Abstract: A system for remotely starting a motor of a vehicle and also capable of operating various vehicle accessories such as alarm system, door locks, door windows, trunk latch, etc. The system comprises a portable hand-held transmitter generating a command in the form of a binary coded sequence and a controller mounted in the vehicle for operating the vehicle's motor and accessories in dependence thereon. The system is characterized by a novel encoding scheme of the digitized sequence that prevents command misinterpretation by the controller, thereby avoiding an unintended avocation of the vehicle's motor or another accessory.

Abstract: Apparatus for reducing acoustic background noise for use with a telephone handset or a boom microphone device or a boom headset or the like. The apparatus includes first and second microphones which are arranged such that the first microphone receives a desired speech input and the background noise present in the vicinity of the speech, and the second microphone receives substantially only the background noise. The background noise from the second microphone is converted into a corresponding electrical signal and subtracted from a signal corresponding to the speech and background noise obtained from the first microphone so as to produce a signal representing substantially the speech.

Abstract: A rotary disk storage system is provided for use with portable or laptop computers which is designed to achieve an overall maximum height ("Z-height") not greater than 17 mm. In attaining this result, the top cover and lower base plate of the housing of this rotary disk storage system are sealed by a pressure sensitive adhesive which permits the top cover to "float" on the lower base plate. Moreover, the reduced overall height is attained by forming the spin motor which rotates the magnetic disks integrally with the lower base plate. Further, IC chips are mounted on the printed circuit board to provide signal processing to a host computer, these IC chips being mounted on one side of the printed circuit board to face the lower base plate of the disk storage system. When the rotary disk storage system of the present invention is assembled, each of these IC chips is accommodated within differentially-sized pockets formed in the bottom surface of the lower base plate.

Abstract: A system and method for tracking compact discs during manufacture comprising a spindle having a central shaft and a base for carrying a plurality of compact discs, electronic memory storage system connected to the spindle, and data transfer means cooperating with the spindle to send and receive information identifying compact discs carried by the spindle and/or providing processing information about compact discs carried by the spindle from or to the electronic memory storage system.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing galvanized open or closed steel sections eliminates the steps of pickling and rinsing. The manufacturing process is modified in such a manner that shot blasting of both sides of a strip of substantially flat steel occurs prior to a forming step in the process. After the forming process, the formed section is immersed in a flux solution.

Abstract: The invention relates to deacetylase genes, to processes for their isolation, and to their use, in particular for the production of transgenic plants using tissue-specific promoters. It is possible to prevent the development of certain parts in these plants in a targeted manner. With the aid of deacetylase genes, it is furthermore possible to identify and isolate tissue-specific promoters in transgenic plants.

Abstract: An apparatus for packaging compact disc into respective cases along feed line having one station for opening the cases, a first work station in which an informational leaflet and informational booklet are respectively inserted in a housing portion and a lid portion of the case, a second work station in which a compact disc is engaged with a tray, if present, and a cover are respectively inserted in the housing portion and lid portion, and a final station for closing the case. The lid portion of the case is rotated by means of air blowing nozzles positioned at the opening and closing stations, respectively, to direct an air flow against the lid portion.

Abstract: An airline ticket printer includes a magnetic reading and writing station that has a read/write head for recording information on, or reproducing information from, a magnetic stripe carried on the ticket. The ticket is driven past the read/write head by a drive mechanism that contacts the ticket at a substantial distance from the read/write head so that the magnetic stripe is free to flex independently of the portion of the ticket that is in contact with the drive mechanism. More satisfactory contact between the read/write head and the magnetic stripe is thereby achieved.The printer's control system includes a printer electronics board and one or more single-slot PC/AT (ISA bus) microcomputers that are plugged into respective slots of a mother board.

Abstract: The present invention includes a system and method of electronically executing transactions with a preprogrammed main computer having data and image storage and retrieval equipment. A plurality of electronic images of works of art which are for sale are created by at least one listing dealer and stored on the storage equipment associated with the main computer. Data is input about each stored image and input data is associated with each corresponding stored image. A plurality of preprogrammed intelligent terminals each having data storage and retrieval equipment, at least one display screen and at least one input device, located at at least one listing dealer location and at at least one buying dealer location communicate with the main computer. Search criteria are input through the intelligent terminals for selecting at least one of the stored electronic images for review.

The melts of the two thermoplastic materials should be mutually mixable. The mixture is subjected to thermoplastic forming.
