Abstract: The capacity of a reverse link is improved by realizing a scheme to effect sharp changes in pilot channel transmit power (PCTP) and data channel to pilot power ratio (DCPR), coordinated with the start of the data channel transmission. The change in pilot power and data channel to pilot power ratio is also applicable to mobiles that use multiple pilots and/or multiple antennas at the transmitter and/or receiver.
Abstract: Multiple carriers are used to provide access to a wireless communication system. A first carrier transmits synchronization messages in accordance with the IS-95B standard (communication protocol revision 5). The synchronization message directs mobiles attempting to access the network to a paging channel on the first carrier. The paging channel enables mobiles conforming to a standard of IS-2000 revision 0 or older to access the wireless network. The paging channel also includes an extended global service redirection message (EGSRM) that instructs mobiles conforming to the IS-2000 revision A standard (communication protocol revision 7) to use a synchronization channel on a second carrier for reception of an IS-2000 revision A synchronization message. The IS-2000 revision A (communication protocol revision 7) synchronization message instructs the mobile to access the wireless communication network using a BCCH and/or FCCCH on the second carrier, or using a BCCH and/or FCCCH on the first carrier.

Abstract: A selective Global Service Redirection mechanism allows a service provider, for instance, to instruct only CDMA2000 (MOB_P_REV=6) mobiles to access specific carrier that is deployed to support advanced services known as 3G services. In another embodiment, data-only CDMA2000 mobiles are instructed to access specific carrier that is optimized to support high speed data services. Additionally, data-only CDMA2000 mobiles may be instructed to access a specific carrier that is optimized to support high speed data services. Pre-CDMA2000 mobiles (MOB_P_REV<6) are redirected by a conventional Global Service Redirection Message to another carrier, while CDMA2000 mobiles (MOB_P_REV=<6) are instructed to ignore this redirection.

Abstract: A method for making a lateral bipolar transistor using SOI technology. A base mask is formed on the surface of a silicon island and its sidewalls coated with a layer of silicon dioxide. After local oxidization of the silicon island, emitter and collector regions are implanted using the base mask and the silicon dioxide deposited on the sidewalls of the base mask as a mask. The base mask is then removed and a shallow base contact region is implanted in the base region previously shielded by the base mask. The remaining silicon dioxide deposited on the sidewalls of the base mask form vertical spacers which are used as a self-aligned mask for forming silicide contacts on the emitter, collector and base contact regions. These remaining silicon dioxide vertical spacers physically separate emitter-base and base collector junctions from the highly doped base contact area and electrically isolate the silicide contacts.
