  • Patent number: 5901570
Abstract: A refrigerator for improving a cooling efficiency. The refrigerator has a cabinet having a refrigerating chamber, a freezing chamber, and an evaporator chamber which is disposed at a rear portion of the freezing chamber, an evaporators which generates a chilled air and has a helical shape forming a conical space portion therein, a blower assembly coaxially disposed at a rear of the evaporator so as to blow an air towards the evaporator, and a heater installed in the conical space portion of the evaporator so as to remove a frost adhering to the evaporator. The refrigerator can effectively make a heat-exchange between the evaporator and the air so that the cooling efficiency is improved. Since the turbulent air flow is introduced into the freezing chamber, the freezing chamber can be uniformly cooled and since the heater is coaxially disposed in the evaporator, the heater can uniformly heat the evaporator, so the defrosting a frost from the evaporator is effectively carried out.

  • Patent number: 5894157
Abstract: A method for fabricating a MOS transistor having an offset resistance in a channel region controlled by a gate voltage and structure thereof is disclosed. A gate electrode is divided into three adjacent regions of respectively a second conductivity type, first conductivity type and second conductivity type connected laterally to one another on a channel region. A gate control voltage is applied to a central region of the first conductivity type, and a predetermined voltage between maximum and minimum values of the gate control voltage is applied to left and right adjacent regions of the second conductivity type. If a gate turn-on voltage is applied to the central region the gate turn-on voltage is forward biased to the adjacent left and right regions and is therefore also applied to the forwardly biased left and right regions. The effective length of the gate electrode then becomes the total length of the central region and the left and right adjacent regions.

  • Patent number: 5871542
Abstract: The invention concerns endoprosthetic knee joint devices of the so called `meniscal knee`variety.A device is provided of the above type wherein the mutually engaging bearing surfaces of the tibial platform and the meniscal component have a part-cylindrical shaping to allow rotation therebetween about an antero-posterior axis, the superior bearing surface of the tibial platform preferably being convex.Movements of the natural joint can still be closely simulated and full congruency can be retained throughout the natural range of movement, but there is an additional degree of restraint at the tibio-meniscal interface. Unrestricted antero-posterior relative movement is allowed, as in the conventional meniscal knee, but the part-cylindrical interface shaping serves to reduce the risk of lateral or medial dislocation.

  • Patent number: 5872024
Abstract: A semiconductor mechanical sensor having a new structure in which a S/N ratio is improved. In the central portion of a silicon substrate 1, a recess portion 2 is formed which includes a beam structure. A weight is formed at the tip of the beam, and in the bottom surface of the weight in the bottom surface of the recess portion 2 facing the same, an electrode 5 is formed. An alternating current electric power is applied between the weight portion 4 and the electrode 5 so that static electricity is created and the weight is excited by the static electricity. In an axial direction which is perpendicular to the direction of the excitation of the weight, an electrode 6 is disposed to face one surface of the weight and a wall surface of the substrate which faces the same. A charge in a capacitance between the facing electrodes is electrically detected, and therefore, a change in a physical force acting in the same direction is detected.

  • Patent number: 5868194
Abstract: A method of making an investment casting mould comprises producing a CAD definition of a turbine blade, and determining the distribution of isosurfaces of constant temperature around the CAD definition of the at least one article if the external surface of the CAD definition of the at least one article was at a high temperature (Thigh). One of the isosurfaces of constant temperature is selected to define the external shape and the thickness of an investment casting mould. A pattern of the turbine blade is produced from the CAD definition of the turbine blade. The investment casting mould is made with an internal shape defined by the pattern of the turbine blade and an external shape and thickness distribution defined by the selected isosurface of constant temperature. The pattern is then removed from the investment casting mould.

  • Patent number: 5862669
Abstract: A thermoelectric water chiller system for cooling fluids, and including a cold sink which defines quiescent areas where convection currents are minimized to facilitate ice formation around the cold sink is provided. The cold sink cooperates with water held in a sealed tank. A cover member which covers the cold sink can be employed which would cooperate with the tank to form a fluid-tight seal therewith. Components needing periodic cleaning are preferably removable from the system, but the tank could be permanently installed. A fan-cooled thermoelectric module assembly is used to form the ice block adjacent the bottom of the tank which chills the water. A variable-speed fan and current to the thermoelectric module are controlled by a control circuit with inputs from various temperature sensors positioned on and within various portions of the chiller system, including sensors to monitor ambient air temperature about the chiller system.
