  • Patent number: 4534310
Abstract: The apparatus and method for processing steel strand wire cable and the like for use in prestressed concrete is disclosed in which the outer surface of the cable produced has a substantial pure rust or hydrated oxide coating thereon enabling the cable to be utilized immediately in concrete configurations to thereby produce substantially higher flexural strengths in prestressed concrete than heretofore in the prior art. The apparatus and method specifically encompasses the use of ultransonic cleaning equipment which causes cavitation cleaning effects in the liquid medium through which the cable passes during its cleaning process. In effect, the ultrasonic cleaning "catalyzes" the chemical redox reactions by removing all surface inhibitors and reducing reactant diffusion barriers thus accelerating surface wetting of the strand cable with H.sub.2 O and O.sub.2, such that the rusting chemical reactions can occur spontaneously. The dominant bond developed between the steel and concrete is chemical.

  • Patent number: 4491278
Abstract: An improved comminutor is provided having a one piece stationary hemispherical cage member and a one piece spherical-like rotatable cutting and shredding member adapted for use with the hemispherical cage in comminuting action with the inline flow of sewage. The hemispherical cage structure is formed by a plurality of spaced apart arcuate elements disposed about an axis of said hemispherical cage and are interconnected at their diametrical ends by a circular comb-like section configuration thereof having a plurality of radially inward projecting teeth. Each arcuate element has one of said teeth disposed at the terminal ends thereof, in alignment therewith and forming an integral part thereof.

  • Patent number: 4427017
Abstract: An improved portable hair braider is provided which makes use of a plurality of hair grabbing members that extend transversely to the path of movement of the device over the top of the head. The invention hereof relates to the device described and claimed in U.S. Pat. No. 4,038,996, issued Aug. 2, 1977, to Eronini et al. The improvement hereof is specifically directed to a mechanical means for driving the ends of a plurality of grabbing members along a path in a plane perpendicular to their axes, wherein the path is defined as that of a figure eight. The hair grabbing members are caused to traverse or pass through a cross-over region formed by the intersection between two circular sections of the body of the device which is in the form of the figure eight.

  • Patent number: 4280307
Abstract: An improved construction system disclosed herein comprises a plurality of pre-engineered panalized or sectionalized building elements and units designed and prefabricated to include all of the basic services such as wiring, plumbing, ductwork, and the like, and materials in the form of framing structures with finished walls, flooring and ceilings adopted for ease of transport, assembly, disassembly and reassembly in accordance with flexible erection and construction processes. Each prefabricated panel or unit includes as an integral part of its structure a mechanical interconnection and interlocking means for fixedly joining each with one or more other panels along one or more preselected edge regions thereof. The interconnecting and interlocking mechanisms include a combination of architecturally sound arrangements of one or more connector plates, supporting and positioning blocks, girders or bearing plates and the like.

  • Patent number: 4186888
Abstract: An improved comminutor for channels or inline conduits that carry the flow of liquid sewage which includes a semi-cylindrical concave cage formed of a plurality of axially spaced apart sections of arcuate rings or bars connected together arcuately and axially. A plurality of comb-like members are mounted at spaced intervals along the inner surface contour of the semi-cylindrical concave cage member with the teeth of its comb-like members in axial alignment with corresponding sections of the rings or bars which form the cage member. A plurality of rotatable cutting and shredding arms are mounted axially along a helical spiral like path in spaced relationship with the cage member with a plurality of comb-like members for interengaging comminuting action with radially extending portions of their respective teeth.
