  • Patent number: 7090435
Abstract: A method and apparatus for raising, leveling, and supporting a foundation by placing steel piers beneath the necessary peripheral and interior beams and using a jack to raise the slab beams, then allowing the slab beams to rest on piers. The piers are constructed from steel piling segments, driven into the ground, connected with adhesive, and anchored at a depth offering reactive force sufficient to support the foundation. The piling is pointed at its bottom facilitating insertion and preventing upheaval. A crown is attached to the upper most end of each pier which offers a platform to provide a stable support once the jack is removed and easy access to the slab beam for later readjustment. Multiple piers are utilized to achieve a level foundation. Piers may be placed beneath interior beams on a slab without drilling holes in the interior of the slab.

  • Patent number: 7025764
Abstract: Technique for bonding soft biological tissue having an incision therein with forceps adapted to grip a portion of tissue on both sides of incision. Electrodes are secured to forceps for contracting the tissue portion. An electrical power source provides a high frequency electrical signal to electrodes to be passed through the tissue portion. The electrical power source is controlled to provide electrodes with one voltage signal during a first of two stages, wherein the voltage rises linearly, and another voltage signal during a second of the two stages, wherein the voltage is stabilized and modulated with a low frequency rectangular signal. A clamping means applies force with the forceps to compress the tissue at one or different levels during two time periods while the high frequency voltage is passed through the electrodes. The tissue impedance is measured as a function of time, with its minimal value being determined and stored.

  • Patent number: 6929680
Abstract: A process for concentrating and recovering methane and carbon dioxide from landfill gas includes absorption of commonly occurring pollutants using a carbon dioxide absorbent which itself may be in situ recoverable constituent. Separated methane is concentrated into a high heating value fuel, and a carbon dioxide product may also be recovered. Process streams may be used to provide fuel for compression and refrigeration and to regenerate carbon dioxide absorbent.

  • Patent number: 6913011
Abstract: A combination grill, smoker and fireplace device having a tapered configuration, where heat, smoke and/or gas upwardly passes through a tapered interior chamber and exits through a vent system. The tapered chamber collectively includes a heat source, a grate, one or more racks and a rack support means; and is configured to effectively reflect the heat smoke and/or gas at an optimal angle inhibiting the occurrence of radial bounce, reducing thermal bottlenecking, alleviating pressure buildup and increasing thermal efficiency. In an embodiment, the device incorporates a storage compartment to house equipment, accessories and/or materials therein. Alternatively, the device includes screen doors positioned behind the second set of doors being attached to an enclosure. The enclosure may act as a fireplace, grill or smoker and the chamber acts as an elongated chimney.

  • Patent number: 6904697
Abstract: This device facilitates field marking an arc of a circle having an obstructed center. It comprises a first clamp having a slot to engage a standard tape measure and a second clamp having another slot to engage a color-coded tape measure. A detachable swivel joint snap connects the first clamp to the second clamp, and a handle is connected to the first clamp. A method is provided to use the device, a standard tape measure, a color-coded tape measure, a rod, and a scribe to mark out such an arc. The method comprises identifying coordinates of an eccentric ellipse, whose foci are field accessible, that will substantially overlap the arc. The two tape measures are anchored to the two foci. The standard tape measure is stretched tight between the two foci while the color-coded tape measure provides a string line for marking out a closely fitting elliptical arc segment.

  • Patent number: 6834276
Abstract: A data acquisition and perusal system and method including a database selection module, a database index generator module and a search module. The database selection module enables selection of a plurality of files for inclusion into at least one selectable database. The database index generator module enables generation of a searchable index of the data contained in the selectable database. The search module enables a search to be performed of the searchable index according to search criteria. The data acquisition and perusal system and method may also allow users to view, acquire, and generate single- or multiple-data sources locally or remotely, and allow users to compile, index, modify, and append the data sources according to default or user defined criteria. The data acquisition and perusal system and method may also selectively acquire and display data contained within remote databases depending upon the user's access permissions to such databases.

  • Patent number: 6817043
Abstract: A replacement drain cover apparatus for a swimming pool drain to protect a swimmer from entrapment of the swimmer's body or hair and having a drain sump adapter ring for securing means into a pool drain sump and an installation plate for releasably securing onto the adapter ring and for positioning the adapter ring in a pool drain sump for securing the adapter ring in the correct position in the pool drain sump for a drain cover. An anti-entrapment drain cover having a size substantially greater than the pool drain sump is secured to the adapter ring to cover the drain sump and has sufficient cross sectional area so that the velocity of flow under and though the drain cover at any point on the drain cover even if partially blocked by a swimmer is at a rate to protect a swimmer from entrapment of the swimmer's body and hair.

  • Patent number: 6769233
Abstract: A method and system for custom fitting a horse's back with a fitted saddle pad or saddle. A plurality of different sized and shaped rigid molded shells are used for fitting to a horse's back to determine the proper size and shape shell for the horse to distribute the weight of a rider over a large area of the horse's back to minimize pressure points. The fitting shells have spaced holes to allow a fitter to determine the correct size shell for selecting a molded shell for the horse to determine the size and shape of the horse's back for a properly fitted saddle pad or saddle so that substantially the entire lower surface of the saddle pad or saddle contacts the horse's back to minimize pressure points.

  • Patent number: 5787668
Abstract: A composite roofing system in which a layer of polystyrene or polyurethane foam insulation board is encased in layers of lightweight insulating concrete and the surface of the foam insulation board is roughened to strengthen the interfacial bond with the surrounding layers of concrete and provide increased resistance to wind uplift, seismic activity, and degradation of the roofing system caused by vertical loads. Moisture which might otherwise become entrapped in the roofing system by the impermeable insulation board is ventilated out of the system by a combination of openings through the insulation board which permit the migration of moisture between the layers of concrete, and a plurality of lateral slots cut in the insulation board to permit further migration of moisture out of the system.
