  • Patent number: 7749519
Abstract: Malaria in humans is caused by infection with Plasmodium species parasites including P. vivax. The biology and immunobilogy of P. vivax is distinct from that of P. falciparum. Provided are unique synthetic polypeptides and DNA molecules which encode them. Each of these molecules correspond to regions of the circumsporozoite protein of P. vivax. Each molecule comprises sequences corresponding to several repeats of the central region of the Pv 210 variant fused to sequences corresponding to several repeats of the central region of the Pv 247 variant. Each molecule additionally comprises sequences corresponding to either the amino terminus, the carboxy terminus, or both the amino and carboxy termini of the PvCSP. Also provided are vaccines comprising these unique sequences and methods of using these vaccines and sequences to prevent and treat Pv malaria.

  • Patent number: 7676947
Abstract: A label printing kit, system, and method of use is disclosed which enables a user to print and easily apply labels to one or more units of a product with precise registration of the label on each unit of the product. The system utilizes labels with adhesive on a backside and a jig so that the labels can be easily, rapidly, and precisely applied manually to one or more units of a particular product, item or object.

  • Patent number: 6929209
Abstract: Disclosed is an automatically retracting cardholder or accessory holder which, when worn, retains and automatically reestablishes the desired orientation of the card or accessory to user. A longitudinally flexible tape is used, with a non-circular cross-sectional geometry having a long and short axis and lateral stiffness. The tape passes through an orifice in the housing that geometrically corresponds to the shape of the tape, thereby obviating the tape from passively rotating about its long axis, or, due to the inherent memory of the long axis rotation of the tape, automatically reestablishing the desired orientation of the tape rotation if the tape is twisted by the user. The means for attaching the card or other accessory to the tape is such that the orientation of the accessory to the tape is fixed. Thus, the orientation of the card or accessory to the housing, and consequently the user wearing the housing, is fixed thereby.

  • Patent number: 6406048
Abstract: An improved bicycle rear suspension system with a triangular wheel suspension component comprising three members; a planar truss chainstay member with a wide lateral side and a thin vertical side, adapted to be longitudinally and laterally rigid and vertically flexible; a seatstay member with an integrated shock absorbing means adapted to dampen the suspension movement, the shock absorbing means being a long-travel, short-length shock absorber with angular deflection capability; and a seat tube member, arranged in a triangular configuration wherein one, two, or all three junctions between the members are pivotless, thereby eliminating rotating pivot elements and providing a low maintenance requirement, durability, high reliability, low manufacturing costs, progressive springing and damping, a comfortable ride, a compact size, and light weight, while increasing lateral and torsional rigidity and wheel travel, and maintaining the strength and aesthetic appeal of the traditional diamond frame.

  • Patent number: 6375227
Abstract: The present invention discloses a knob-like collar device adapted to fit securely around the lateral displacement locking sleeve of a quick-release hose coupler. The device promotes one-hand operation of the coupler by providing purchase and grip for the thumb of the hand holding the coupler thereby facilitating the lateral displacement of the locking sleeve. The device is particularly useful when the coupler is very cold, a condition that commonly results from the high velocity passage of fluids or gasses through the coupler. The device also absorbs mechanical shock resulting from the accidental dropping of the coupler on a hard surface, thereby protecting the coupler from damage.

  • Patent number: 6245427
Abstract: The present invention discloses compositions and methods of using intracellular delivery vehicles for delivery and transfection of DNA, RNA, polypeptides, genes, proteins, drugs and biologically active agents into cells in vitro and in vivo. The vehicle comprises a mixture of a liposome and a polypeptide lacking specificity for cellular receptors. In another embodiment, a method for intracellular delivery of biologically active agents comprising combining a non-receptor-binding protein and a liposome, incubating the mixture for a period of time, adding the biologically active agent, incubating again, and finally, introducing the resulting mixture to the cell. Preferably, the liposome is a cationic liposome. The charge ratio of cationic liposome to DNA can effectively be varied from 2:1 to 1:2. Preferably, the non-receptor-binding protein is the serum albumin of the animal source of the cell to be transfected.

  • Patent number: 6056209
Abstract: A process for treating liquids to improve their usefulness without the use of traditional soaps or detergents, primarily through the treatment of a solution by the use of a holding tank and agitator, and treatment therein by a non-soap, non-detergent device such as activated ceramic filled floating containers, floating structured water filled containers, a magnetic liquid treatment pipe, electrodes, and/or other chargers. The liquid is then transported by way of a hose A to a pressure pump, then to hose B, and to a spray wand; or to a container for later use. Cleaning of on-site carpets and upholstery, floors and the like are taught.

  • Patent number: 5813461
Abstract: A device for use in remediation of a multiplicity of adjacent subsurface geologic strata is described. The device comprises co-axially or concentrically positioned conduits installed in a borehole with an inner conduit extending below an outer conduit through a seal attached to the distal end of the outer conduit. The distal ends of both the outer, upper and the inner, lower conduits are perforated to allow the flow of liquids or gases through the conduits between ground surface and the geologic stratum adjacent to the perforated sections of both conduits. The annular spaces between the borehole wall and the unperforated portions of both the inner and outer conduits are sealed with impermeable barrier plugs to prevent flow parallel to the borehole axis between the borehole wall and the outer surface of the conduits. The annular spaces between the perforated sections of both conduits and the borehole wall is filled with a permeable granular filtration material.
