Abstract: Rotary combustor and seal assembly therefor. A rotary combustor includes a shroud ring encircling an inlet opening of a rotatable kiln in which municipal waste is burned, the waste heat being used to generate electricity. The kiln includes a plurality of parallel heat transfer tubes arranged in spaced parallel circular array. The end portions of the tubes terminate in a ring header or plenum that surrounds the shroud ring, so as to define an annular gap between the ring header and shroud ring. A plurality of blocking members are connected to the kiln and interposed between the plenum and the shroud. The shroud and the blocking members cooperate to seal the gap. Moreover, a portion of each blocking member extends over a predetermined portion of a respective one of the tubes and over a predetermined portion of the plenum to protect the plenum and the pipes from impact damage by the municipal waste.

Abstract: A fuel cell arrangement is provided wherein cylindrical cells of the solid oxide electrolyte type are arranged in planar arrays where the cells within a plane are parallel. Planes of cells are stacked with cells of adjacent planes perpendicular to one another. Air is provided to the interior of the cells through feed tubes which pass through a preheat chamber. Fuel is provided to the fuel cells through a channel in the center of the cell stack; the fuel then passes the exterior of the cells and combines with the oxygen-depleted air in the preheat chamber.
Abstract: A heat curable, polyester type impregnating composition is made, containing acid, and hydroxyl components containing fluorinated alcohol and non-fluorinated polyol, and where a fluorinated aliphatic alcohol having a perfluoroalkyl group from 4 carbon atoms to 12 carbon atoms constitutes from 1 wt. % to about 40 wt. % of the total fluorinated alcohol plus non-fluorinated polyol content of the composition, the composition being useful to impregnate porous tapes wrapped around electrical conductors, or to impregnate porous substrates used to make laminates, the impregnate upon cure imparting water and flame repellent characteristics.
Abstract: A fuel cell stack protective system is made where a plurality of fuel cells, each containing liquid electrolyte subject to crystallization, is enclosed by a containing vessel, and where at least one electric heater is placed in the containing vessel and is capable of preventing electrolyte crystallization.
Abstract: A high temperature, solid electrolyte electrochemical cell is made, having a first and second electrode with solid electrolyte between them, where the electrolyte is formed by hot chemical vapor deposition, where a solid, interlayer material, which is electrically conductive, oxygen permeable, and protective of electrode material from hot metal halide vapor attack, is placed between the first electrode and the electrolyte, to protect the first electrode from the hot metal halide vapors during vapor deposition.

Abstract: A fluid, insulating composition, useful for casting around conductors, is made from a liquid, polymerizable organic resin system, and a liquid, non-polymerizable organopolysiloxane dielectric filler partially soluble in the organic resin system and having the structural formula:(R).sub.3 --Si[OSi(R).sub.2)].sub.n OSi(R).sub.3,where n=0 to about 10, and each R group is selected from H, alkyl having from 1 to 6 carbons, and phenyl, where the dielectric is added in an amount such that, upon polymerization of the organic resin system to form a resin matrix containing dielectric filler, the dielectric will flow or diffuse through the resin matrix into cavities or voids in or bordering the composition or near any insulated conductors or other insulated articles.
