  • Patent number: 4069697
Abstract: A control circuit for automatically counterbalancing the moving components of a mechanical power press. The counterbalance circuit is responsive to the current drawn by the press motor to regulate air pressure in a cylinder attached to the press ram. On the press downstroke, air pressure in the cylinder is decreased only if the press is over counterbalanced and on the press upstroke, air pressure in the cylinder is increased only if the press is under counterbalanced.

  • Patent number: 4070078
Abstract: The safety cover encloses an electric outlet to keep such outlet and the electrical plugs inserted therein out of reach of babies, infants and children of tender years to prevent injuries. It includes a plate mounted over the electrical outlet to expose the sockets and which has a pair of spaced apart latching elements. A pair of hollow closure elements are hingedly connected to the plate and are provided with spaced apart flexible abutments engageable with the latching elements for securing the closure elements against different areas of the plate to thereby enclose the sockets and electrical plugs. Babies and small children are not strong enough to release the closure elements and are thus prevented from touching the outlet and plugs. However, adults and grown children have sufficient strength and know-how and can remove the closure elements for the latched position by applying a force thereto which release the flexible abutments from the latching elements.

  • Patent number: 4063841
Abstract: An indexable insert for cutting internal and external grooves in a workpiece is adapted for mounting and securing upon a tool holder having a pocket therein; whose bottom edges define an obtuse angle. The insert comprises an elongated body of rectangular cross section having a flat top surface along one edge of the body and a pair of angular bottom surfaces extending from a central point of the body and inclined toward and extending to said top surface at a corresponding included obtuse angle. These inclined surfaces define a pair of separately usable transverse cutting edges at the opposite ends of said body which is adapted for snug registry within said pocket. Said pocket also defines within the tool holder a back up plate against which the insert bears. The insert, one or more, is held down within said pocket by a clamp which bears across the top edges of said inserts. A cam lock device is also mounted upon said holder to apply lateral pressure to the insert holding it snugly against the back up wall.

  • Patent number: 4062421
Abstract: A power drive system to augment pedalling of a bicycle including a reversible magnetically balanced electromagnetic field positioned in proximity to one wheel of the bicycle, at least one permanent magnet mounted on the wheel to pass through the electromagnetic field when the wheels are rotated by conventional pedalling, and a reversing switch responsive to the position of the permanent magnet to alternate the polarity of the electromagnetic field thereby alternately attracting the permanent magnet into the electromagnetic field and thereafter repelling the permanent magnet outwardly from the electromagnetic field. A reed type switch is positioned to respond to the movement of the permanent magnet to reverse the polarity of the electromagnetic field. A proximity switch is triggered by conventional pedalling to turn off the power when pedalling ceases. Thus, the power drive system assists in the pedalling but does not provide power when the cyclist is coasting.

  • Patent number: 4061077
Abstract: An apparatus for machining a compound curved surface upon a large plate-like metal workpiece comprising an elongated horizontal bed having parallel curved longitudinal edges, a table slidably mounted upon the bed, and having guide strips complementary to and engaging the edges for reciprocating the table horizontally along an arcuate path. A cross-bar is arranged transversely above the bed and table and a support plate having parallel curved edges is mounted upon the bar for slidably moving transversely of the bed. A slide member is mounted upon the support plate and has guide elements engaging the curved edges thereof for movement of the slide member relative to the support plate along an arc whose axis is longitudinal of the bed. A tool member carried by the slide member engages the workpiece, which is fastened to the table, for forming the curved surface thereon as the workpiece is reciprocated longitudinally of the bed, and the tool member is moved transversely of the bed.
