  • Patent number: 6182048
Abstract: A system and method for automated risk-based pricing of a vehicle-warranty insurance policy. A vehicle warranty policy request input source receives a request for a vehicle warranty policy. A processor receives the request and uses analytical tools in conjunction with an environmental database, a vehicle database, and a historical database, to service the request. The processor generates a price, conditions and terms for the request using a risk-based pricing algorithm. A system operator reviews the price, conditions and terms and either accepts or rejects the policy request. The system operator also has the option to adjust the price, conditions and terms derived from the processor.

  • Patent number: 6141887
Abstract: A system and method for sensing the dryness of clothing articles in a clothes dryer. In one embodiment, the clothes dryer uses a temperature sensor and a phase angle sensor to determine the dryness of the clothing articles as a function of the heated air temperature and the motor phase angle. In another embodiment the clothes dryer uses a humidity sensor to determine the dryness of the clothing articles as a function of the humidity of the heated air temperature. In a third embodiment the clothes dryer uses a temperature sensor, a phase angle sensor, and a humidity sensor to determine the dryness of the clothing articles as a function of the heated air temperature, the motor phase angle, and the humidity of the heated air temperature.

  • Patent number: 6105149
Abstract: The present invention discloses a system and method for diagnosing and validating a machine with waveform data generated therefrom. In this invention, historical waveform data are obtained from machines having known faults along with corresponding actions for repairing the machines and are used to develop fault classification rules. The fault classification rules are stored in a diagnostic knowledge database. The database of classification rules are used to diagnose new waveform data from a machine having an unknown fault.

  • Patent number: 6078911
Abstract: A fuzzy logic controller is compiled into values in a look-up table such that the table may be used for adjusting a process dependent upon the state variables. The look-up table may be generated by use of a Mean of Maxima (MOM) technique for defuzzification. Alternately, an approximate Height Method (HM) may be used to provide defuzzification. The MOM and HM techniques allow fuzzy logic control without executing any rules in run-time. A further alternative uses an exact height method and minimizes the number of rules which are executed in run time.

  • Patent number: 6067486
Abstract: A method and system for planning repair or overhaul of an aircraft engine. This invention retrieves engine configuration data for a plurality of life limited parts for the aircraft engine, retrieves service requirement data for at least one of the plurality of life limited parts for the aircraft engine, and automatically determines a remaining life for the at least one of the plurality of life limited parts of the aircraft engine from the configuration data and the service requirement data.
