  • Patent number: 4650533
Abstract: A method is disclosed for the preparation of a hot transfer film that is pre-cut and pre-positioned for continuous application during the forming of plastic articles by an in-mold decorating technique. A carrier film is first bonded to the transfer film from which the hot transfer is prepared, to form a releasable laminate. The laminate is then printed with appropriate decorating indicia on the free surface of the transfer film component thereof. Printing may be single-stage or multi-stage, depending upon the indicia desired, and a subsequent metalization of the transfer film surface may be performed. The fully printed laminate is then indexed into position and die-cut under conditions controlled to assure full penetration of the transfer film by the die, without penetration of the adjacent surface of the carrier film.

  • Patent number: 4651128
Abstract: An apparatus and method for monitoring the inclination of a motor vehicle, measures the inclination during successive time periods with an inclination-sensitive sensor to produce measured signals; converts the measured signals to digital form; averages the digital signals during an initial predetermined time period to form an original reference signal; stores the original reference signal; compares subsequent digital signals to the reference signal to form a deviation signal which is used for triggering an alarm when a plurality of the digital signals deviate from the reference signal by more than a predetermined tolerance value; the reference signal being continuously updated by averaging subsequent digitized measured signals at plurality of times during subsequent time periods to form updated reference signals; storing each updated reference signal in place of a previously stored reference signal; providing an oscillation window to prevent triggering of the alarm during natural oscillation of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4643020
Abstract: A viscosimeter for measuring the viscous and elastic properties of a visco-elastic substance continuously in or on a process flow comprises a measuring member which extends into the substance and which is displaced with a reciprocating oscillatory movement, whereby a defined constant shear flow occurs between the measuring member and the said substance. The viscosimeter further includes a connecting linkage connecting the measuring member to a drive, the end portion of the connecting linkage which carries the measuring member and which is enclosed by a bellows member being in the form of a carrier member extending normal to the axis of rotational symmetry of the measuring member. The measuring member is connected to the end of the carrier member in such a way that its geometrical axis coincides with the axis of rotational symmetry. The bellows member only performs pure angular movements which give rise to only very slight measuring errors and which enable it to enjoy a long service life.

  • Patent number: 4643789
Abstract: A method is disclosed for the preparation of a thermoformable transfer film that may be pre-cut or is pre-positioned for continuous application during the forming of plastic articles by an insert molding decorating technique. A carrier film is first bonded to the transfer film from which the transfer is prepared, to form a composite. The composite is then printed with appropriate decorating indicia on the free surface of the transfer film component thereof. Printing may be single-stage or multi-stage, depending upon the indicia desired, and a subsequent metalization of the transfer film may be performed. The fully printed composite is then indexed into position and thermoformed to form the insert which later may be indexed directly into the mold chamber. The insert may be die-cut after its formation or prior to thermoforming. The present method facilitates the decoration of insert molded products in a manner which eliminates the need for conventional insert molding.

  • Patent number: 4640301
Abstract: A locking assembly is disclosed which is suitable for releasably locking two articulated pivoting members in a fixed position with respect to each other. The locking assembly comprises a spring biased reciprocating latch, a plunger attached to the latch, and a catch plate adapted to rotate into locking engagement therewith. The plunger and latch are preferably integral with each other, so that the latch contains a minimum number of moving parts. The latch is designed so that simple palm pressure will cause it to disengage from the catch plate, to permit the pivoting members to move with respect to each other. The present locking assembly is of simple design and inexpensive manufacture, and is durable in use. The locking assembly is particularly applicable for use in invalid appliances such as collapsible walkers, where the users have limited manual dexterity.

  • Patent number: 4629140
Abstract: A film reel assembly is disclosed which comprises parallel flanges with a cylindrical hollow hub disposed therebetween. The flanges define adjacent their axis of rotation a keyway within which a removable core member may be inserted, the core member defining a bore for the reception of an axis of rotation for the film reel. The core member has a specific cross-sectional configuration and the keyways define an identical and complementary configuration to accept the core member. The core member includes stop members located on one of its radiating arms that retains the core member in position within the keyway. The core member may be removed from the remainder of the film reel and replaced when it is too worn to be serviceable. A further feature of the film reel comprises an arcuate film-retaining slot disposed radially inward of the hub, with tapering periphery to frictionally engage the leading edge of the film strip as it is being initially threaded.
