  • Patent number: 4550358
Abstract: A non-resettable water actuated circuit interrupting means for use with a portable electric appliance such as a hair dryer to provide protection for the user against injury in the event that the appliance is accidentally dropped in water or otherwise develops leakage current. Both sides of the line are fused and circuit means are provided which respond to leakage current in the appliance to provide separate circuits to blow out each of the fuses.

  • Patent number: 4547658
Abstract: A heating cable for use with an electric underblanket the cable being of the type in which a sensor wire is employed coextensive with a heater wire and separated by a layer of meltable insulating material so that overheat conditions are sensed by contact between the sensor wire and the heater. A number of helically wound coextensive wires cooperate with switching means to provide overheat temperature sensing at various wattage levels of heating.

  • Patent number: 4528101
Abstract: A process for the separation of a mineral acid from a common ion salt comprises a step of flowing a quantity of the mineral acid and salt in aqueous solution onto a strong base common ion form anion exchange resin bed whereon the mineral acid is retarded with respect to the salt. The salt is removed from the anion exchange resin. An interface cut of the mineral acid and the salt is recirculated from a bottom portion to a top portion of the anion exchange resin for further separation. A quantity of water is flowed through the anion exchange resin bed to elute the mineral acid therefrom. A portion of the elutant fluid is recycled to the top of the anion exchange resin bed.

  • Patent number: 4479047
Abstract: An electrically heated curler/styler includes an elongated handle having a rotatable elongated longitudinally split heating barrel projecting from the forward end thereof and defining a longitudinal space, open at its forward end, between the split portions of the barrel. A non-rotatable elongated flat blade-like clamp fixed to the forward end of the handle projects into the space between the split portions of the barrel, each of which is provided with a separate internal electric heater. The handle is provided with a button for manually rotating the split barrel from a first position wherein the longitudinal edge of the split barrel portions are spaced from the longitudinal edges of the clamp so that strands of hair can be inserted therebetween and a second position wherein the inserted hair strands are clamped between the longitudinal edges of the clamp and the split barrel portions for curling and/or styling.

  • Patent number: 4472622
Abstract: In an apparatus for thermal treatment of semiconductors in a treating gas, a treating tube has a heating portion, an extending portion, and a sealing portion, and convection-preventing plates are disposed within a treating tube, between one end of the heating portion and the sealing portion, so as to interrupt currents of the treating gas. A heating element is arranged so that the quantities of heat generated along the heating portion are largest near a gas-discharging end of the heating portion, intermediate near a gas-discharging end thereof, and smallest therebetween. The plates are mounted to the sealing portion so as to be inserted into the treating tube when the sealing portion is attached and so as to be withdrawn from the treating tube when the sealing portion is detached. The plates may be mounted integrally to the sealing portion.

  • Patent number: 4462811
Abstract: Apparatus for recovering hydrocarbons from an air-hydrocarbon vapor mixture of the type including a pair of alternatively used carbon bed adsorbers which are used to remove hydrocarbon vapors from the mixture and which are desorbed of hydrocarbons by subjecting the beds alternatively to vacuum regeneration using a vacuum pump the output of which is passed through an absorber using liquid gasoline as the absorbent liquid. The efficiency of the process is increased by interrupting the flow of the absorbent liquid during the initial period of the regeneration during which period the hydrocarbon vapor content of the mixture is low due to the fact that a substantial vacuum is required to separate the hydrocarbons from the carbon bed.

  • Patent number: 4462694
Abstract: An agitator assembly for a blender appliance including a diaphragm closure for the bottom opening in a blender vessel with a pair of spaced bearings supported on said diaphragm and a two-piece shaft assembly to interconnect the motor drive and the comminuting blades, the two-pieces being coupled by a spline connection which eliminates the need for accurate bearing alignment.
