  • Patent number: 5850373
Abstract: A transmission mechanism for a magnet-bearing ornament, in which a clock main spring barrel serves to provide power required by the ornament to show a dynamic scene. The clock main spring barrel has a second wheel to replace a conventional second hand. The second wheel has a large number of teeth provided along its circumferential surface and meshes with a small driven gear to cause the latter to rotate at a high speed. The small driven gear may then cause a magnet-bearing member to coaxially rotate with it via a rotating shaft of the gear connected to the magnet-bearing member. Alternatively, the small driven gear is provided with a major rotational disc having magnets attached thereto. When the small driven gear rotates, the major rotational disc rotates synchronously to magnetically rotate the magnet-bearing member behind a background board of the ornament disposed between the clock main spring barrel and a front showing space.

  • Patent number: 5842433
Abstract: A port assembly for a marine vessel having an outer wall with an opening therein includes a shaped lens element, a pair of concentric plastic rings and a resilient gasket between the lens element and one of the rings. The plastic ring on the outside of the vessel is adjacent to the gasket and includes a pair of hinged brackets and a plurality of mounting members. A hinge assembly connects the plastic ring and lens element and allows the lens to be rotated inwardly to an open position and back to a closed position in which it is pressed against a gasket. One or more dogs are rotatably mounted on the mounting members for holding the lens element in a closed position. The second plastic ring is constructed and arranged to clamp the first ring within the opening and against the wall of the vessel. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, a decorative metal ring covers the exterior surface of the port assembly.

  • Patent number: 5840375
Abstract: A rare earth-based permanent magnet such as a neodymium-iron-boron permanent magnet, which is disadvantageous in respect of the low corrosion resistance, can be imparted with high corrosion resistance by providing the surface with a protective coating film of vitrified alkali metal silicate, e.g., sodium silicate, of which the SiO.sub.2 :(alkali metal oxide) molar ratio is in the range from 1.5 to 20. The vitrified alkali metal silicate-based protective coating film can be formed by coating the surface of the magnet with an aqueous coating solution containing sodium silicate to form a coating layer which is dried and subjected to a heat treatment at 50.degree. to 450.degree. C. to effect vitrification of the alkali metal silicate. The thickness of the thus formed protective coating film should be in the range from 5 nm to 10 .mu.m.

  • Patent number: 5784659
Abstract: A film feeding apparatus of a camera using a film having two perforations per frame detects the end of the film by detecting the final frame of the film. The film feeding apparatus comprises a detecting means for detecting the passage of a first perforation to detect a feeding speed of the film, a setting means for setting a predetermined limit value (limiter time) in accordance with the feeding speed, a film end determining means for determining that the film has ended when the passage, of a second perforation is not detected within the set limit value while the film is wound up. The film feeding apparatus feeds the film in accordance with a predetermined procedure of one-frame winding up and rewinds the film when the film has ended.

  • Patent number: 5698862
Abstract: The invention presents a structure of heterostructure-emitter and heterostructure-base transistor. The device structure are, from bottom upward in succession, a substrate, a buffer layer, a collector layer, a base layer, a quantum well, an emitter layer, a confinement layer and an ohmic contact layer. Of them, except the quantum well which is made of InGaAs and the confinement layer which is formed by AlGaAs, the rest are all made of GaAs material. Base on the design of the heterostructure of base and emitter, a transistor of such structure, under normal operation mode, possesses high current gain and low offset voltage so as to reduce undesirable power consumption. In addition, under the inverted operation mode, the interesting multiple S-shaped negative-differential-resistance may be obtained due to the avalanche multiplication and two-stage carrier confinement effects.
