  • Patent number: 4496905
Abstract: A testing device for electrically analyzing electrical failures in high pressure sodium lighting fixtures is disclosed. The testing device is inserted in the lighting fixture after the sodium lamp has been removed and contains three indicator lights. The user of the device compares the condition of the indicator lights with a chart on the label of the device to determine the type of failure. The circuit analyzer device will give distinct indications for a defective lamp, a defective circuit starter board, and a defective ballast and capacitor, thereby allowing the user of the device to make any necessary changes in order to return the lighting fixture to service. A pair of rectifier diodes are installed in a reverse direction so that the pulse to the lamp must be at least 2500 volts in order to break over the diodes PRV rating and to light the appropriate indicating lamps.

  • Patent number: 4493176
Abstract: Mounting means for thermal insulation blocks or modules are described. The means comprises a rounded member adapted to fit into and cooperate with a C-shaped channel member attached to the block, with the rounded member itself being secured by a securing member to the wall of a furnace or like device. The mounting member allows the block to be easily secured to the wall even in locations of limited access.

  • Patent number: 4481746
Abstract: A mini-module for insertion into gaps between adjacent refractory fiber blanket modules lining a furnace. This mini-module is formed by folding the ends of a length of refractory fiber blanket toward each other, preferably forming a butt joint. This butt joint is positioned nearer the cold face of the module than the hot face thereby protecting the fiber ends exposed in the blanket ends from damage (e.g., shrinkage).

  • Patent number: 4472769
Abstract: An improved luminar having an adjustable lamp socket is disclosed. The adjustable socket comprises a generally cylindrical shaped socket shield which is fixed to the ballast housing of the luminar and is positioned around the lamp socket with the socket shield having formed therein a bracket channel and a guide channel. A generally U-shaped bracket is fixedly attached to the socket and has identification means formed thereon designating the relative position of the socket within the socket shield. The bracket also has formed thereon at least one protuberance for positioning in the guide channel means formed on the socket shield. The generally U-shaped bracket is positioned within the bracket channel means and is designed for movement within the channel in the desired position of the lamp in the reflector of the luminar. Locking means are provided for locking the U-shaped bracket within the socket shield at the desired pre-determined position.

  • Patent number: 4462068
Abstract: A new and improved luminaire combination is disclosed having a novel lens structure formed with a generally horizontal first lens surface and a generally vertical second lens surface with a generally horizontal flange formed on the second lens surface. The first lens surface is designed to refract a beam of light downwardly and outwardly in a predetermined pattern to form a beam having a cross section approximating the predetermined pattern at a predetermined distance below the lens. The second lens surface is designed to diffuse a beam of light outwardly in a direction perpendicular to the second lens surface.

  • Patent number: 4451875
Abstract: A single lighting fixture for mounting in front of a large billboard having a horizontal length approximately two times as long as its vertical length is disclosed. The lighting fixture comprises a lamp housing having a lamp positioned therein with the lamp being approximately horizontally positioned in the housing. A new and novel reflector is positioned on one side of the lamp is designed to reflect the light radiating from the lamp in such a manner that the bottom surface of the reflector is utilized to light up the approximate central portion of the billboard while the sides of the reflector are used to light triangular shaped side corners of the billboard. A refractor is positioned on the lamp housing to totally enclose the lamp with the refractor comprising in part three phase light control prism elements for stray light control.

  • Patent number: 4451762
Abstract: A control circuit and system is disclosed for providing emergency lighting from a single source of electrical power which itself is capable of providing input power alternately in the form of a sinusoidal power signal and a square wave power signal during interruption of the sinusoidal power signal. In the preferred form of the invention, a high intensity discharge lamp (HID) and an emergency lamp are provided in the same lighting fixture. A control circuit in the form of a power source detector first detects whether a sinusoidal power signal or a square wave signal is being supplied from a power station onto a pair of input lines. The power station automatically supplies the detector with input power in the form of a square wave rather than the normal sinusoidal power signal when an emergency condition exists such as normal power failure.

  • Patent number: 4449168
Abstract: A quick install device for mounting a luminaire on a flat surface such as a ceiling, a wall or the like, is disclosed. The device comprises in the preferred embodiment a mounting plate which is fixedly attached to an existing outlet box in the ceiling or wall and a luminaire plate which is fixedly attached to the luminaire. The luminaire plate and the mounting plate contain means for quickly attaching the two plates together with the attached plates serving as a splice chamber for containing the electrical splices used in electrically connecting the luminaire to an electrical circuit. The mounting plate structure and the luminaire plate structure may be reversed in actual use as desired by the purchaser of the device for different types of luminaire mountings.
