  • Patent number: 5785480
Abstract: An adjustable nut is disclosed which has a body with an axial passageway therethrough for receiving a threaded shaft and a transverse bore communicating with the axial bore. A button is disposed in the transverse bore which has an elongate aperture passing radially therethrough. The elongate aperture intersects with the axial passageway such that said threaded shaft can pass through the elongate aperture. The button is urged out of the transverse bore by the biasing means but is secured within the transverse bore by the restrictive means to form an operative position and an inoperative position. The operative position mechanically interconnects mating threads on a distal end of the elongate aperture with threads on the threaded shaft. The adjustable nut can then be rotated to loosen or tighten the adjustable nut. The inoperative position is assumed when the button is depressed which moves the mating threads in the elongate aperture away from the threads on said threaded shaft.

  • Patent number: 5778106
Abstract: A method and apparatus for processing an image captured by an image acquisition device having a two-dimensional matrix of non-square pixels with a first aspect ratio. In one aspect of the method, the image is sampled in a color sub-sampled manner such that fewer than three color measurements are known for each pixel location. A processed image is then constructed by processing the fewer than three color measurements known for each pixel to generate one or more interpolated color values at each of the pixel locations. A processed image is then created for rendering on an output device having a square raster with a second aspect ratio which differs from the first aspect ratio. The processed image is processed such that an aspect ratio of the original image captured on the non-square pixels is maintained on the output device.

  • Patent number: 5676019
Abstract: A nut assembly intended for use with a lead screw in precision movement devices for compensating for harmonic error from the lead screw by utilizing one or more partial nuts which are opposed along an axis of the lead screw such that the partial nuts ride the lead screw independently. An averaging apparatus is used to hold the partial nuts such that as the partial nuts follow the harmonic error, the error is averaged through the averaging apparatus to compensate for the harmonic error allowing the resulting motion of the nuts to be substantially linear.

  • Patent number: 5652663
Abstract: The invention provides an apparatus for enhancing full color images and may be used within a variety of computer peripheral devices such as a scanner which scans images initially recorded on a photographic medium, for example. The invention takes image data and applies a programmable set of parameters to the image data which govern color saturation and sharpness, inter alia. The image is then passed to a computer where a user may alter the parameter. The parameters are passed back to be reprocessed within the scanner and an updated image is then sent back the computer in real time.

  • Patent number: 5633780
Abstract: An electrostatic discharge protection device is disclosed which automatically connects selected connector pins of a semiconductor chip package ("SCP") or connectors on printed circuit boards such that the connector pins are held at a common voltage until insertion of the SCP into a receptor or until insertion of a cable into the connector which overcomes an internal resilient bias of the electrostatic discharge protection device causing the common connection to be removed. Removal of the SCP from the receptor or the cable from its connector removes the force which overcomes the bias, thereby reestablishing the common electrical connection thus automatically moving the electrostatic discharge protection device between inoperative and operative positions.

  • Patent number: 5621492
Abstract: A distributed photographic system for taking self portraits is disclosed which reduces cost as compared to conventional photographic booths by separating image acquisition and image rendering functions. Control over the system is also increased by allowing a remote operator in a commercial setting to remotely govern the image acquisition system. In the preferred embodiment, the image acquisition system utilizes a beam splitter to allow image bearing light to pass through into a video camera which then projects images through a liquid crystal display and back onto the beam splitter which reflects outwardly to the user. The user then can choose which video image the user wishes to have placed onto a hard-copy medium by indicating through a user panel that an image is acceptable. Upon doing so, the image is sent electronically to a remote printing station which is controlled by an operator.

  • Patent number: 5592346
Abstract: An adaptive predictor for use with a control system to predict error contributions due to harmonic distortion in a error signal such that the prediction signal may be fed back and added to the error signal to compensate for the harmonic distortion. The adaptive predictor takes the error signal representative of misposition error and performs a discrete Fourier analysis to determine contributions due to individual harmonics. It then adjusts the results and tallies a running total thereby adapting to a mechanical system in which it is contained. The running total is combined with a carrier signal which is clocked to produce a predictive signal representing harmonic distortion at a given time. The predictive signal is then added back with the original error signal to produce a harmonic distortion compensated signal.

  • Patent number: 5574579
Abstract: 055745798Heads-up and heads-down displays employing holographic stereograms are provided. The stereograms can be oriented perpendicular to the user's line of sight (the "90.degree. case") or at angle to the line of sight (the "non-90.degree. case"). The stereograms are produced using a three-step process in which a series of two-dimensional perspective views are prepared, a H.sub.1 hologram is prepared from the two-dimensional perspective views, and a H.sub.2 hologram is prepared from the H.sub.1 hologram. For the non-90.degree. case, the two-dimensional perspective views are oriented at an angle relative to the plane of the H.sub.1 hologram during the preparation of that hologram. Similarly, during the preparation of the H.sub.2 hologram for this case, the H.sub.2 hologram is oriented at an angle relative to the H.sub.1 hologram. In this way, the viewing slits generated by the holographic stereogram are located in the vicinity of the user's eyes for the non-90.degree. case as is desired.
