  • Patent number: 7448289
Abstract: A manual transmission includes an input shaft operatively connected to a source of motive power and a countershaft in axially parallel relationship with the input shaft. The manual transmission also includes an output shaft in axially parallel relationship with the counter shaft. The manual transmission further includes a plurality of gear set pairs disposed between the input shaft and the counter shaft such that the gear sets provide different gear ratios for transferring torque from the input shaft to the output shaft, each of the gear sets including a driver gear operatively supported by the input shaft such that the driver gear receives only torque from the source of motive power.

  • Patent number: 7410040
Abstract: An actuator for selectively causing axial compression of friction elements in a clutch is disclosed. The actuator comprises a pair of beveled wedge washers and a bearing race supported between the washers. The race supports conical bearing rollers in a generally radial orientation. An actuator plate is mounted for rotation relative to the bearing race and includes bearing ramp surfaces that are operable to move the conical bearing rollers radially inwardly thereby forcing the washers to move apart axially and to thereby cause compression of and torque transfer through the friction elements. A clutch including the actuator is well suited for inclusion in a transfer case.

  • Patent number: 7336164
Abstract: A system for monitoring tire pressure and producing a first signal in the event that a low tire pressure condition has been sensed and a second, different signal in the event that a low tire pressure condition has not been sensed and a third signal in the event that the system is not operable. The system comprises a sensor for each tire and an associated transceiver antenna coil. Each sensor comprises a pressure switch and a circuit that has a first resonant frequency when the pressure switch is in a first state and a second, different resonant frequency when the switch is in a second state. An excited circuit associated with each transceiver antenna coil generates an AC electromagnetic field across the transceiver antenna coil and a detector circuit is operable to demodulate information communicated passively by the sensor that reflects its resonant frequency.

  • Patent number: 6966904
Abstract: A feeding device and a method for facilitating the transition from non-oral tube feeding to oral feeding is disclosed. The device comprises a fluid reservoir having a fluid outlet, a nipple having a fluid outlet, a shield attached to the nipple base, a conduit for conveying fluid from the reservoir to the nipple fluid outlet and a manually adjustable valve that is operable to prevent and control the flow of fluid through the conduit. The method comprises the steps of providing a device of the type just described, acclimating an infant to the device by closing the valve and inserting the nipple into the infant's mouth. The valve is then opened to permit the very slow flow of fluid through the nipple outlet. Additional feeding regimens are provided in which restriction of the flow of fluid is gradually relaxed over a series of feedings until the infant is able to withdraw about sixty cubic centimeters of fluid during a twenty minute feeding without distress.

  • Patent number: 6961999
Abstract: A deep V-section aero rim for a tensioned spoke wheel and a method for producing it are disclosed. The rim is produced by extruding an alloy to produce a rim profile, rolling the extrusion, cutting the rolled extrusion to length, joining the free ends to produce a rim blank and mechanically reducing the thickness of the rim side walls a substantial amount. In one embodiment, each of the side walls, after extrusion, has a thickness that is sufficient to withstand buckling of the side walls during rolling. After rolling and cutting the extrusion to length, its ends are joined and each side wall, namely, the portion between the rim floor and the braking surface, is thinned, preferably by mechanical abrasion, until each side wall is so thin that an extrusion having side walls of that thickness could not be rolled without side wall buckling. In another embodiment, flanges on the outside of the side walls prevent buckling during rolling and the flanges are removed after rolling.

  • Patent number: 6824736
Abstract: The invention relates to a pusher furnace (1) for the annealing treatment of aluminum bars for instance. Rails (7) with plate-shaped sliding supports (8) are provided. Said supports cover the entire width of the rails (7) and are produced with grooves (12) on the upper sides thereof. The grooves extend in the longitudinal direction of the rails (7) in an arrow-shaped manner and serve for receiving driven material. Several sliding supports (8) are juxtaposed and thereby form arrow-shaped expansion joints. The rails (7) and the sliding supports (8) can be easier produced and assembled by virtue of the inventive embodiment of said rails (7) and sliding supports (8). Furthermore, the material (10) can be transported without jolts in as far as possible, whereby said material is mounted on sliding shoes (9).

  • Patent number: 6821672
Abstract: A binderless glass fiber mat suitable for use as a separator for valve regulated (“recombinant”) lead acid (“VRLA”) batteries is disclosed. The separator is produced by a dry process by collecting the fibers from fiberizing apparatus, without subjecting them to a wet paper making or other post forming process, and selecting portions of the collected fibers which are sufficiently uniform in thickness and grammage for use as battery separators. The fibers can be entwined to produce a superior separator material. Additives can be introduced during the collection process to enhance the properties of the separator. A battery comprises at least one stack of alternating positive and negative plates, with the separator between adjacent plates. Separators according to the invention are significantly more resilient and have longer fibers than otherwise identical separators made from different samples of the same glass fibers, but by a conventional wet paper making process.
