Abstract: A method and device for controlling a CPU stop clock interrupt of a computer system. The device includes an idle detector and a control processor. A CPU having a stop clock interrupt mode receives a stop clock interrupt signal and sets up and clears the stop clock interrupt mode according to a logic state of the stop clock interrupt signal. The control processor receives a signal representing an idle condition of the computer system from the idle detector, a signal for enabling idle detector control of the CPU stop clock interrupt mode and a signal for forcing the CPU to resume a normal mode by clearing the stop clock interrupt mode. The idle condition can be defined by a computer user according to a selection of predetermined times during which no user inputs are received by the computer system.

One or more of the protruding members can have a polygon-shaped cross section that continuously decreases in area from the proximal end portion to the distal end portion to define the substantially linear edge.
Abstract: A weight (4) rotates with a shaft (5) as a rotational center during acceleration detection. A rotor (1) fixed on the weight (4) rotates integrally therewith. A first cam portion 1a of noncircular configuration on the rotor (1) contacts a plate spring (2) and a second cam portion (1b) of semicircular configuration contacts a plate spring (3), urging constantly the rotor (1) in a direction opposite to rotation direction thereof. The plate springs (2) and (3) have a contact-point function, and when the rotor (1) rotates in resistance to urging force thereof, contact is made with a contact points (2a) and (3a) on the plate springs (2) and (3) due to action of the first cam portion (1a) and second cam portion (1b), and the contacting state thereof is detected via a plate (6) and plate (7) as an electrical signal.
Abstract: An apparatus including: a sprayer for inoculating a microbe on a first division divided from at least one sample of a plant to be examined; sample leaving device for leaving a second division divided from the sample not inoculated with the microbe and the first division inoculated with the microbe, for a predetermined period of time under a predetermined condition; first and second photodetector for respectively measuring the quantities of luminescence emitted from the first and second divisions which have been left standing by the sample leaving device; and a computer for comparing the quantities of the luminescence measured by the first and second photodetector, thereby to examine the resistance or susceptibility of the plant to the microbe.
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a connecting rod for a piston engine in which the inner surface of the small hole of the connecting rod is milled to produce a multifaceted surface which includes two deep spot faces along each edge of the small hole and two tapered faces. This milling step yields thin edge regions along each edge of the small hole to serve as a process reference hole with process reference planes. The final step, according to the method of this invention, is to remove the thin edge regions with a rotating cutting tool, thus exposing the tapered faces to serve as chamfered edges without any significant production of burs or distortion of the connecting rod.

Abstract: The present invention reveals a method for enzymatically inactivating a target DNA, a method for detecting conformational change in a nucleic acid, and a method for detecting the presence of a target DNA molecule. The method for enzymatically inactivating a target DNA involves preparing a plasmid, phage, virus, or any other delivery vehicle such as a liposome containing a gene encoding a nuclease. The delivery vehicle is then delivered into cells. The cells are induced to produce the nuclease and the target DNA is then enzymatically inactivated. Alternatively, the nuclease protein is delivered directly to cells and used to enzymatically inactivate the target DNA. The method for detecting conformational change in a nucleic acid requires contacting a nucleic acid with a hybrid restriction nuclease, determining whether the hybrid restriction nuclease has interacted with the nucleic acid, and detecting the conformational change in the nucleic acid.
Abstract: An antidiffusion layer is provided between a first fuel adsorption layer communicated with a fuel tank and a second fuel adsorption layer communicated with air. Since adsorbing ability of the antidiffusion layer is lower than that of the first and second fuel adsorption layers, pore diffusion of the fuel vapor from the first fuel adsorption layer to the second fuel adsorption layer is reduced. Since the antidiffusion layer forms a plurality of nonlinear passages, air diffusion of the fuel vapor is reduced. Therefore, the diffusion of the fuel vapor is suppressed with a thin, small and simple antidiffusion layer, and the canister can be simplified and the reduction of the number of parts and the cost thereof can be realized.

Abstract: Data on multiple stories or scenes are recorded on a recording medium so as to reduce the physical distance moved by a pickup at playback time and to suppress breaks or disturbances in reproduced video. A multi-scene program having a plurality of optionally selectable branch stories B0, B1, B2, B3, etc., is recorded between a branch point X and a connection point Y. The preceding main story of a video program, made up of video, sound, text and the like, branches off at branch point X to the branch stories, and at connection point Y connects to the succeeding main story in the video program. The recorded state between the branch point X and the connection point Y is such that the branch stories are each divided into multiple cells and the cells of the respective branch stories are recorded time-division multiplexed.
