Patent number: 4483534Abstract: A plate is mounted to a basketball backboard by bolts passing through the four standard bolt holes and forms a horizontal fulcrum. A standard hoop having a conventional L-shaped mounting bracket is positioned with the vertical leg thereof abutting the plate. A bolt passes from the plate through a hole in the vertical leg. A resilient shock absorbing mass is mounted between the outer face of the vertical leg and the end of the bolt, and acts as a shock absorbing device when the goal hoop is deflected about the fulcrum due to downwardly directed forces applied to the hoop. The shock absorbing device is positioned centrally with respect to the four mounting holes with all parts thereof ahead of the front face of the backboard.Type: GrantFiled: September 7, 1982Date of Patent: November 20, 1984Assignee: Saflex SystemsInventor: John F. Patent number: 4241871Abstract: An automatic ventilation system for an enclosure for animals, fowl and the like, whereby plural banks of exhaust fans are controlled by respective thermostats set for operation at respective individual temperatures over an operating range of temperatures, while movable baffles or the like at air inlet apertures are adjusted under the control of a differential-pressure sensing means to regulate the rate of flow of air through the inlet apertures to maintain a desired difference between the barometric pressure within and without the enclosure irrespective of the number of banks of fans in operation at a given time; when the thermostat set at the highest temperature is actuated, the movable baffles are adjusted for maximum flow irrespective of the output of the differential-pressure sensing means, thereby establishing a second, and smaller, differential pressure; upon failure of the primary power source, a second power source is automatically utilized to adjust the inlet baffles to a position of maximum opening,Type: GrantFiled: November 27, 1978Date of Patent: December 30, 1980Inventors: Alfred T. Patent number: 4152855Abstract: A receiver and bolt for a rifle wherein both the receiver and the bolt contain mating lugs of equal spacing around the receiver and bolt. The width of the lugs on the receiver at their attachment to the receiver and the spacing between the lugs are equal. Additional locking lugs can be attached behind the first-mentioned lugs to provide additional restraining force capability. The lugs should be mounted on an angle of 90.degree. to 72.degree. as calculated from a plane normal to the axis of the bolt or receiver.Type: GrantFiled: March 28, 1978Date of Patent: May 8, 1979Inventors: Joseph T. Patent number: 4132054Abstract: A hackamore bridle is disclosed that may be positioned on an animal such as a horse, with the bridle exerting pressure substantially only on the nose of the animal when the reins are pulled. The bridle includes a headstall having a pair of cheek plates connected between cheek straps and a chin strap so that the cheek plates are adjacent to the cheeks of the animal when the headstall is positioned on the head of the animal. Reins are connected to one end of a pair of rein levers, the other end of each of which is pivoted on the cheek plates. A nose strap is connected between the levers and freely passes through eyelets on the cheek plates, so that pressure is exerted by the nose strap on the nose of an animal when the headstall is positioned on the animal, with the nose strap being tightened on the nose of the animal by pivoting of the levers without applying appreciable pressure to the jaw of the animal through the chin strap.Type: GrantFiled: May 3, 1976Date of Patent: January 2, 1979Inventor: Oscar J. Mader

Patent number: 4082064Abstract: An animal feeding apparatus is disclosed that is particularly well-suited for intermittent feeding of poultry. The apparatus includes a plurality of feeding pans arranged in groups, with each group connected through a feeder conduit to feed storage hoppers. The feed storage hoppers are connected to a storage bin through a supply conduit, with each connection to a feed storage hopper being through an adjustable passageway having an excess feed reservoir connected therewith. The feeder structure, consisting of the feeding pans, feeder conduits and feed storage hoppers, is normally within a poultry house and is moved upwardly and downwardly by a reversible motor and cable drive unit to effect intermittent feeding of poultry within the poultry house.Type: GrantFiled: November 26, 1975Date of Patent: April 4, 1978Inventor: Alfred Turenne Newell, III

Patent number: 4065024Abstract: A safety-adapted pivoted closure device for vessels containing volatile or flammable liquids is disclosed. The disclosed pivoted closure device has a flash arrester and safety vent, with the resulting device being positionable on a vessel, such as a portable receptacle containing gasoline. A spring biases a closure cap on the device toward a closed position, and the spring bias is overcome if a predetermined pressure build-up occurs within the vessel to thus allow the pressure to be relieved. Should this occur, gas and/or fumes are expelled from the vessel, but only through the flash arrester. A handle and linkage assembly are provided for manually moving the cap from a closed position to open the receptacle by overcoming the spring bias thereon with the handle and linkage assembly being designed so as not to prevent release of a pressure build-up within the vessel while the cap is in a closed position.Type: GrantFiled: October 7, 1975Date of Patent: December 27, 1977Inventor: Max Raymond Atwell

Patent number: 3948399Abstract: A bale positioning device is disclosed for positioning bales in a manner such that pickup by an agricultural loading machine is facilitated. The positioning device is mounted near the intake bale chute of a conventional bale loading machine and includes a spider wheel that is adjustably mounted for free rotation on one end of an arm that has the other end adjustably connected with a bell crank mechanism such that said spider wheel is both lifted and rotated upon actuation of the bell crank mechanism. When the spider wheel is brought into contact with a bale that is not properly positioned, the wheel will cause the bale to be shifted about a vertical axis and/or a horizontal axis as the machine proceeds forwardly to thereby properly position the bale for entry into the intake chute of the pickup machine.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 1974Date of Patent: April 6, 1976Inventor: Robert E.
