Abstract: A method is disclosed for operating a machine tool which comprises a spindle rotatable about a spindle axis; a spindle gripper, carried by the spindle, for gripping workpieces; and a cradle apparatus that can be pivoted back and forth about a pivot axis of the cradle apparatus extending approximately perpendicular to the spindle axis. In the method, the cradle apparatus with a clamped workpiece is set up in a first position, whereupon the clamped workpiece is removed from the cradle apparatus and held with the spindle gripper. The empty cradle apparatus is then pivoted into a second position, and/or the spindle gripper holding the workpiece is pivoted about the spindle axis. Lastly, the workpiece held by the spindle gripper is inserted back into the cradle apparatus, and the latter is pivoted into a further position for further machining of the workpiece that is once again clamped in.

Two holes are formed in this depression and extend through the wall of the ferrule. A reinforced hose end having flexible tubular rubber or plastic layers is crimped between the ferrule and the nipple. The hose end has an outer wire extending about the exterior of the tubular layers. An end piece of this wire extends through the holes and across the depression helping to secure the hose end to the coupling and providing an indication to the user that the coupling is in usable condition. Preferably the ferrule is formed with a circumferentially extending internal rim at one end, which rim is forced into a circumferential groove formed in the end-fitting.
Abstract: A dynamic labyrinth sealing device which includes a stator having an annular engagement flange on a radially inner portion thereof and a rotator having an annular engagement flange on a radially outer portion thereof. The stator annular engagement flange and the rotator annular engagement flange have coacting radially extending openings for mechanically interlocking the stator and the rotator.
Abstract: An automatic shrink shock strut for use in conjunction with aircraft landing gear. The landing gear is of the type which includes a shock strut cylinder and a shock strut piston mounted coaxially therewith, and defining there between a shock strut shrink chamber filled with hydraulic fluid and a gas spring chamber filled with a pressurized gas. During retraction of the landing gear, the mechanism transfers the pressurized gas from the gas spring chamber to a transfer cylinder and therein drives a volume of hydraulic fluid from a hydraulic fluid supply in the transfer cylinder to the shock strut shrink chamber. The shock strut responds by shrinking to a shortened length. During extension of the landing gear the mechanism returns works in reverse and returns the pressurized gas to the gas spring chamber to drive the volume of hydraulic fluid from the shock strut shrink chamber back to the hydraulic fluid supply, thereby extending the landing gear to its normal length.
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for differentiating cells in an automated particle analyzer, such as for use in hematological analysis, by measuring apparent cell size (or volume), membrane integrity and intracellular complexity ("voltaic fragility"). The cells are suspended in a selected reagent mixture including an electrolytic fluid, such as diluent, and if necessary, one or more membrane-modifying agents are selected and mixed in relative quantities in order to selectively alter the membrane structure (i.e., the membrane integrity) of certain cells and thereby enhance cell discrimination. A predetermined dc voltage is applied across a sensing orifice to thereby create a dc electric field within and around the orifice, and the reagent mixture is passed through the center of the orifice.

Abstract: A wheel hub and bearing assembly for use on the ends of a stationary axle and particularly on tractor and trailer axles. A wheel hub, a pair of bearings, a bearing spacer and seals are assembled and installed on the axle end. The bearing spacer is positioned between the pair of bearings and has one or more vanes mounted thereon for redirecting the flow of lubricant disposed in a cavity in the wheel hub between the bearings in a bi-axial flow direction towards each spaced bearing to lubricate and cool the bearings.
Abstract: In a closure fitting assembly two identical fittings are adapted to be coupled together in a mirror-image relationship for closing a gap between containment components in a double-containment system. Each fitting defines a first axially-extending fusion surface located on one side of the fitting; a second axially-extending fusion surface located on an opposite side of the fitting relative to the first axially-extending fusion surface; a first circumferentially-extending fusion surface located on one end of the fitting; and a second circumferentially-extending fusion surface located on an opposite end of the fitting. Axially-extending fusion wires are interposed within the seams formed between opposing axially-extending fusion surfaces, and circumferentially-extending fusion wires are seated against each circumferentially-extending fusion surface for receiving electric current to heat the wires and in turn fuse opposing surfaces together.
Abstract: A floating wiper seal assembly for sealingly engaging a reciprocating shaft within a hydraulic pump or cylinder housing. The seal assembly includes a generally cylindrical elastomeric seal body configured for reception within a cylindrical bore of the housing. An axial bore extends through the seal body for receiving the reciprocating shaft. A pair of opposed flexible annular lips extend radially inwardly from an interior surface of the axial bore for wiping and sealingly engaging the reciprocating shaft, and at least two flexible annular rings extend radially outwardly from the seal body for sealingly engaging an interior surface of the cylindrical bore. The elastomeric seal body is dimensioned and configured to float freely within the cylindrical bore in both a radial and axial direction upon flexure of the annular lips and annular sealing rings in response to reciprocating movement of the shaft while maintaining sealing engagement with the shaft and the pump or cylinder housing, respectively.
