  • Patent number: 7865457
Abstract: A knowledge management system allocating expert resources, method of allocating expert resources and program product therefor. Information requests are provided over networked devices, e.g., over voice and data networks. Data on experts may be stored in an expert database and data on requesters stored in a requestor database. A pairing unit identifies an appropriate expert matched to each request and requestor. The pairing unit includes a request/requestor characterization unit collecting request/requestor attributes, a matching unit matching request/requestor attributes with an expert, and a routing unit routing each incoming request to a selected matching expert.

  • Patent number: 7864501
Abstract: A lightning strike protection system for protecting composite structures, an improved lightning strike appliqué (LSA) for such a lightning strike protection system, and a method of protecting composite structures, such as an aircraft fuselage. The LSA is electrically connected to adjacent conductive surfaces, e.g., by a fuzz button or a wire bond inserted in the bottom of the LSA. An adjacent conductive surface may be another LSA, a lightning diverter overlay, or a current return network. Charge, e.g., from a lightning strike to the LSA, flows to the conductive layer through the electrical connector.

  • Patent number: 7860618
Abstract: A system, method and program product for maintaining fleet performance for a fleet of platforms, especially for a fleet of aircraft. Part removal data is contained in a maintenance database. A query is constructed for extracting part removal data from the maintenance database. Weibull analysis is applied to extracted part removal data. Exposed aircraft with parts being likely to fail within a given time period are identified from the Weibull analysis results. Overall part failure numbers are generated for each failing part. Inventory is checked to determine if sufficient spares are available to repair all expected failures. Any shortfalls may be covered. A risk report is generated for the fleet and for inventory. Each risk report highlights likely problems that may require immediate attention.

  • Patent number: 7848695
Abstract: A toner brush for a printer and a printer including the toner brush. The toner brush includes a substrate (e.g. a core cylinder) with a cleaning brush and a residual toner brush superimposed over one another. During printing the printer holds the residual toner brush against a photoconductor or photoconductive surface, e.g., a photoconductive drum. For deep cleaning, the printer moves the cleaning brush closer to the photoconductor surface and holds it against the surface during deep cleaning. Deep cleaning may be automatically or manually (e.g., by an operator) initiated.

  • Patent number: 7848262
Abstract: A self healing ad hoc communications network and method of training for and healing the network. The network includes wireless devices or nodes that include a neural network element and the ad hoc network operates as a neural network. Some of the nodes are designated as healing nodes that are identified during network training and are strategically located in the network coverage area. Whenever one group of nodes loses connection with another a healing node may reposition itself to reconnect the two groups. Thus, the network can maintain connectivity without constraining node movement.

  • Patent number: 7839175
Abstract: A Local Clock Buffer (LCB), an IC chip including registers, some of which may include master/slave latches, locally clocked by the LCB, e.g., providing a launch clock and a capture clock each with an identified critical edge. The LCB includes asymmetrically inductively peaked series connected logic gates (e.g., inverters and/or NAND gates), each with an inductor between gate devices and supply (Vdd) or ground. The series connected gates alternate between having the inductor located between gate devices and the supply and located between gate devices and ground, providing asymmetric inductive peaking to maintain the sharpness of the critical edges. Optionally, corresponding logic gates in multiple LCBs may share the same inductor. Asymmetric inductive peaking allows reducing LCB power without degrading performance.

  • Patent number: 7819363
Abstract: An apparatus for controlling the environment of an internal airplane space during loading and unloading of cargo, a cargo tent for use in such transfers and a method of transfer. A collapsible cargo tent is located on a cargo transfer platform at one end of a mobile cargo lift. The collapsible cargo tent may include a collapsible frame and a cargo loader thermal curtain with a vertical strip curtain in an opening at either end. Also, the cargo tent may include a conformable flexible shield at strip curtain opening. The conformable flexible shield engages the fuselage at the door of an aircraft to form an environmental seal and the cargo loader thermal curtain forms a thermal air lock at the door such that cargo may pass through the airlock with the door open and without exposing the cargo bay to external environment.

  • Patent number: 7764622
Abstract: An interplanetary communications network, an interplanetary communications backbone network of Artificial Neural Network (ANN) nodes, an ANN node and a method of managing interplanetary communications. The backbone network operates as a neural network with each node identifying optimum paths, e.g., end-to-end through the backbone network from a distant planet to an earth node. Each node maintains a window matrix identifying reoccurring (e.g., periodically) communications windows between nodes and a propagation delay matrix identifying time varying propagation delays between nodes. Each node determines whether and how long to store packets locally to minimize path delays. Each node also maintains a link cost matrix indicating the cost of links to neighboring nodes and further determines whether and how long to store packets locally to minimize path delays at minimal link cost.
