Abstract: Radiolabeled conjugates are disclosed which have a component that is effective to target tumor cells, which cells selectively take up and degrade the conjugate, thereby delivering to the tumor cell nucleus a radioisotope capable of being incorporated into the nuclear material, so as to produce a cytotoxic effect and/or to render the cell detectable by radioimaging.

Abstract: Methods are provided for increasing and altering the timing of antibiotic production in Streptomyces species, particularly S. coelicolor and S. lividans, by functionally deleting the S. coelicolor scbA and scbR genes, respectively, or their homologues. Also provided are strains having such mutations, and methods of producing antibiotics using such strains. Also provided are methods for identifying strains in which functional deletion of the scbA and/or scbR genes or their homologues leads to the above effects.
Abstract: A method for killing pests (e.g. insects) comprising administering material from Xenorhabdus species (e.g. X. nematophilus) such as cells or supernatants orally to the pests, either alone or in conjunction with Bacillus thuringiensis or pesticidal materials derived therefrom. Also disclosed is an isolated pesticidal agent (and compositions comprising the same) characterized in that it is obtainable from cultures of X. nematophilus or mutants thereof, has oral pesticidal activity agent Pieris brassicae, Pieris rapae and Plutella xylostella, is substantially heat stable to 55° C., is proteinaceous, acts synergistically with B. thuringiensis cells as an oral pesticide and is substantially resistant to proteolysis by trypsin and proteinase K. DNA encoding pesticidal activity is also disclosed.

Abstract: A secure microprocessor is designed using quad-coded logic which is similar to dual-rail encoded asynchronous logic except that the ‘11’ state propagates an alarm. The alarm signal obliterates secure data in its path. Quad-coded logic provides resilience to power glitches and single-transistor or single-wire failures. The already low data dependency of the power consumption makes power analysis attacks difficult, and they are made even more difficult by inserting random delays in data and control paths, and by a set-random-carry instruction which enables software to make a non-deterministic choice between equivalent instruction sequences. These features are particularly easy to implement well in quad-coded logic.

Abstract: A polyketide synthase (“PKS”) of Type I is a complex multienzyme including a loading domain linked to a multiplicity of extension domains. The first extension module receives an acyl starter unit from the loading domain and each extension module adds a further ketide unit which may undergo processing (e.g. reduction). We have found that the Ksq domain possessed by some PKS's has decarboxylating activity, e.g. generating (substituted) acyl from (substituted) malonyl. The CLF domain of type II PKS's has similar activity. By inserting loading modules including such domains into PKS's not normally possessing them it is possible to control the starter units used.

Abstract: Novel methods for inhibiting angiogenesis and treating diseases associated with angiogenesis are described. The methods may comprise administering to a patient an effective amount of a 1,2-dithiol-3-thione derivative or metabolite thereof. Preferred compounds for use in the methods include 5-(2-pyrazinyl)-4methyl-1,2-dithiol-3-thione (Oltipraz) and its metabolites.
Abstract: A position sensor system is provided at a slidable vehicle seat for sensing seat position in zones and facilitating controlling of the operation of a vehicle passenger restraint device according to a position of the vehicle seat relative to the vehicle passenger restraint device. The vehicle seat includes a pair of substantially parallel slide rail mechanisms which comprise upper rail members and lower rail members mounted to a floor of a vehicle, the upper rail members being attached to lower portions of the vehicle seat and supported to the lower rail members so as to be movable along the lower rail members, so that the vehicle seat can be moved along the lower rail members. The upper rail members and the lower rail members are combined with each other, to thereby define inner spaces. The position sensor system is mounted within at least one of the inner spaces.
Abstract: Protein markers associated with organ transplant rejection and associated conditions are disclosed, and in particular materials and methods relating to the diagnosis and treatment of acute rejection. Examples of markers include a-Crystallin b-chain Tropomyosin a-chain and Myosin Light Chain 1.
Abstract: A mounting arrangement for a light or other object includes a clamping arrangement, or a keying arrangement, or both a clamping and a keying arrangement for mounting to different mounting rails having different keying features. The clamping arrangement includes a fixed clamp member and a movable clamp member that is movable towards and away from the fixed clamp member and is biased towards the fixed clamp member, so as to grip a mounting rail therebetween. The keying arrangement employs interchangeable keying members that may be disposed in a recess of the light or other object and that may have different keying features for use with mounting rails having corresponding keying features.
Abstract: A spare tire cover includes a cup-shaped hard top cover having a substantially cylindrical portion, an inner surface of which is provided with a plurality of inwardly directed projections arranged at predetermined circumferential intervals, a substantially cylindrical fixing plate having a plurality of holes for receiving the plurality of inwardly directed projections to secure the fixing plate to the top cover, and a flexible rear cover having a peripheral edge that is attached to the fixing plate.
Abstract: An apparatus for remote gas sensing comprising a light source, a photodetector, a gas cell containing gas or a zone through which the gas passes and through which light from the light source passes and is reflected back to the photodetector, wherein the light source, photodetector and gas cell are connected by a single polarization preserving optical fiber through which light from the light source passes to the gas cell, which light reflected back from the cell passes back through the optical fiber with a different polarization to that to the light transmitted by the light source. In one form the gas cell comprises a resonant optical cavity.
Abstract: Novel nucleic acid molecules encoding SA-binding proteins involved in SA-mediated disease resistance responses are disclosed. Methods of use of the nucleic acid molecules and proteins of the invention are also provided.
