  • Patent number: 4247096
Abstract: A swimmer training apparatus for securement substantially within the side walls of a swimming tank. The apparatus comprises a collapsable support frame including at least one upstanding support arm having a lower side wall engaging element and an upper lateral restraint means for pivotal coupling with either the side wall lip, the outside of the deck, or the rope junction receptacle of the swimming tank side wall. Extending from the tank side wall towards the middle of the swimming tank, the support frame is attached to the swimmer by means of a flexible tether connected to a detachable, load distributing harness which is disposed about the waist of the swimmer. Such a portable swimmer training apparatus provides the swimmer with a commodius means of shock-dampened restraint confining the swimmer to a particular area of the pool while allowing him lateral maneuverability for the practice of various swimming strokes.

  • Patent number: 4230385
Abstract: A solderless electrical connector comprising a printed circuit board and electrical contact terminals mounted therein. A printed circuit board is fabricated to the construction stage wherein conductive circuitry interconnects plated through holes formed therethrough. The exposed circuitry and plated through holes are covered with a conformal coating of insulative material which seals the outer surfaces of the conductive materials from the environment and its effects. The insulative coating obviates the need for solder to protect the conductive materials as well as precludes the use of solder for electrical interconnection therewith. The plated through holes are constructed for press fit insertion of contact terminals in tight frictional engagement therein. The press fit insertion of a contact having an angular edge portion effectively penetrates the insulative coating by deforming it away from that portion of the plated through hole brought to bear against the contact.

  • Patent number: 4226496
Abstract: An edge connector for a circuit board includes a plurality of contact terminals each having a contact head, each contact head having a loop portion. The contact terminals are supported in a cavity in an insulative housing in such relation that the loop portion of the contact head bears against a shoulder portion of the housing. In one form of the connector, the contact terminals are fixedly mounted in a mounting substrate in such an arrangement that the loop portion of the contact heads bias the insulative housing against the substrate to hold the assemblage. In another form of the connector, the substrate may be eliminated, and the contacts include a lower flange portion adapted to bear against lower surface of the housing and an upper tongue portion adapted to bear against an upper shoulder surface of the housing between the tongue portion and the flange portion.

  • Patent number: 4220393
Abstract: Press fit contacts having upper mating portions are stamped, formed and oriented out of sheet material for simultaneous insertion and housing in a removable connector insulator. Receiving sleeves formed in the insulator are constructed to permit the contacts to be bottom loaded into the sleeves, seated and lightly held therein. Each contact includes an intermediate press fit collar portion which engages a mating shoulder in the insulator. The insulator serves as a holding fixture and seating tool for transmitting insertion force applied to the top of the insulator to each one of the contacts for press fitting them into contact receiving apertures in a mounting substrate. The contacts held by each insulator are all simultaneously press fitted into the substrate by continuing to apply pressure to the top of the insulator until it is mounted flush upon the substrate.

  • Patent number: 4198636
Abstract: A pivotal mounting bracket is provided for the mounting and concealed storage of an audio antenna upon and within the trunk of an automobile. The bracket comprises an orthogonally pivotal structure, a first end of which is adapted for mounting upon the underneath side of an automobile trunk lid. A second, opposed end of the bracket is adapted for positioning outside the automobile and supporting an antenna upstanding therefrom. The intermediate bracket portion between said ends is configured for interpositioning between the trunk lid and automobile body portion adjacent thereto for facilitating the use of the trunk without interfering with the antenna mounted thereon. The orthogonal pivotability of the bracket then permits the rotation of the antenna from vertical to horizontal positioning and the rotation of the bracket and antenna from a position outwardly extending from the trunk lid to a secured orientation thereunder and in close proximity thereto for efficient concealed storage within the trunk.

  • Patent number: 4197548
Abstract: An antenna mounting structure is supported and oriented by three linear hydraulic actuators responsive to linear position transducers of a passive stabilization system serving as a vertical reference for keeping an antenna precisely pointed at a geostatically satellite during motion disturbances. The antenna is assembled with each of the linear actuators connected thereto through a gimbaled mount which facilitates accommodation of the requisite angulation thereof necessitated by motion in adjacent actuators. Response in each actuator is derived through an independent linear servo loop directly communicating with a linear position transducer constructed in scaled replication of the respective antenna actuator geometrical configuration and assembled to an inertially stabilized platform.

  • Patent number: 4183226
Abstract: Means for chilling and insulating a canned or bottled beverage such as beer including a cylindrical sleeve of reusable refrigerant disposed within an insulative beverage can holder and displacing the annular "dead air" cavity between a beverage can situated therein and the side walls of the holder. The reusable refrigerant is a substance which may be frozen in conventional refrigerator freezers whereby the refrigerant in a frozen state will chill and keep chilled beer or the like disposed therewithin. In this manner, a beverage may be quickly chilled whether initially refrigerated or not and while being consumed out of doors. Moreover, the chilled temperature is normally unachieveable in conventional refrigerators and is especially not maintainable for any length of time in conventional "dead-air" insulative holders.

  • Patent number: 4180937
Abstract: A snare type animal trap actuatable by a solenoid trigger mechanism having a plurality of sensor elements interconnected with a plurality of snares. The trigger mechanism includes a spring biased T-bar structure over which a snare loop is disposed and triggered by an electrical sensor or switch. The T-bar structure is actuated by the movement of a solenoid which is responsive to said switch disposed in the vicinity of the snare loop. Conventional bait such as animal scent is utilized for urging the animal into the snare loop, or noose, for actuation of the trigger. A backup or secondary trigger mechanism is also incorporated wherein the bait is tied to a mechanical trigger associated with the T-bar structure. In this manner, a plurality of bait and noose elements may be disposed relative to a single trigger structure and operated by a single spring element.

  • Patent number: 4143490
Abstract: Apparatus for polishing or grinding an optical lens through multi-directional, coplanar movement of a lens support frame relative to a polishing head. A pair of drive cams are rotated with an eccentrically mounted shaft while mounted upon orthogonal alignment braces for converting the rotation of the cam into a circular point pattern. A lens support table upstands from each cam for the support of a lens thereon in abutting relationship with a grinding or polishing head thereabove and is driven in said circular point pattern while in engagement therewith. The polishing head and cam base are likewise bidirectionally driven in orthogonal directions for permitting polishing of the entire surface area of the lens mounted thereon. In this manner lens polishing or grinding may be effected in a totally planar configuration for preventing lens slapping and edge aberation.
