  • Patent number: 4195703
Abstract: This invention relates to an universally steerable, ridable vehicle which may be designed for a variety of purposes, ranging from a child's toy to an automotive vehicle operable on a highway. The steering capability of a conventional, wheel supported automotive vehicle and the unavoidable limitations of that capability are well understood. The present vehicle, from a standing start, can be propelled in any chosen direction, forward, rearward, directly sidewise, or in any chosen oblique direction forward or backward relative to the direction in which the vehicle is pointed. It can also be steered like a conventional vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4183321
Abstract: In a finger slotting and glue applying machine, random length studs, free from blemishes and having precisely squared ends, are advanced edgewise on a conveyor with their right ends (as viewed from the delivery end of the conveyor) aligned, past a set of slotting saws for uniformly slotting the right ends of the studs. The studs are then shifted to align their left ends and advanced past a second set of slotting saws for uniformly slotting the left ends of the studs. The studs then have adhesive applied in the left end slots and are then discharged at the introductory end of a machine which advances the studs lengthwise, interfitting and adhesively uniting successive studs end to end for producing blemish-free composite studs or beams which may be cut into any chosen length or lengths. The present invention has to do with limiting the regulating, the feeding and application of the glue to the slotted left ends of the studs and with the clean recovery and return to the source of surplus glue.

  • Patent number: 4169454
Abstract: A bow conventionally includes a stabilizer which extends forward from the body of the bow and is weighted at its forward end. The head of an arrow shot by such a bow not infrequently becomes lodged in a tree trunk, board or other tough object. In accordance with the present invention, the stabilizer is made to include a head and a stem, such that the stabilizer head can be unscrewed from the stabilizer stem and screwed onto the lodged arrow head, and the stem of the stabilizer can then be unscrewed from the bow and passed through an opening in the stabilizer head for rocking and/or twisting the arrow head free of the tree or other object in which it is lodged.

  • Patent number: 4156949
Abstract: A pipe cleaning machine is provided in which rotary wire brushes remove rust and/or dirt from the exterior of pipes of various diameters. Feeding means is provided for driving the pipe lengthwise while rotating it. Provision is made of optionally usable means for reversing the direction of travel of the pipe if it is seen to require further cleaning after one or more passes. It is a feature that through a simple adjustment the number of turns per foot of pipe advancement may be varied, a feature of importance in relation to different diameters of pipe and to the observed need for increasing or diminishing the intensity of total treatment. The capacity for reversal of travel is important for continuing treatment of the pipe until the observed degree of cleanliness is acceptable. Reversal of travel can also simplify the handling of the pipe for a single attendant because the cleaned pipe can be withdrawn at the same end of the machine from which the rusted or dirty pipe is fed in.

  • Patent number: 4118872
Abstract: In finger jointing machines work pieces of random lengths are pushed through the machine past end slotting saws, the strips being desirably disposed precisely at right angles to the direction in which they are advanced. It is not unusual for the work pushing members to get out of adjustment. In accordance with the present invention a testing device is provided for testing the transverse alignment of pusher members and guiding the machine operator in making corrective adjustments.

  • Patent number: 4100913
Abstract: A fireplace heating system is provided which may be arranged to heat with unique efficiency the room in which the fireplace is situated and/or any desired number of additional rooms within the capacity of the system. The system is characterized by the fact that air is collected from the top of the room or rooms being heated where, though still warm, it has, because of its location, lost its capability of serving the occupants. The air so collected is transmitted downward through a heat exchanger in which the hot products of combustion from the fireplace are traveling upward. The air thus reheated is distributed to the involved rooms either at floor level, or from beneath the floor. It is a significant feature that the recycled, breathable air, while being driven downward through the heat exchanger, is kept separated from the products of combustion.

  • Patent number: 4092795
Abstract: A fishing pole mount is provided which includes a pole holding socket and which is adapted either to be planted firmly in the earth or affixed to the side of a boat, and which includes means responsive to a tug on the line to sound a signal, and to provide a regulated tension suitable to set the hook adequately but without excessive force. Provision is made for adjusting the tone of the signal so that two or more fishermen, located in proximity to one another, can each recognize by the tone of the signal which one of them has a bite. It is not desirable when a fish has been caught and reeled in to throw the fishing equipment onto the ground or into a dirty boat hold. A second pole socket is therefore provided on the mount having no signal means associated with it, for holding the pole temporarily while the fish is being removed from the hook and the hook is being re-baited.
