Abstract: The invention is a method, process and computer program to automatically create a customized three-dimensional artificial nail object by welding based upon an actual/existing digitized nail surface. This particular invention generates the overall desired three-dimensional nail object by taking the digitized nail surface and welding it to a preexisting desired nail tip thus creating a preferred artificial nail object. The application of the invention results in a wide scope of possible implementations including a use for creating artificial fingernails and artificial toenails.
Abstract: A support member for supporting a roof of a subsurface space. The support member may include a base portion for defining a surface area to contact a ceiling of the subsurface space. One or more sockets may extend from the base for defining openings for receiving roof bolts therethrough. Accordingly, the support member may be configured to function as a washer for the roof bolts to support the roof material above the ceiling. The sockets may include covers for preventing the roof bolts from extending out of the sockets. The sockets may be oriented at angles with respect to the base such that when roof bolts are placed in the sockets, the roof bolts may extend at angles with respect to each other in a splayed configuration.
Abstract: A system and method for teaching music both visually and tactilely. In one embodiment, the invention comprises blocks shaped to resemble musical symbols used to compose music, including time signatures, notes, rests, and dots. Each of the blocks are relative in thickness such that for a given time signature, the correct rhythm for a given measure can be determined by laying one or more of the notes, rests and dots one over the other to see if their combined thickness is equal to that of a preselected time signature. The thickness of the block shaped to resemble the time signature is such that it only allows the correct number of blocks shaped as notes, rests or dots to be of equal thickness to thereby determine the correct rhythm. In addition, the correct rhythm can be determined by simply reading the shaped blocks as one would read music.

Abstract: Methods for enhancing bioremediation of ground water contaminated with nonaqueous halogenated solvents are disclosed. An illustrative method includes adding an electron donor for microbe-mediated anaerobic reductive dehalogenation of the halogenated solvents, which electron donor enhances mass transfer of the halogenated solvents from residual source areas into the aqueous phase of the ground water. Illustrative electron donors include C2-C4 carboxylic acids and hydroxy acids, salts thereof, esters of C2-C4 carboxylic acids and hydroxy acids, and mixtures thereof, of which lactic acid, salts of lactic acid—such as sodium lactate, lactate esters, and mixtures thereof are particularly illustrative. The microbes are either indigenous to the ground water, or such microbes can be added to the ground water in addition to the electron donor.
Abstract: A tubular-shaped, circulation-enhancing pillow or cushion device worn on any part of upper or lower extremities as a rest and/or sleep aid. The device may include a semi ridged, yet flexible and resilient tubular core, a soft fabric elastic liner and an outer cushioned tension wrap. The device may allow one to instinctively change sleeping postures, while remaining asleep or while resting, whether laying in a supine, prone, side or upright position. The device may isolate the part of an extremity that would otherwise have a tendency to become numb, achy or “fall asleep” due to pressure exerted from above by one's resting head, torso, knee, ankle, or other overlying body part, while at the same time act as a pillow or cushion to the overlying body part at rest.
Abstract: A portable and wall mountable apparatus comprising a flexible case having one or more internal compartments for removably receiving stiffeners to thereby form a pair of panels. The panels are pivotally joined and fold shut against each other to form a portable carrier for articles such as architectural plans and the like. Handles are attached to the flexible case to facilitate transport. A plurality of tabs with grommets are attached to the flexible case to allow the panels to be removably mounted to a wall such that one of the panels may be used as a desktop or workspace. One or more restraining devices suspend the panel being used as a desktop or workplace in a horizontal position when the case is mounted to a wall. The flexible case may also be conveniently stored by removing the stiffeners when not in use and rolling up the shell into a compact shape.
Abstract: An irrigation control system and method for controlling irrigation based on weather data. Weather data such as wind, temperature, solar radiation, humidity, and rainfall, may be collected at one or more weather stations for a region. The weather data may be compiled on a computer and transmitted to a paging broadcast service. The weather data may then be transmitted by the paging broadcast service to controller interfaces associated with irrigation systems throughout the region. The controller interfaces may adjust irrigation controllers associated with the irrigation systems based on the weather data such that the proper amount of water is applied. This allows the water to be used more efficiently and the health of the landscape to be improved.

Abstract: A boat canopy mounting system having a front mounting assembly and a rear mounting assembly. The mounting system is able to secure boat canopies and other tops or sunshades to boat towers. The mounting system is further able to be employed on boat towers of varying configurations without any modifications. To accomplish this feature, the rear mounting assembly may include a plurality of clamp mounting locations such that an installer may selectively choose the clamp mounting locations to accommodate boat towers of varying design.
Abstract: This invention is a time-out chair that allows a child's caregiver to leave the room where the child is taking the time-out, and yet still ensure that the child is staying in the time-out. The chair contains a sensor, such as an infrared sensor or force sensor, which detects when the child has left. The sensor communicates to a microcomputer, which emits an audio and/or visual signal to the child. The audio signal can be selected from several built in signals, recorded or inputted by the caregiver. The microcomputer also may transmit a signal to a remote unit that the caregiver can carry out of the room so that the caregiver is advised that the child has left the time-out. The microcomputer also keeps track of the time remaining in the time-out, and advises the child and/or the caregiver when the time-out is over.
Abstract: A disposable food delivery device is disclosed. The device includes a food utensil coupled to a food container. The food container can be pre-charged with food, such as a dehydrated food, such that a liquid can be added to the dehydrated food to result in a ready-to-eat food at any selected time. The food container illustratively can include a port for receiving the liquid. The food container also illustratively can include a security seal for assuring that the food has not been contaminated prior to consumption. Another illustrative embodiment of the invention includes a valve for retaining liquid in the food container prior to consumption of the food.
Abstract: Drug delivery compositions for specific delivery of a drug to a tumor are described. These compositions include a core for sequestering the drug and a shell to which a ligand is attached for delivery of a drug to target cells. Since normal cells may also be targeted by the ligand, the compositions embed the ligand in the shell until the localized conditions surrounding the tumor cause the ligand to be displayed on the surface of the shell. One composition exhibits shrinkage of the shell at tumor pH, whereas another composition exhibits extension of the ligand at tumor pH. Still another composition causes the ligand to be exhibited at an elevated temperature.
Abstract: A prosthetic femoral implant for use in a hip joint, as a ball and socket type joint, is disclosed. The implant includes a modular neck having a variety of adjustable positions to adjust the lateral offset and version angle of the femoral implant in relation to the femur. The implant further includes a broad, full collar for providing a compression force increasing the interdigitation between the interface of the bone, implant and cement. The implant also includes a stem having a depression having a roughened porous surface for resisting the increased torsional loads placed on the implant due to the increased lateral offset and version angle. The stem further comprises three distinct zones, each zone having its own roughened surface creating a tripartite differential porosity.

Abstract: A form is disclosed for cooking items, such as pancakes, in a specified shape. The form may include a sidewall defining the specified shape. One or more handles may be attached to the sidewall to facilitate handling of the form. The handles may be configured to be folded and to reduce the amount of heat conducted through them. The form may be constructed by cutting an aluminum alloy material into strips. Holes may be formed in the ends of the strips and the strips may be heated for a specified time to soften them for being formed in the desired shape. The ends of the strips may be joined together using fasteners through the holes. Forms constructed in this manner may reduce the sticking of material to the forms, and the forms may be durable to last for repeated use over a long period of time.
Abstract: A device for supporting blankets on a bed, for creating a space to provide room for a person's feet to be unconstricted and unbothered by the weight of the blankets. The device may include a base member for positioning between a mattress and box springs in a conventional bed. A pair of side supports may be joined to the base member on opposite sides of the bed. The side supports may include telescoping members that may be adjusted in length and locked in place in raised or lowered positions. A rail may be joined to the side supports to extend across the bed such that blankets on the bed may be draped over the rail. When the side supports are in a raised position, a space may be provided for the persons feet, whereas when the side supports are lowered, the device may be virtually undetectable under the blankets.
Abstract: A thermoacoustic cooling system for cooling an object such as a microelectronic chip. Heat produced by the object is transferred to a thermoacoustic engine. The thermoacoustic engine may include a resonator defining a chamber. A stack may be positioned in the chamber with one side of the stack adjacent to the heat source, and the opposite side of the stack adjacent to air in the chamber having a relatively cooler temperature. One or more orifices may be formed in the resonator such that the acoustic power generated by the thermoacoustic engine creates a synthetic jet to circulate air and move the air away from the object being cooled. Thus, the heat produced by the object is used to power the thermoacoustic engine to thereby remove heat from the object. The thermoacoustic engine may use no moving parts and may require no external power source other than the object being cooled.
