  • Patent number: 4616351
Abstract: Ultrasonic pest control apparatus comprising an elongated housing having opposite ends, a sound generator carried by the housing adjacent one end thereof and including at least one transducer for providing output sound waves when driven by an electrical signal, the sound waves being directed outwardly from the end of the housing and having a frequency normally inaudible to humans and intolerable by pests such as rodents and the like, and an electrical connector element at the other end of the housing adapted to be inserted manually into a standard electrical outlet receptacle commonly found in buildings and the like. The connector can be of the prong type or of the threaded type commonly found on the base of electric lamps. The transducer preferably is driven in a manner such that the generated sound waves are a composite output in the form of a random pattern of harmonies.

  • Patent number: 4606367
Abstract: An apparatus and associated method for relieving the pressure within a high pressure tank having an opening plugged by a broken safety valve of a special type utilizes a mechanism acting between the annular flange of the tank normally provided for the securement of a valve protector cap and the valve to permit pressurized contents confined within the tank to escape through the valve. The special valve includes a flow passage in axial alignment with the tank opening in which the valve portion is received and defines a ball chamber in which a spherical ball is seated. The apparatus of the invention includes a stem which is movable through the valve portion flow passage for engagement with the spherical ball to thereby unseat the ball and open the valve flow passage. By unseating the ball, contents of the tank pass out of the valve flow passage and are directed either into the atmosphere or another vessel for reclaiming purposes.

  • Patent number: 4603752
Abstract: A speed and direction control apparatus for a skid steer vehicle of the type having right and left driven wheels which are caused to be operated by variable displacement pumps. The control apparatus is similar to that found in normal highway vehicles in that a steering wheel is provided for controlling the turning of the vehicle and a foot pedal is provided for controlling the speed of the vehicle. One end of each of a pair of push-pull control cable assemblies is used to move the control arms of the variable displacement pumps and the other end of the pair of control cables are in turn secured to a rotatable element which is in turn supported for rotation on a portion of a rotatable steering column. The rotatable element can be rotated by the steering wheel to cause one control arm to be displaced with respect to the other control arm to effect turning of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4601962
Abstract: An anode assembly for a lithium-halogen cell including halogen-containing cathode material, i.e. depolarizer, such as an iodine-organic complex wherein the anode comprises an electrical conductor sandwiched between a pair of lithium plates defining substantially oppositely directed lithium surfaces terminating in a peripheral lithium edge and characterized by a major portion of the length of the peripheral edge being exposed to the cathode material. This greatly increases the available internal volume of the cell for cathode material which, in turn, increases the theoretical ampere-hour rating of the cell. At least one and preferably both oppositely directed lithium surfaces have formations such as ribs or the equivalent which increases the surface area thereof, and the formations terminate a short distance from the edge to form a marginal type, peripheral border and highly effective seal therearound.

  • Patent number: 4600341
Abstract: A pocket reducing insert for the pocket of an A.N.S.I. toolholder designed to nestingly accept a first cutting insert of a predetermined size and shape is in the form of a notched body of such size and shape to be nestingly received within the toolholder pocket, and the notch of the body is of such size and shape to nestingly accept a second cutting insert of smaller size or smaller size and different shape than the one which the A.N.S.I. toolholder is designed to accept. When the reducing insert is placed within the toolholder pocket, the toolholder pocket can nestingly accept the second cutting insert. An associated clamping assembly when used in combination with the reducing insert, for holding the second cutting insert within the toolholder pocket is particularly well-suited for use during machining operations during which machining pressure tends to pull the second cutting insert out of the pocket.

  • Patent number: 4593633
Abstract: Sewing operations are automated, at least partially, using a controllable sewing machine. In an intial recording phase for the sewing operation to be effected, there are put into memory the instantaneous values of three sensed parameters, i.e. the elapsed time of sewing, the position of a sewing speed control element and the length of the sewing, at each time the position of the speed control element changes under the action of the operator. Then, in a reproduction phase, the time is detected in continuous fashion, as is the distance sewn, and the position of the speed control element is changed at each moment for which the time detected is equal to a time recorded, or for which the length sewn is equal to the length recorded.
