  • Patent number: 8087795
Abstract: A flashlight assembly provides a convenient ability to turn the flashlight on and off, particularly for flashlights with a pressure activated power switch disposed on a rear portion of the flashlight. In one version, the flashlight assembly includes a flashlight holder that has a housing for receiving the flashlight's rear portion therein. The flashlight holder also has a handle connected to the housing that includes a support arm and an actuator arm. The support arm extends outwardly from the housing, while the actuator arm extends from the support arm back toward the housing, so as to overlie the power switch in spaced relation thereto. Disposed in this manner, the actuator arm is movable between depressed and released configurations. This movement allows the power switch to be selectively depressed and released, so as to turn the flashlight on and off. Other versions and methods are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 8041310
Abstract: Methods and circuits for synthesizing two or more signals phase-locked to a common reference frequency signal are disclosed. In one embodiment, a method comprises generating first and second output signals phase-locked to a reference clock signal, using first and second phase-locked loop circuits. In response to a detected frequency error in the first output signal, the first output signal is corrected by adjusting a frequency-division ratio in the first phase-locked loop circuit. The second output signal is corrected, separately from the correction to the first output signal, by adjusting a frequency-division ratio in the second phase-locked loop circuit, using an adjustment parameter calculated from the detected frequency error. In another exemplary method, first and second output signals are generated as described above, using first and second phase-locked loop circuits.

  • Patent number: 8005039
Abstract: A base station includes transmitter and associated processing circuits. The transmitter circuits are configured to transmit control information and data traffic to mobile terminals in repeating transmission intervals, each interval having defined control and data portions. The processing circuits are configured to dynamically determine that the control portion has insufficient resources for transmitting control information to one or more of the mobile terminals, and, in response, at least temporarily transmit control information in the data portion, rather than in the control portion, for a selected one or more of the mobile terminals. Correspondingly, a mobile terminal is configured to selectively search for and decode control information in the data portion of one or more transmission intervals, rather than in the control portion.

  • Patent number: 7983353
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for estimating code-reuse interference associated with a received multi-stream multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) signal are disclosed. An estimate for the data-to-pilot power ratio, ?D/P, may be obtained as a by-product of parametric estimation of impairment covariance associated with the received MIMO signal. In an exemplary method, a parametric impairment model is constructed for a received MIMO signal, the parametric model omitting code-reuse interference. Impairment covariance is measured, using, in one or more embodiments, received pilot symbol data. The parametric impairment model is fitted to the measured impairment covariance to obtain one or more scaling parameter values. A per-code energy value for a first data stream is then calculated from the one or more scaling parameter values.

  • Patent number: 7957485
Abstract: A model-based technique for estimating impairment covariance associated with a MIMO signal is disclosed. In an exemplary method, an impairment model is constructed for a received composite information signal comprising at least a first data stream transmitted from first and second antennas according to a first antenna weighting vector. The impairment model includes first and second model terms corresponding to the first and second antennas, respectively, but in several embodiments does not include a cross-antenna interference term. In another embodiment, an impairment model for a received MIMO signal is constructed by computing an impairment model term for each antenna and an additional term to account for preceding interference in a single-stream MIMO transmission scenario. The impairment terms are grouped so that only two associated scaling terms are unknown; values for the scaling terms are estimated by fitting the model to measured impairment covariance values.

  • Patent number: 7769080
Abstract: A method and apparatus for updating a square root matrix of a covariance matrix when sample sets are added to or removed from a received signal. When a sample set is added to the received signal, a processor augments the square root matrix to generate an updated square root matrix for future processing. When a sample set is no longer present in the received signal, the processor reduces the square root matrix to generate the updated square root matrix.

  • Patent number: 7456770
Abstract: The sensor network described herein uses a distributed sigma-delta converter, where each of a plurality of sensor nodes includes a sigma-delta modulator communicatively coupled to a remotely located sigma-delta processor in a control hub. Each sensor node generates a serial bit stream representative of a sensor output signal. The control hub includes a plurality of signal processors, each of which receive and digitally process the serial bit stream wirelessly transmitted by a corresponding sensor node. A controller in the control hub analyzes the digital output from each signal processor to determine one or more characteristics of the sensor network.

  • Patent number: 6541677
Abstract: A photochemical process for removing or minimizing the concentration of PCDD or PCDF compounds within an industrial gas stream. The process includes the gas phase of PCDD or PCDF compounds. Light within a particular spectral range is irradiated into the gas stream and is absorbed by the PCDD and PCDF compounds in the presence of a free radical hydrogen donor and this results in producing a lower chlorinated PCDD or PCDF compound form. In addition, the gas stream may be treated by removing particular matter therefrom and thereafter subjected to the above-described irradiation. Further, as another optional step, the gas stream may be irradiated with the specific purpose of targeting PCDD and PCDF precursor compounds. In this case, the irradiation is absorbed by the precursor compounds causing them to be chemically modified to different chemical compounds that do not participate in chemical reactions that result in the formation of PCDD and PCDF compounds.
