  • Patent number: 6282292
Abstract: An amplitude insensitive synchronized nonlinear system (AISN) that allows communication between nonlinear systems operating in the chaotic realm which is insensitive to attenuation or signal noise affecting the amplitude of the drive signal, thereby allowing communication between remote systems where the amplitude of the transmitted signal has been varied by an unknown amount.

  • Patent number: 6061135
Abstract: A spatial image separator includes a separating arrangement that separates an incident image pattern into a plurality of segments. The spatial image separator additionally includes a manner of relocating and selectively recombining a set of the segments toward at least one output position. This is accomplished in a manner which preserves information content while significantly improving energy utilization.

  • Patent number: 5854865
Abstract: A technique for the efficient coupling of pump light into a fiber by injeng the light through the side of a fiber leaving the fiber ends accessible to input and output coupling. This technique relies on the fabrication of a groove or a micro-prism into the side of the fiber. The groove shape is adapted effective to the variables of light wavelength, orientation of the source and variables relating to fiber construction so as to allow the efficient injection of pump light. Light emerging from a laser diode or other suitable means for launching light placed on the opposite side of the fiber, and in proximity to the fiber wall, propagates laterally through the fiber and impinges on the sides of the groove. The vertical rays impinging on the grove facets are specularly reflected and directed along the horizontal fiber axis of the outer core. By employing a reflective coating on the groove, the reflectivity of the groove facets approach 100% for a wide range of incidence angles.

  • Patent number: 5773920
Abstract: A field emitter is disclosed comprising a graded electron affinity surface ayer. The graded electron affinity layer provides for increased transconductance, reduced energy distribution of emitted electrons, reduced noise and increased uniformity in its operation.

  • Patent number: 5584740
Abstract: A thin-film edge field emitter device includes a substrate having a first portion and having a protuberance extending from the first portion, the protuberance defining at least one side-wall, the side-wall constituting a second portion. An emitter layer is disposed on the substrate including the second portion, the emitter layer being selected from the group consisting of semiconductors and conductors and is a thin-film including a portion extending beyond the second portion and defining an exposed emitter edge. A pair of supportive layers is disposed on opposite sides of the emitter layer, the pair of supportive layers each being selected from the group consisting of semiconductors and conductors and each having a higher work function than the emitter layer.
