Abstract: Filter assemblies are disclosed that include a pleated web in which the pleats are connected to each other to provide support for the filter media during use. The interconnected pleats preferably form an array of openings facing the upstream side of the filter assembly when subjected to fluid pressure during use. In addition, the preferred filter media also includes an array of pockets located behind each of the points at which the pleats are connected. By connecting the pleats to form arrays of openings and pockets during use, the filter assemblies provide a structure that deforms in a predetermined, acceptable manner without the need for external support structure to support the pleats.
Abstract: A tape laminate comprising an internally separable layer having first and second opposite major anchor surfaces, which separable layer has an internal static shear strength in a direction parallel to its anchor surfaces that allows it to support a significant weight (e.g., at least 6 pounds per square inch), and has an internal dynamic tensile strength in a direction generally normal to its anchor surfaces of no greater than 40 pounds per square inch. The major anchor surfaces of the separable layer are bonded to the opposed surfaces of objects (which bonding can be done with strips of stretch release adhesive) so that the laminate can support one object from the other against a static force generally parallel to said anchor surfaces of at least 6 pounds per square inch, whereas the separable layer can be internally separated by a dynamic separating force normal to said anchor surfaces of no greater than about 40 pounds per square inch to separate the objects.
Abstract: Double-sided stretchable adhesive tapes are described for use in conventional applications, particularly including the mounting or joining of an object to another surface. An improvement lies within the ability to control the timing of the debonding of both surfaces so that one adhesive surface releases before the other. The earlier release can be either on the object side or the surface side, depending on the desired effect. The present invention is applicable to all stretchable tape constructions including the use of plastic backing materials and/or elastic backing materials and allows such an object to be removed without risking substantial snap-back of the adhesive tape or catapulting of the object.
Abstract: The present invention provides light valves including polarizing elements in which light transmission can be controlled by rotating at least one of the polarizing elements about an in-plane axis. Although reflective polarizing elements are preferred in devices according to the present invention to reduce the problem of heat build-up, the use of absorptive or other polarizers may also be envisioned. The light valves according to the present invention may find use in any application in which the transmission of light (visible or otherwise) is to be controlled. Examples of specific applications include, but are not limited to: windows, luminaires, skylights, etc.

Abstract: Described is an adhesive clip including a back sheet with a first layer of removable pressure sensitive adhesive on its front major surface, and a second layer of removable pressure sensitive adhesive on its rear surface; and a front sheet of polymeric material having a size adapted to at least overlay the first layer of removable pressure sensitive adhesive on the back sheet which has a first edge attached to the back sheet with the front sheet overlying the first layer of removable pressure sensitive adhesive. When the back sheet is adhered to a planar substrate by the second layer of pressure sensitive adhesive, the front sheet can be pivoted away from the back sheet a distance affording positioning an edge portion of a sheet to be supported between the front sheet and the first layer of pressure sensitive adhesive and pressing of that portion of the sheet to be supported into engagement with the first layer of pressure sensitive adhesive so that the sheet will be supported along the substrate.
