  • Patent number: 8352741
Abstract: A hierarchical key generation and distribution mechanism for a computer system in which devices are organized into secure enclaves. The mechanism enables network access to be tailored to approximate minimum needed privileges for each device. At the lowest level of the hierarchy, keys are used to form security associations between devices. Keys at each level of the hierarchy are generated from keys at a higher level of the hierarchy and key derivation information. Key derivation information is readily ascertainable, either from identifiers for devices or from within messages, supporting hardware offload of cryptographic functions. Because keys may be generated based on the enclaves in which the hosts participating in a security association are located, the system includes a mechanism by which devices can discover the enclave in which they are located.

  • Patent number: 8340714
Abstract: A computing device with a configurable antenna. The antenna is configured through a switching circuit operating under software control. Operating characteristics of the antenna are configured based on connections between conducting segments established by the switching circuit, allowing the nominal frequency, bandwidth or other characteristics of the antenna to be configured. Because the switching is software controlled, the configurable antenna may be integrated with a software defined radio. The radio and antenna can be reconfigured to support communication according to different wireless technologies at different times or to interleave packets according to different wireless technologies to support concurrent sessions using different wireless technologies.

  • Patent number: 8341723
Abstract: Some embodiments of the invention are directed to techniques for determining whether a process on a computer system that is sending or receiving data, or is attempting to send or receive data, with another computer system is executing in kernel mode or user mode and providing an indicator of this determination to a security engine. In some embodiments, such an indication is provided to a security engine (e.g., a firewall) that implements a security policy based at least in part on whether the sending or receiving process is in kernel mode or user mode, and filter communications based on a process' operating mode. This enables a security engine to maintain security policies of greater specificity and thus improve security of a computer system.

  • Patent number: 8321833
Abstract: The subject disclosure relates to a syntax for a scripting language that allows data intensive applications to be written in a compact, human friendly, textual format. The scripting language can be a declarative programming language, such as the “D” programming language, which is well suited to the authoring of data intensive programs. A compact query syntax is provided for D that simplifies the expression of complex and data intensive programs. In another non-limiting aspect, conventional operator precedence is modified to accommodate the compact syntax and other unique features of a general purpose declarative programming language.

  • Patent number: 8296744
Abstract: Embodiments of tree-based directed graph programming structures for a declarative programming language are provided. In various embodiments, complex graph structured data, referred to as “DGraphs” herein in one non-limiting implementation, is authored using a compact, human friendly syntax without the use of explicit identifiers. In one non-limiting aspect, the syntax includes support for conformance relationships, also referred to as factored relationships. In another non-limiting aspect, the semistructured graph data is a tree-based representation and the syntax includes lexical resolution of references or lexical scoping, and/or non local initialization.

  • Patent number: 8286033
Abstract: A method of detecting a network hang and restoring an application that communicates on a connection giving rise to the network hang. A user experience may be improved by providing the user with an option to restore the hung application without losing unsaved data or state information. The network hang may be detected when the user tries to terminate the application. The method may include determining whether the network hang is recoverable, which may involve diagnosing a type of the hang. If recoverable, a network connection reset mechanism may be triggered by instructing a network stack of the computer to terminate the network connection.

  • Patent number: 8275912
Abstract: Systems and methods that ensure formation of a single ring from a seed node at any given time. A “bootstrap” phase is included in a node's life cycle, to mitigate adverse affects of split-brain conditions in a network. During such bootstrap phase, if an existing ring is found, the seed node can join the existing ring in a same manner as a non-seed node does. If no ring is detected, the bootstrap phase attempts to elect a seed node to be the “super-seed node”, wherein a new ring can then be formed with such new super-seed node as the first node.

  • Patent number: 8239823
Abstract: A stripped-down version of a library is generated from server source code extracted from a server project under development. Information extracted from the server source code may include only that information which is exposed to a client project under development. The stripped-down library generated from the extracted server source code is received by a reflection-based component that uses reflection to generate documentation and disclosure information helpful in the development of the client source code. Because the server project does not have to be compiled or ready to be compiled before the software development information for the client project can be provided, development of the server side source code and the client side source code can proceed in tandem or incrementally.

  • Patent number: 8239238
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for encoding a work item type definition. In one embodiment, a method is provided for encoding the work item type definition as a data object, such as an XML document. The work item type definition may include a specification of workflow associated with the work item type, and//or a specification of the display of the work item type by a graphical user interface, such as that which may be provided by a workflow management application.

  • Patent number: 8176465
Abstract: Various technologies and techniques are disclosed for providing pluggable model elements. A modeling application is provided that is operable to allow custom model elements to be loaded. Custom behavior can be associated with the custom model element types in a modular fashion that allows custom behaviors to be plugged in. The modeling application interacts with an artifact mapper to automatically synchronize a particular model in the modeling application with an underlying one or more artifacts represented by the particular model. Events are intercepted between model elements and underlying artifacts that the model elements represent. As events are intercepted, one or more appropriate provider plug-ins are called to perform one or more associated actions. A user who toggles between a modeling application and an artifact source application is provided with a seamless viewing experience because the model elements and underlying artifacts are kept up to date with each other.
