Abstract: A quick connect fluid coupling, and more particularly a quick connect fluid coupling having a minimum number of parts, which can be quickly assembled and disassembled, and which provides a good seal in an environment which is subject to vibrations and to relative motion between a fluid line and a port defining structure.

Abstract: A shock absorber comprising a housing assembly including an elongated cavity for containing hydraulic fluid, an annular cavity surrounding the elongated cavity, a piston assembly including a head slidably received by the elongated cavity and a rod joined to the head for movement therewith, a compressible bladder containing gas under pressure positioned within the annular cavity, and a plurality of orifices defined within the housing assembly through which the elongated and annular cavities communicate with one another. The rod extends through the housing assembly and is movable with the piston head between extended and retracted conditions. The bladder is positioned within the annular cavity so as to extend along at least a portion of the annular cavity and leave uncovered a portion of the inner wall. The plurality of orifices are arranged in a pattern along the uncovered portion of the inner wall.
Abstract: A device for use with a wheel lug nut having a frustoconical exterior surface includes a sleeve-like body adapted to be loosely fitted about the exterior surface of the lug nut so as to substantially cover the exterior surface thereof. The sleeve-like body defines two opposite inner and outer ends and concentrially-arranged, frustoconically-shaped interior and exterior surfaces extending between the inner and outer ends. When operatively positioned about a wheel lug nut used to secure a wheel rim upon a lug stud of a wheel, the sleeve-like body is retained upon the lug nut between the wheel rim and the frustoconical configuration of the lug nut and prevents the lug nut from being tightened or loosened by a tool such as a pipe wrench, operatively clasped about the exterior surface of the sleeve-like body.
Abstract: A corner protector for a tabletop or the like includes a rigid protective body having a platen portion adapted to be received by a recessed region of a tabletop corner and a flange portion which extends generally to one side of the platen portion so as to depend generally downwardly over the tabletop edges at the tabletop corner when the protective body is operatively positioned upon the tabletop. The platen portion defines a plurality of countersunk apertures for the purpose of fixedly securing the protective body to the table with headed fasteners. Each countersunk apertures are sized to accept the head of a flat-headed fastener so that when the protective body is operatively attached to the table corner with the fasteners, the heads of the fasteners do not protrude above the platen portion. The shape of the platen portion is such that the conforming of the shape of the tabletop corner to the shape of a corner of the protective body intended to overlie the table corner is facilitated.
Abstract: A garment that is connectable to a safety line or the like and which includes at least one band, which is intended to take up the weight of a person wearing the garment. The band is disposed to move substantially freely in channels (a-c) in the garment (1), the channels being oriented such that a tensional force in the band, applied at the connection point (21) between it and the safety line, achieves tightening of the band and thereby the garment round the person.
Abstract: A device for detecting the passage of the edge (4a) of a piece of material (4), not parallel to the advancing direction (A) of the material for a sewing machine including a presser foot (2), a needle (1) and a needle plate (3). The device comprises a sensor (7) for generating a magnetic field and a sensor (10) responsive to this magnetic field. A magnet is coupled to the presser foor (2) so that it is on the one hand, applied to the piece of material (4) at a point situated at a distance and in front of the needle (1) of the sewing machine relatively to the advancing direction (A) of the material, and on the other hand, is moved with respect to the presser foot (2) in a direction substantially perpendicular to the plane of the needle plate (3). The sensor is mounted opposite the magnet and fixedly in the sewing machine, under the needle plate (3).
Abstract: A cloth spreading apparatus 10 for spreading cloth from a cloth roll 16 supported by an expandable mandrel 20 onto a work surface 14. The apparatus includes a carriage assembly 24 movable on the work surface between first and second locations. A mounting frame assembly 26 is carried by the carriage and includes a shiftable subframe 118, 120, 122, 124, 126 and 128, a first pivotal portion 94 supported on the subframe and a second portion 96 rotatable 180.degree., the second portion being carried by the pivotal portion. A shifting motor 74 is provided to shift the subframe in response to a cloth edge sensing apparatus 58. A motor driven screw operated scissors jack assembly 102 is provided to pivot the pivotal portion. A cantilevered spring 200 is disposed between the pivotal portion and the rotatable portion and initially accelerates and then decelerates the rotatable portion as it moves 180.degree. from one position to another.
Abstract: A receiver multicoupler having multiple, isolated outputs generated from a single input comprising a no loss signal splitting network connected to the input having insignificant power absorption and being in the form of parallel tuned circuits providing multiple voltage outputs from a single input and a plurality of very high input resistance voltage amplifiers, each of the amplifiers having an input connected to the signal splitting network, and each of the amplifiers acting as an impedance transformation device and supplying isolation.
Abstract: In an automatic fastening machine comprising a frame, drilling assembly carried by the frame for drilling a fastener receiving hole in a workpiece and an arrangement carried by the frame for installing a fastener in the hole drilled in the workpiece, the drilling assembly comprising a drill spindle having an axis of rotation and a drilling tool at one end thereof and rotatably mounted in a ram movable on the machine frame toward and away from the workpiece, the improvement of a brushless synchronous a.c. servomotor including an output shaft having an axis of rotation and an arrangement for connecting the motor directly to the drill spindle with the axis of rotation of the motor shaft coincident with the axis of rotation of the drill spindle. There is also provided a fan on the frame and positioned to direct cooling air onto the motor.
Abstract: A storage rack for magnetic tape cartridges includes a plurality of shelves for supporting a plurality of cartridges in an upstanding side-by-side relationship and side supports for supporting the shelves in a spaced superposed relationship. Each shelf includes a planar platform for cartridges operatively positioned thereon and a planar back for the shelf. The planar platform defines a substantially linear forward edges opposite the back of the shelf which underlies a tape cartridge operatively positioned upon the shelf and supports the tape cartridge so that the overlying cartridge edge defines an angle within the range of about ten to twenty degrees with the horizontal.
Abstract: A fastener for wood comprising a metallic lamella having a length which is substantially parallel to the direction the fastener is driven into the wood, and having a protuberance on the back of the lamella which protuberance extends, at the most, across the whole width of the lamella and in a direction substantially perpendicular to the length of the lamella. A plurality of such fasteners arranged in the magazine of a distribution device position themselves correctly owing to the protuberances.
Abstract: A placard holder having a rigid base sheet utilizes a notched, rigid transparent panel and frame members for spacing the panel from the base sheet. The frame members, base sheet and transparent panel collectively provide a receptacle for holding a plurality of placards, and a notch defined in the panel facilitates the removal of placards from the holder or the interchanging of placards within the holder. A removable closure is hingedly connected to the transparent panel to provide a cover for the placard receptacle and includes a notch-receiving portion adapted to interfit with and substantially close the panel notch.
Abstract: An electromagnetic valve comprising a housing having fluid containing region and first and second ports in communication therewith, an electromagnet carried by the housing located external to the region, and a thin fluid impermeable diaphragm barrier hermetically isolating the electromagnet from the region. An armature in the housing is movable within a body of magnetically permeable material and has a pole portion located for magnetic attraction by the electromagnet and has a valve portion located for opening and closing one of the ports to place the ports in fluid communication through the region in one state of the valve and to block fluid communication between the ports in another state of the valve. The armature is moved from a rest position through a forward stroke when attracted by the electromagnet and is returned by a biasing spring to the rest position.
Abstract: A cutting machine comprising a housing having a base, a motor carried by the housing, a knife blade having a cutting edge and carried by the housing for reciprocal motion generally normal to the base in response to operation of the motor, a presser foot movably carried by the housing located in spaced relation to the blade cutting edge and movable toward and away from the base, and characterized by an elongated guard connected to the presser foot and located closely adjacent the blade edge and guided supported in the housing for movement along the blade edge in response to movement of the presser foot toward and away from the base. There is included an arrangement for releasing the presser foot when the motor is turned off allowing the pressure foot to rest on or near the base and maintain the guard in place along the blade edge when the motor is off.
Abstract: Stabilizing apparatus for a dump vehicle including a dump box pivotally movable about a frame between lowered and elevated conditions utilizes two leg members each having two end sections which are movable relative to one another in a telescoping fashion and hydraulic cylinders for telescopically moving the end sections of each leg members relative to one another. One end of each leg member is connectable to the dump box adjacent a corresponding side thereof for pivotal movement relative thereto between a first condition at which the leg member is positioned generally alongside the box for storage and a second condition at which the leg member extends angularly downwardly from the box for engagement of the other end section of the leg member with the ground.
Abstract: A dasphpot damper for acting between two objects subject to move toward and away from one another including a housing including an elongated cavity, a piston mounted within the housing cavity for reciprocating movement therealong and dividing the cavity into two variable-volume, hydraulic fluid chambers, and a network of passages permitting hydraulic fluid to flow between the two variable-volume chambers as the housing and piston move relative to one another in response to relative movements between the two objects utilizes unitary flow control cartridge mounted within the housing and defining a passageway through which hydraulic fluid is forced to flow when passing between the two variable-volume chambers. The flow control cartridge also includes a check valve device associated with the passageway for controllably restricting the flow of hydraulic fluid in one direction through the passageway and for permitting substantially unrestricted flow of hydraulic fluid in the other direction through the passageway.
Abstract: A composition of refractory cement includes about 65 percent by weight of refractory clay, about 15 percent by weight of ball clay and about 20 percent by weight of calcium aluminate cement to yield a product composition which is air-setting, acid resistant, and non water soluble. The composition ingredients are so sized to provide the product composition with a screen analysis of about 2 percent to 6 percent +40 mesh, about 20 percent to 35 percent +70 mesh, 10 percent to 25 percent +100 mesh and 40 percent to 60 percent -100 mesh.
