  • Patent number: 4378964
Abstract: An extrusion die of the type particularly suited for use in underwater pelletizing of polymeric materials. The die includes a die body having a forward end face with a plurality of extrusion ports passing therethrough terminating at the forward end face. A layer of insulating material is interposed between the forward end face at the area of the extrusion ports and a subplate which is constructed from the same material as the die body. The subplate is fixedly secured to the die body so as to form a substantially integral relationship therewith. A hardened facing construction is fixedly secured to the outer end face of the subplate. Both the facing and subplate allow communication therethrough with the extrusion ports. The insulating material retards or reduces heat transfer from the heated die body to the cooled facing during an extruding operation.

  • Patent number: 4350528
Abstract: A diffusion bonding method for assembling members formed from a liquid phase system material into a monolythic structure free of flaws and distortion. Member blanks are first formed from the material as by compacting or the like and then sintered to have their full density and hardness characteristics. Following sintering, any special surface or internal features are machined into the blanks to define the members. The members are also provided with bonding surfaces adapted to be placed in mating engagement with each other. The members are placed in an assembled relationship with the bonding surfaces engaging each other to define a bonding zone. In some cases, it may also be desirable to place a weight on the assembled members to continuously urge the bonding surfaces toward engagement. In the actual bonding step, the members are heated in a vacuum environment to a temperature intermediate the melting temperatures of the material low and high melting phase components.

The retainer is of a one-piece plastic or nylon construction having a cylindrical retainer body and a plurality of ball receiving pockets positioned on one side of the body so as to extend axially outward thereof. The pockets include entrance areas at the outermost ends thereof which are defined by opposed, yieldable fingers dimensioned to capture a ball member therein. Web areas are interposed between adjacent pockets circumferentially of the retainer body and extend axially outward a distance greater than the pocket entrance areas. A first pilot rim is provided circumferentially of the retainer body to pilot against at least one of an associated inner and outer bearing race.

  • Patent number: 4319789
Abstract: A structural arrangement to restrain skewing of the individual cylindrical rollers which comprise a roller type bearing. At least one of the inner and outer bearing race defining means includes a pair of laterally spaced apart side flanges to partially capture the rollers therebetween with the opposed roller ends each associated with one of the side flanges. At least one of the side flanges is defined by a separate flange member which is selectively movable toward and away from the other side flange. This flange member is urged into engagement with the roller ends associated therewith and causes the rollers to be axially moved so that the roller other ends engage the other side flange. This relationship effects close maintenance of the rollers between the side flanges to prevent roller skewing during bearing use. The means for urging the flange member may advantageously comprise resilient or spring type biasing means as well as fluid pressure.

  • Patent number: 4213718
Abstract: A strut rod mounting assembly of the type which utilizes a pair of resilient bushings disposed on opposite sides of a vehicle frame member. A terminal end of the strut rod passes through a frame member opening and openings in the bushings with an alignment cup interposed between each bushing and the frame member. Each alignment cup includes a first cylindrical flange closely received in the frame member opening for piloting the cup itself and a second cylindrical flange closely received over an axial portion of the associated bushing outer periphery. This second cylindrical flange acts to pilot the associated bushing and thereby eliminates the need for internal piloting and pivoting means which adds high load forces on the bushing inside diameter, causes bushing pinching and abraiding and reduces the mounting assembly overall life.
