  • Patent number: 5501260
Abstract: A jig that may be used to temporarily position a thin adaptor so that it can be attached near the bottom edge of a small, generally planar member such as a card (e.g., a conventional business card or photo, etc.). The jig controls the placement of adaptors and cards with respect to one another, so that each card/adaptor combination will be neatly aligned and spatially balanced. On one of the adaptor's faces there is provided a strip of adhesive that is adequate to permanently attach the adaptor to the bottom portion of a card. The adaptor's lower portion has a set of spaced notches that are designed to mate with (and be held by) a set of rails on a conventional holder, such as a desk-top holder manufactured by the Rolodex Corporation. A generally planar member that makes up the body of the jig, and a set of spatial locating elements is permanently affixed thereto. The generally planar member may be integrally molded into the top of a plastic box that serves as a storage container for a plurality of adaptors.

  • Patent number: 5472204
Abstract: An aiming apparatus attached to the shaft of a putter to help a golfer achieve a desired orientation for the putter's head, said desired orientation being one in which the head is desirably oriented with respect to a target toward which a golfer is about to direct a ball, said putter having an elongated shaft with proximal and distal ends, and there being a grip affixed to the shaft's proximal end and a head affixed to the shaft's distal end, comprising:a) a clamp selectively attached to the putter's shaft near the grip;b) a battery-operated generator of radiant energy that is selectively operable by a golfer to direct a narrowly focussed beam of radiant energy in a predictable direction, said radiant energy being within the range of wavelengths that are visible to the human eye, and the generator having a housing;c) a device for supporting the generator housing with respect to the clamp in such a way that the direction of the beam of radiant energy may be selectively varied by the golfer while the golfer is

  • Patent number: 5452553
Abstract: A waterproof cover having special utility for a flat or low-slope roof for a building. The roof includes a structural part comprising beams, joists, rafters, etc., as well as a substrate in the form of plywood panels, metal decking, etc. A waterproof cover is secured over the substrate. The cover is formed by placing a plurality of waterproof sheets loosely over the structural substrate, and connecting the abutting edges of adjacent sheets to one another, much like an old-fashion quilt is assembled. The preferred sheets constitute lightweight, thin but relatively stiff sheets of resin-impregnated fiberglass having a thickness of about 0.065 inch; and the joints between adjacent sheets are formed in situ by a mixture of fiberglass fibers and cured resin. The plurality of sheets are joined to one another (along their abutting edges) to form one giant waterproof cover.

  • Patent number: 5419613
Abstract: An apparatus for supporting a signaling device such as the controller for a video game, comprising: 1) a support member capable of being bent, twisted or otherwise placed into a plurality of positions; 2) a base configured so that it may be affixed to a chair, the base being adapted for connection to one end of the support member; and 3) a platform connected to the other end of the support member. Additionally, it is advantageous to provide some way for ensuring that a signaling device will not slip off the platform. The support member is made of steel or some other sturdy material, and resists compressive loads in a direction parallel to its longitudinal axis. A preferred support member is a so-called flexible tube, which really is a pair of coiled wires that are intimately wrapped together. It is provided with appropriate connectors at each end--to foster easy connection with other elements.

  • Patent number: 5412512
Abstract: A mirror assembly for external use on large trucks, tractors, buses, etc. A first reflective surface is pivotably supported with respect to a large, shell-like housing in such a way that the surface is movable at will about two perpendicular axes. A powered hydraulic means is used for selectively rotating the reflective surface to a desired position and normally holding it in a static mode. The hydraulic means includes reservoirs in communication with two hydraulic cylinders, and a plurality of check valves arranged in sets and interposed between the reservoirs and the chambers in the cylinders. The hydraulic fluid is chosen from the group that comprises engine oil, power steering fluid, transmission oil and ethylene glycol.

  • Patent number: 5388362
Abstract: An auxiliary safety device intended for use as a magazine safety with a semi-automatic pistol of the Makarov design, said pistol being a blowback-operated, magazine-fed that is operable in double-action or single-action modes. The pistol's factory-original parts include a sear that pivots with respect to the pistol's frame about an axis that is defined by a transverse support post. The pistol has a sear cam that operates on the hammer in double-action operation, and operates on the sear in single-action operation. The auxiliary safety device includes two parts, the first being a relatively thin structural plate having front and rear portions. A relatively large and generally circular opening is located about midway between the front and rear portions; the opening is large enough to fit around and rotate with respect to the transverse post.

  • Patent number: 5343591
Abstract: An apparatus having utility for cleaning large, non-horizontal surfaces such as walls. A generally planar head is adapted to be oriented in a generally vertical manner during use, such that it will have a top, bottom, two sides, and front and rear surfaces. A fibrous pad is sized to cover a substantial portion of the front surface of the head. The pad is selectively removable from the head; but during use the pad is firmly held against the friction forces that are imposed on it by moving the head across the surface being cleaned. A plurality of reservoirs, a conduit, and a pump are provided for supplying a selected cleaning or rinsing liquid at a controlled rate to the top of the head. A low-pressure chamber adjacent the rear of the head is used to collect arty liquid that: has passed through the fibrous pad.
