  • Patent number: 5405105
Abstract: A tilt wing VTOL aircraft has a fuselage with sides and an upper surface, an upper wing having a leading edge, a trailing edge, a chord, a lower surface and an upper surface. The wing is pivotally mounted on the fuselage for rotation from a cruise flight position in which the upper surface of the wing is flush with the upper surface of the fuselage to a hover position in which the wing is perpendicular to the upper surface of the fuselage. Aircraft engines are mounted on the wing. The aircraft has a pair of flaps at the trailing edge of the wing, each located between the fuselage and an engine and each spaced the same distance from the fuselage and each of the engines. The flaps are mounted for selective movement from colinearity with the chord of the wing to a first angle of about +30.degree. with the chord and about 30.degree. with the upper surface of the wing and to a second angle of about -30.degree. with the chord and about 30.degree. with the lower surface of the wing.

  • Patent number: 5194757
Abstract: Each of at least two asynchronous generators connected to a common electrical load for uninterruptibility of the power supply is driven by a corresponding one of at least two drives in such a way that when any one of the generators is driven above synchronous speed by a slip fraction while its stator is electrically excited, its shaft mechanical power is converted to electrical output power at its output terminal. A control circuit is connected to the load, coupled to the output terminals of the generators and connected to the input terminals of the generators and provides an excitation voltage and controls the phase of the excitation voltage of each of the generators with respect to the load voltage. This controls the slip fraction of each of the generators loosely whereby load current from any source is completely controlled.

  • Patent number: 5142561
Abstract: An X-ray lithography optical system has an elongated concave scanning mirror spaced a first predetermined distance from a source of X-rays. The mirror has a reflecting surface of part toroidal configuration having a first radius of curvature coincident with that of a torus of which the mirror is part and spaced opposite first and second ends having a second radius of curvature, different from the first radius of curvature, coincident with that of the circle which generates the torus. A photoresist is spaced a second predetermined distance from the mirror and positioned to receive X-rays reflected by the mirror. The second predetermined distance is greater than the first predetermined distance. A mask in proximity with the photoresist permits a predetermined pattern of X-rays to impinge on the photoresist and blocks all other X-rays.

  • Patent number: 5042745
Abstract: A tilt ramp swept edge nozzle for vectoring exhaust gases from an engine mounted in an aircraft has a pair of flaps pivotally affixed to the aircraft in the area of the output end of the engine tailpipe. The flaps are in spaced relation to each other, aligned with the trailing edge of the airfoil of the aircraft and are movable to positions substantially parallel to each other and to positions substantially non-parallel to each other. An actuating system coupled to the flaps moves same relative to each other thereby to maintain a substantially constant effective throat area in the nozzle and providing an increasing nozzle aspect ratio and variable thrust direction during transition from forward to aft throat position of the nozzle.

  • Patent number: 4952780
Abstract: A heating system has a substantially cylindrical hollow muffle formed of a alumina ceramic with a plurality of heat-generating windings therearound. A light-actuated power control is operatively connected to the windings. A computer is operatively connected to a temperature monitor associated with an article being heated in the muffle. The computer is also operatively connected to a light-signal generator and provides commands to the generator in the form of a train of equidistantly spaced electrical pulses in response to temperature measurements provided by the monitor such that an article can be heated to an elevated steady state temperature and controlled at that steady state temperature within precise predetermined limits. The precise temperature control makes the system particularly valuable in the fabrication of crystals with uniform properties or having special growth requirements.

  • Patent number: 4856079
Abstract: An electronic blanking system having a plurality of inputs from a number of radio frequency transmitters and a plurality of outputs for supplying blanking pulses to receivers which are in proximity to the transmitters includes input circuitry for processing input pulses from the inputs to produce processed input signals. Timers alter the timing of the processed input signals as required to produce the needed blanking pulses. Matrix means are provided for routing each blanking pulse to the outputs. A processor controls each matrix to determine the routing. Output drivers supply the blanking pulses, at predetermined voltage levels, to the outputs. The processor also controls the timers to determine the manner in which the timing is altered. The timers includes at least one of a delay for delaying the processed input signals, a stretching circuit for increasing the length of the processed input signals, and a truncator for truncating the length of the processed input signals.
