Abstract: This invention is a closed loop control system for controlling the speed at which a consumable electrode is advanced toward a workpiece, for short-circuit metal transfer arc welders. Proportional plus integral feedback is provided for controlling the electrode feed motor speed to reduce the error between commanded and measured time periods between successive weld short-circuit onsets. Speed controls for both direct current and alternating current electrode feed motors are included.
