  • Patent number: 7028934
Abstract: An accumulator assembly comprising at least two accumulators that are hydraulically interconnected to the same source of hydraulic fluid. Each accumulator containing an energy absorbing medium which is compressible when a movable barrier which separates the hydraulic fluid from the energy absorbing medium is acted upon by an increase in pressure of the hydraulic fluid. When the assembly contains two accumulators, one accumulator contains a compressibility limiter which interrupts the compressibility of the energy absorbing medium within the accumulator and the other accumulators does not contain a compressibility limiter so that the energy absorbing media therein may be fully compressed by the hydraulic fluid. The accumulator assembly is favorably utilized in a vertical roller mill.

  • Patent number: 6926522
Abstract: An apparatus for preheating particulate material in which the particulate material is transferred from one or more upper storage bins to a circular lower chamber that has an outer, essentially annular, portion which serves as a gas flow passage. The particulate material is directed from the feed bin or bins into a plurality of essentially vertical cylindrical feed cassettes via intermediate feed ducts. The lower chamber has a flat roof which is in contact with the bottom portion of the vertical feed cassettes. The vertical feed cassettes are approximately evenly spaced on top of the outer perimeter of the flat roof. The particulate material is preheated in the annular flow passage by hot kiln gases flowing in countercurrent heat exchange relationship with the particulate material.

  • Patent number: 6905662
Abstract: Disclosed is a process for the elimination of volatile, foul-smelling organic compounds which are liberated in a gas suspension calciner process utilized to manufacture alumina. The process comprises recirculating captured alumina dust on which undesirable volatile organic compounds are adsorbed to a location in the manufacturing process (1) at or upstream (based on the path of the conveying gases) from the gas suspension calciner and (2) which is operating at a temperature of about 700 ° C. or higher. The adsorbed organic compounds are stripped off the alumina dust and are subsequently directed by process air into the gas suspension calciner furnace which is operating above 1000 ° C. under oxidizing conditions. Under such conditions the organic compounds are oxidized to H2O vapor and CO2. It is a preferred feature that the volatilized organic compounds are adsorbed on the alumina dust in a baghouse.

  • Patent number: 5766001
Abstract: A grate element (1) for a grate surface, e.g. in a clinker cooler, is shaped in the form of a box between the walls (3, 4) of which a number of grate surface-defining grate slats (5, 6) are mutually arranged so that, between them, they form fine gas slots (7). Under each of these slots (7) the grate element 1 comprises an L-shaped slat (9) the ends of which are fixed to the side walls (3, 4) and the body (6) of which is fixed along its entire length to the overlying grate slat (5) so that the foot (12) of the L-shaped slat is positioned parallel to the grate slats (5).Hereby it is obtained that the grate element is effectively cooled, that the pressure loss through the grate element is appropriately large, that the grate element is protected against falling-through of material and that maintenance work in connection with the replacement of grate elements is facilitated.

  • Patent number: 5405091
Abstract: To improve the operation of a roller press, a method is described according to which fluidized material that is discharged from the roller press over and above the sides of the roller press is collected and passed on to the next process stage together with the material which is ground in the roller press and discharged from the centermost section of the roller press. The remaining material which was ground in the roller press and discharged from the roller press through its end sections is returned to the roller press.By practicing the method of the present invention, a depletion of the material in the feed shaft is prevented due to a more stable roller feed, hence obtaining a smooth operation, even for high circulation factors, a higher average power absorption and a higher output level.

  • Patent number: 5277492
Abstract: An improved solid particulate matter blender which is essentially a cylindrical vessel with a hopper bottom and a central lift pipe through which pressurized gas is pumped in order to lift material from the bottom to the top for remixing. An internal cone structure mounted inside the conical bottom hopper improves the mixing action within the blender. A cylindrical extension is attached to the bottom of the internal cone structure and extends toward the bottom of the vessel. Material originating at various heights thus reaches the bottom and is lifted to the top together to accomplish the mixing action.

  • Patent number: 5145253
Abstract: An integrated process blending apparatus which blends particulate material and also automatically controls the flow of material into the blender and out to the associated processing equipment. Load cells attached to the blender vessel are used to control the entry of material into the blender, while the pressure drop in the blender output pipe is used to control an output deflector to either remove or recycle material within the blender. The blender is also made more effective by dividing it into vertical compartments with separators which have angled portions preferably in their lower regions to cause different downward flow velocities in each compartment, and by creating a multistage blender by stacking sets of offset compartments one on top of another.

  • Patent number: 5074670
Abstract: An integrated process blending apparatus which blends particulate material and is also adaptable to store blender inventory to thereby integrate process feed with the blending function. The apparatus comprises a fluidized bed blending means to preblend that raw feed which is not send directly to the gravity blender. Overflow from the fluidized bed means is directed into a storage chamber means from which it can be withdrawn upon demand and sent into the blender. The blender is also made more effective by dividing it into vertical compartments with separators which have angled portions preferably in their lower regions to cause different downward flow velocities in each compartment, and by creating a multistage blender by stacking sets of offset compartments one on top of another.
