  • Patent number: 4894193
Abstract: The sensor is formed with a polymer body which confines electrical conductors, with the conductors projecting from opposite ends of the body. The conductors' projections at one end define terminal blades, and at the opposite end are shrouded with, and electrically connected by, fusible material that is molded in place. An electrically inert buffer, formed of the same body polymer, is introduced between the conductors at the opposite end, and the fusible material is deposited about the ends and buffer as a cylindrical shell. A V-shaped notch is formed in the buffer for lockingly-engaging the shell. The body has wrenching flats formed thereabout and tapered pipe threads formed thereon to allow its installation in the wall of a pressure vessel, pipe, or housing, with the fusible-material end exposed therewithin.

  • Patent number: 4893753
Abstract: A waterjet cutting apparatus for limiting pressure spikes caused by hydraulic pressure surges. A hydraulic pump pressurizes hydraulic fluid used to operate the apparatus. An intensifier is driven by the pump. An on-off nozzle valve actuator is coupled to the pump and to the intensifier. First and second linkages are provided. The second linkage has a lost motion slot formed therein. An output control device is provided in the pump for controlling output from the pump and thus controlling the level of hydraulic fluid pressure admitted to the intensifier. A first control arm is coupled to the output control device and movable between a "MAX" and "MIN" position. An on-off nozzle actuator opens and closes the on-off nozzle valve remotely by way of the first linkage. A second control arm is coupled to the on-off nozzle valve actuator device and is movable between an "ON" and an "OFF" position.

  • Patent number: 4892160
Abstract: A drill pipe transfer arm supports the bottom portion of a drill pipe and positions it in relationship to the drill string to permit angle drilling with a tilted drill tower. The transfer arm is uniquely suited to circular carousels and features a drill pipe conforming saddle which permits close-quarter operation with a packed carousel.

  • Patent number: 4890980
Abstract: A centrifugal pump including a casing containing an impeller mounted on a shaft with a circular shroud fixed on a hub, a plurality of relatively long radial vanes fixed on the shroud and spaced around the hub at equally spaced intervals, a series of shorter vanes extending radially and spaced around the hub with at least two shorter vanes located between each pair of longer vanes, the inner end of each shorter vane being located radially outward from the inner ends of the adjacent longer vanes, each pair of adjacent longer vanes forming between them a single passage extending radially outward from the hub and flowing into at least three smaller passages formed between said pair of adjacent longer vanes and the shorter vanes located between said pair of adjacent longer vanes, and a series of oblong shaped pressure balancing holes located in said shroud and opening into said passages.

  • Patent number: 4871301
Abstract: A centrifugal pump of the "sealless" type including a casing containing a pumping chamber, inlet and outlet, and an impeller mounted on a shaft supported by an independent bearing system. The impeller shaft is driven by a motor located outside of the casing through a set of magnets located on the opposite sides of the wall of the casing and magnetically interconnected together with the motor driving the magnets located on the outside of the casing and with magnets located on the inside of the casing being connected to and driving the pump impeller. The bearing system includes a lubricating system which in some cases will use the pumped fluid as a lubricant and coolant.

  • Patent number: 4771144
Abstract: An apparatus and process for using a self-aligning bearing having a ball movably seated in a socket mounted in a wall of an explosion-proof enclosure and slidably receiving a shaft for transferring motion from the outside to the electrical equipment inside of the enclosure. The abutting surfaces between the ball and socket of the bearing and the ball and the shaft have minimum flame path lengths to meet minimum safety requirements for extinguishing electrical arcing passing along such abutting surfaces.

  • Patent number: 4767901
Abstract: An outlet connection device transfers motion from outside to inside an explosion proof enclosure and includes a process for using a self-aligning bearing retained in a wall of the enclosure. The self-aligning bearing has flame paths selected to meet minimum safety requirements and contains a shaft for transferring either rotary, axial or joy-stick motion into the enclosure. In a rotary transfer arrangement an electric rotary switch is connected through a blade engaging the shaft passing through the self-aligning bearing.

  • Patent number: 4729157
Abstract: A wheel puller for use on large wheel and tire assemblies has a plate adapted for attachment to a tire rim. A back plate is spaced apart from this plate and extends across the axis of the wheel hub. Two wedge blocks are placed between the back plate and the wheel hub on either side of the center line of the wheel hub. A driving wedge is inserted between each wedge block and the back plate. In the process of using the wheel puller, the driving wedges are alternately tapped with a light hammer to pull the rim away from the hub. If necessary wedging spacers may be inserted between the driving wedges and the backplate to increase the distance that the wheel rim may be driven off the hub.

  • Patent number: 4294214
Abstract: The system comprises a zirconium sensor interposed in the exhaust conduit of a gas-fueled engine for sensing both oxygen content and temperature of the exhaust gases, and for emitting electrical analog signals thereof to a comparator/controller. In turn, the latter transmits a complementary, derivative electrical signal to a current-to-pressure transducer. The transducer is supplied with gas under pressure, from the engine fuel (gas) supply line, and the pressure of this transducer-supplied gas is modulated by the aforesaid derivative signal. The modulated gas pressure is communicated with a gas cylinder, having a translating piston rod, which is operatively engaged with an otherwise standard gas engine regulator for trimming control of the flow of fuel (gas) through the regulator.
