  • Patent number: 8340027
Abstract: A monitoring period is defined after a scheduled transmission period to enable a transmitting node to acquire control information that may otherwise have been transmitted during the scheduled transmission period. In some implementations the scheduled transmission may be divided up into several segments so that a transmitting node may receive and transmit control messages between segments. In some implementations wireless media access control supports asynchronous communication and overlapping transmissions. Here, a wireless node may determine whether to request or schedule a transmission based on control messages it receives from neighboring nodes. In some implementations data and control information are transmitted over different frequency division multiplexed channels to enable concurrent transmission of the data and control information.

Abstract: An apparatus configured as a compandor to achieve a defined dynamic range for an output signal in response to an input signal. In particular, the apparatus comprises a first circuit adapted to generate a first signal from the input signal, wherein the first signal includes a first dynamic range (e.g., a first sensitivity and first compression point); and a second circuit adapted to generate a second signal from the input signal, wherein the second signal includes a second dynamic range (e.g., a second sensitivity and second compression point) that is different from the first dynamic range of the first signal. The apparatus may further include a third circuit adapted to generate an output signal related to a sum of the first and second signals. By adjusting the first and second dynamic ranges, an overall dynamic range for the output signal of the companding apparatus may be achieved.

  • Patent number: 8233572
Abstract: In a pulse-based communication system a transmitting device may generate a series of pulses to convey information via a communication medium to a receiving device. In some situations, interference from one or more interfering devices may alter the pulse energy as it is transmitted through the communication medium. To mitigate the effect of such interference, a receiving device may mark certain received pulses as erasures. In this way, such pulses may be ignored during the decoding operation of the receiver.
