch of candy mass, a rope sizer for shaping and sizing the rolled candy mass into a candy rope, and a candy former for cutting and forming the candy rope into candy pieces. By monitoring the size of the candy mass in the batch roller, the machine automatically synchronizes both the speed of the rope sizer and the speed of the candy former to the rate at which candy is introduced into the batch roller. More specifically, the candy forming machine includes a mechanism for sensing a particular candy mass diameter in the batch roller and generating a corresponding signal to a speed control device.

  • Patent number: 5456009
Abstract: Shaving systems having a plurality of cutting edges. At least one fencing element is disposed proximate one cutting edge to prevent a plurality of discrete portions of that first cutting edge from contacting the skin surface being shaved. The other cutting edge is provided with a substantially continuously unobstructed cutting edge. The present invention provides a razor head design permitting skin flow characteristics of shaving to be altered by the fenced blade to affect safety in shaving while the substantially continuously unobstructed cutting edge is exposed to deliver a closeness not obtainable with a totally fenced shaving system.
