Abstract: Borated acyl sarcosines have been found to be effective multifunctional additives when added to lubricating oils or greases therefrom. They can be used as antirust, antifriction or anticorrosion agents.
Abstract: The invention provides phenol-hindered phenol borates as lubricant and fuel additives. They provide exceptional antioxidant properties in these media.
Abstract: It has been found that products made by reacting a polyalkenylsuccinic compound with an aromatic secondary amine or hindered phenol containing a hydroxyalkyl group, followed by reaction with an alkanolamine or an aminomethane, give a novel additive having utility as a dispersant and/or an anticorrosion agent when placed in a lubricant.
Abstract: Compounds made by reacting a vicinal diol with a hydrocarbyl phosphite and then borating the resulting product have been found to be effective friction reducers when added to lubricants or fuels. This is true in any use of lubricants, but is especially true when they are used in internal combustion engines. In the latter case, the fuels used, when they contain the additive, aid in the reduction of friction in the engine.
Abstract: Borates of certain etherdiamines are provided. These compounds give excellent results when tested in lubricants as friction reducing antioxidants or antirust additives.
Abstract: Amide carboxylate salts of certain diamines are provided. These compounds give excellent results when tested in lubricants as, among other things, friction reducing additives.
Abstract: New reaction products obtained by reacting (1) a hindered phenol, (2) a borating agent and (3) a hydrocarbyl carboxylate are described. The preferred reaction sequence involves, first, the reaction of (1) and (2), then reacting the product obtained with the hydrocarbyl carboxylate. Also described are lubricant or liquid fuel compositions containing a major proportion of lubricant or fuel and an antifriction, anticorrosion or fuel reducing amount of the reaction product of this invention and a method of reducing fuel consumption in an internal combustion engine by lubricating the engine therewith.
Abstract: The invention provides a compound effective as a friction reducer in lubricants and fuels, thus reducing the consumption of fuel. The compound is a boron derivative of a mixture of alkoxylated alcohols and hydroxysulfides.
Abstract: Lubricant and liquid fuel compositions containing a product made by reacting a borating agent with an ammoninated hydrocarbyl epoxide are provided. The invention also provides the product per se and a method of reducing fuel consumption in an internal combustion engine using fuel and lubricant compositions containing same.
Abstract: New compounds made by first reacting an amine, an aldehyde and a mercaptan and reacting the product thus obtained with a boron compound are provided. The invention also provides lubricant and liquid fuel compositions containing such compounds.
Abstract: Lubricant and liquid fuel compositions contain a friction reducing or antioxidant additive. The additive is a borated mixture of (1) a long chain alcohol or an alkoxylated member thereof and (2) a hydroxyalkyl sulfide.
Abstract: New reaction products obtained by reacting (1) a hindered phenol, (2) a boron compound and (3) an amine together are described. Preferred reaction sequences are:(a) (2)+(1), then this product with (3); and(b) (2)+(3), then this product with (1).Also described are lubricant compositions containing the reaction products and a method of reducing fuel consumption in an internal combustion engine by lubricating the engine with a lubricant containing the reaction product.
Abstract: Nitrogen- and boron-containing products, and their use in lubricants, are disclosed. Particularly, selected diamines are reacted with boron compounds and sarcosines to give partially borated, partial sarcosine salts of the diamine.
Abstract: The cloud point of a hydrodewaxed base stock is reduced by direct sulfurization of the base stock, or by direct sulfurization of the base stock in the presence of a magnesium, calcium or barium compound.
Abstract: Hydrocarbyl ammonium hydrocarbyl carboxylate internal salts and their metal-containing derivatives are made by reacting certain amines with certain organic acids to obtain the former and reacting that product with a metal oxide or salt to obtain the latter. These are used in lubricants and liquid fuel compositions for a variety of purposes, including reduced friction.
Abstract: Lubricant and fuel compositions having unique fuel saving properties are obtained by adding to the lubricant or fuel a product made by reacting a boron compound with a mixture of vicinal diols and long chain alcohols or hydroxyl-containing carboxylate esters.

Abstract: Lubricant and liquid fuel compositions contain a friction reducing or antioxidant additive. The additive is a borated trihydroxy hydrocarbyl sulfide.
Abstract: The invention herein is concerned with new compositions of matter made by (1) reacting phosphorus pentasulfide with an amide and (2) reacting this product with a metal-containing compound, and lubricant compositions containing same. The compositions reduce friction to a greater extent than lubricants containing no additive and, when placed in lubricating oils and used in an internal combustion engine, fuel consumption is reduced.
