  • Patent number: 4768992
Abstract: A flexible power transmission coupling wherein a drive member is connected to a driven member by a link assembly. The links are stacked and connected in series. Each link has a first end, a second end and an intermediate part. The first ends of each link are connected together and to the driven member, the second ends of each link are connected together and to a driven member or vice versa. The intermediate part of each link is convoluted and narrower than the ends. This allows greater axial and angular misalignments between drive and driven members. Also this results in a more linear relation between axial force and deflection of the coupling.

  • Patent number: 4765638
Abstract: The present invention is comprised of cylinders with extensible pistons which extend between first points located on a trailer and second points located on a gooseneck which interconnects the trailer to a tractor. The gooseneck and the trailer are rotatably coupled to one another at a common pivot point. The first points and second points are arranged relative to one another such that as the piston in the cylinder is extended or retracted, the gooseneck and trailer are respectively raised or lowered relative to the ground. The gooseneck is arranged so that it substantially encloses the cylinders throughout their entire range of travel thereby protecting them from damage. In addition, a locking apparatus permits locking the pistons to both the first and second points to present rotation of the gooseneck relative to the trailer. Thus the gooseneck and trailer can be removed from the tractor as a single unit.

  • Patent number: 4766362
Abstract: The present invention provides an improved alternator system in which the magnetic flux modulating sleeve is carried by the rotor and rotates with the rotor. The position of the sleeve on the rotor is adapted to be adjusted during operation of the alternator while the rotor and sleeve are rotating. The repositioning of the sleeve on the rotor during rotation beneficially provides a more constant voltage output during load and speed variations. Concurrent rotor and sleeve rotation reduces eddy current losses in the magnetic circuit and increases alternator efficiency. The alternator of the invention is estimated to provide a constant voltage for a 10:1 variation in either electrical load (in OHMS) or rotor angular velocity (revolutions per minute, RPM), or a combined 10:1 variation of electrical load and rotor angular velocity.

  • Patent number: 4731476
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the separation of L-leucine and L-isoleucine. The process is carried out by subjecting a mixture of leucine ester, and isoleucine ester, (or a mixture of leucine ester, isoleucine ester and valine ester) to an esterase catalyzed hydrolysis resulting in a selective hydrolysis of the leucine ester. The pure L-leucine can be isolated from the reaction mixture by first removing the non-hydrolyzed esters by extraction with an organic solvent and then crystallizing the L-leucine at its isoelectric point. The recovered L-iso-leucine ester is purified by distillation (if necessary), and hydrolyzed to yield pure crystalline L-isoleucine.

  • Patent number: 4727720
Abstract: An ice maker is disclosed for freezing ice pieces and delivering the ice pieces to a receptacle under a chute. The ice machine is made up of an ice mold with an opening in its bottom which receives and ice extractor with an open bottom and upwardly and outwardly extending sides. An evaporator plate is supported below the opening in the ice mold bottom and a water supply is provided to maintain the water in the mold at a predetermined level. A thermo electro unit is disposed below the evaporator. Classical freon refrigeration can also be used. Thus when water is frozen to ice in the extractor, the refrigeration, or thermo-electric means melts the ice loose from the evaporator, in some models, and also from the ice extractor. The ice extractor, which is attached to a motor by means of an arm, swings to an inverted position over an ice chute from which the ice falls, is in some models aided by ambient heat, into a repository. The extractor then swings back into the mold for another cycle.

  • Patent number: 4722160
Abstract: A combination grave marker and vase is disclosed. The marker has an enclosure with a top, bottom and four sides. The top has an opening closed by a swinging cover. The cover has a lever with a counterweight. The lever also has an arcuate slot which registers with a slotted member extending generally vertically. An axle on the counterweight engages both the slot in the lever and enclosure. The cover has a receptacle for flowers. When the marker is in use, the cover is opened which will be moved to use position and the flowers can then be placed in the flower receptacle. Since the flower receptacle is integral with the cover, it cannot be craried away and lost. The enclosure top can be flush with the surface of the ground so that it does not interfere with normal cemetery maintenance.

  • Patent number: 4722157
Abstract: A method and apparatus for erecting buildings is disclosed. The method involves providing frame elements of a building which may be made up of spaced columns connected together by a beam or beams which may meet at a gable. To erect the frames, each frame is disposed horizontally on the ground with bases of the columns attached by a hinge member to a footing. A spacer bar is supported with one end in a recess in the ground or attached to the frame. A tension member such as a cable is attached to the frame at the gable and is passed over the top end of the spacer post and a vehicle or other prime mover is attached to the tension member to pull the frame to erect position. Each of the hinge members may be made of a socket to attach to the base of a column and a shoe attached to a ground support footing. • Patent number: 4715744
Abstract: This invention relates to a shore protection device and more particularly to breakwaters for protecting shorelines against wave damage and erosion. The floating breakwater is manufactured primarily from steel plate between 154" thick and 3/16" thick which may be cold rolled steel. The assembly is basically similar to a large floating barge that has some unique design characteristics that allow it to have excellent performance as a breakwall. It is designed to be simple and easy to manufacture, (there are no unusual bending or rolling operations required) and it may be floated to the site or the shoreline which needs protection. Its main feature is that it is designed to break up the tremendous power and force of wave action as the waves come rolling toward the shore, which makes the wave quiescent as it continues on toward the shoreline after it goes over and under the floating breakwater.

  • Patent number: 4714108
Abstract: A heat pump system is disclosed which includes a pipe having a circular cross sectional shape and a diametrically disposed partition dividing the circular cross sectional shape into two semi-circular flow passages. Each flow passage having an area equal to the cross sectional area of the hole through a one inch diameter pipe. The two flow channels are connected together by a return means at their second end and one of the flow passages at the first end is connected to a pump which directs the fluid into a heat exchanger and a return passage is provided for the fluid from the heat exchanger to the second flow passage in the pipe. The pipe is disclosed in a medium like liquid or soil or the like and heat is absorbed by the fluid flowing through the flow channels which is circulated by a pump and transferred to a second medium by heat exchanger.

  • Patent number: 4702359
Abstract: A torque overload release clutch is disclosed made up of a drive member and a driven member adapted to be connected between a power source and a load to transmit a torsional force and to release at a predetermined torque. The clutch release mechanism is made up of a plurality of spaced thermoplastic modules supported in the driven member and a plurality of spaced recesses in the drive member. The modules are each made up of a sleeve and a pin. The sleeve is supported on the driven member and it receives the pin. The pin has a first follower and a second follower member on it. The first follower engages the side of the recesses which acts as a cam and urges the pin toward the sleeve in proportion to the magnitude of the torsional force. The second follower engages a cam surface on the sleeve resisting the force that urges the pin toward the sleeve.
