  • Patent number: 4499773
Abstract: A capacitance type pressure transducer having a removable capacitor plate formed of a ceramic substrate containing a conductive film spaced in a controlled relation opposite a tensioned metal membrane. For precluding temperature induced differential forces from adversely affecting transducer accuracy, the controlled relation between the capacitor plate and metal membrane is maintained by a plurality of flexure pins of selective deflection properties securing the assembled spacing therebetween.

  • Patent number: 4497202
Abstract: Apparatus for ensuring laminar flow through the main (non-measuring) branch of a split flow path flowmeter comprising a mass flow controller made of juxtaposed annular plates having interconnecting radial slots. The resulting flow passageways have proper length-to-hydraulic radius ratios to ensure that flow therethrough is laminar. A relatively inexpensive manufacturing technique is utilized to produce the annular plates whereby the radial slots are etched completely through each plate rather than being chemically etched or machined into only part of the thickness of each plate or bored through part of the interior of each plate.

  • Patent number: 4497344
Abstract: The operating stem of a rotary valve is rotationally displaced via a detachable valve cap mounted on the stem and to which rotational operating torque is applied. Depending internally from the cap into a rotational interfit with slots provided on a stem lug are a pair of frangible shear pins adapted to shear off and prevent valve damage in response to excessive rotational torque exerted against the cap.

  • Patent number: 4487674
Abstract: A process for achieving thicker film by electrophoteric deposition techniques by providing an aqueous solubilized organic resin medium having above about 1% and preferably from about 1% to about 20% of a compatible surfactant by weight of solids in the medium. The prepared medium is then used in conventional electrophoteric deposition systems to coat a conductive substrate with an organic resin coating.

  • Patent number: 4485676
Abstract: A pressure gauge in which the mechanical movement that drives the pointer from displacement motion of the Bourdon tube is supported by a bracket of Y-shaped configuration. Comprising the bracket is an integral folded composition defining spreadable support arms joined to an elongated tab adapted for connecting the bracket to the gauge mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4485542
Abstract: A pneumatically operated piston-cylinder is adapted via concentrically located bolts to be secured coaxially of a rotary shaft of machinery about which a force fit annular seal is to be installed or removed. An annular adapter positioned beyond the cylinder from a connection with the piston includes cap screws for fastener mounting of a seal thereon. By directional application of pneumatic pressure, the piston and adapter can be controllably extended toward or withdrawn from the seal cavity of the machinery to install or remove a seal thereat.

  • Patent number: 4484177
Abstract: An analog signal representing the measured output of a condition responsive transducer is supplied to a dual slope integrating analog-to-digital converter also receiving a regulated constant reference signal. Using the integrator in a non-inverting mode, the A/D converter operates in a single conversion cycle by first positively integrating a value of analog signal below a maximum negative input voltage for a fixed time period and then negatively integrating a voltage signal corresponding to the differential between the reference voltage signal and the maximum voltage for a variable time period to a comparative threshold. During integration, digital counts proportional to the variable integration period are accumulated and emitted for operating a digital device such as a digital display.Digital linearization of the converter output can optionally be provided by use of a programmed microcomputer reading a programmable-read-only-memory (PROM) to run a variable frequency clock.

  • Patent number: 4467155
Abstract: Input force transmitted from a monitored process variable is applied against a displaceable double beam mechanism being opposed by a dual spring bias presettable individually to the separate set points of the switch. Comprising the double beam mechanism is an equalizer beam underlying a pair of scissor beams such that displacement force incurred by the equalizer beam is conducted through the scissor beams and supported push rods to operate the switch actuators. In a hi/lo set point embodiment two switches are separately actuated in a predetermined sequence while in a deadband embodiment a single switch is independently settable for make and break.

  • Patent number: 4466640
Abstract: An improved construction for resisting pipe pullout in a pipe coupling of a type subject to being inwardly swaged in the course of forming a coupled joint. A circumferentially extending lock ring having a plurality of axially spaced chisel shaped teeth on its inward face is inwardly dished about its periphery. The ring is axially located within the coupling shell by an annular inwardly extending protuberance on the inner face of shell interfitting within the dished section of the ring periphery. In response to an imposed swaging force, the coupling shell is constricted inwardly to compress a gasket into sealing engagement with a contained pipe section, while the lock ring is concomitantly constricted inwardly into a gripping interlock therewith.

  • Patent number: 4445714
Abstract: A tubular body includes an enlarged counterbore extending inward from at least one end to receive the pipe end of plastic pipe to be coupled. For coupling the received pipe, a tubular stiffener is seated against an inward radial shoulder of the counterbore and extends in a slip fit inward of the pipe end. A spacer retainer ring of generally U-shaped section surrounds the pipe end at the shoulder location while juxtaposed outward thereof are a complementary chamferred gripper ring and locking ring arranged in a ramping relation to each other. Inward threading of an end nut applies sealing pressure against a contained gasket while forcing the locking ring axially inward until stopped by engagement against the back face of the spacer ring. Concomitantly, the gripper ring is collapsed inward by the ramping force of the locking ring as to effect a controlled grip relation with the pipe periphery thereat.

  • Patent number: 4441469
Abstract: A main combustion chamber and a pair of dual ignition antechambers are contained in the engine head associated with each of the engine cylinders with the antechambers in flow communication with the main combustion chamber. A main fuel injection valve is positioned recessed within the cylinder head displaced from the surface of the main combustion chamber for discharging injected fuel in an axial direction to stratify the fuel with respect to air contained in the chamber. During the subsequent compression stroke, a quantity of air surrounding the stratified fuel is forced into the antechambers for mixing with combustible quantities of fuel subsequently supplied. Ignition thereafter of the air-fuel mixture in the antechambers in turn ignites the air-fuel mixture in the main combustion chamber to effect the expansion stroke of the engine.
