  • Patent number: 4726792
Abstract: An electrical connector comprises a dielectric housing having a passageway extending therethrough and a latching aperture in communication with the passageway. An electrical contact is positioned in the passageway and includes a resilient latch member that has a free end disposed in the latching aperture to retain the contact in the passageway. A projection extends outwardly from the latch member for engagement with an inside surface of the housing so that when a force opposite to the direction of insertion of the contact into the housing is applied to the contact the free end of the latch member is prevented from projecting beyond the outside surface of the housing.

  • Patent number: 4722580
Abstract: A cover and strain relief assembly is disclosed for use with known elongated electrical connectors for providing either a 90.degree. or 180.degree. cable exit from the connector. The subject cover assembly has three pieces including a yoke that engages a mounting flange of the connector and a pair of mating panels which snap together engaging both the yoke and the cable. The mating panels can be reversibly connected, with respect to the manner in which they engage the yoke to yield a 90.degree. or a 180.degree. cable exit from the connector. The panels can further be provided with adjustable cable strain relief means.

  • Patent number: 4722022
Abstract: A removable dielectric enclosure or boot assembly for enclosing a shielded line terminator. The enclosure has a cavity having an opening for receiving a shielded line terminator such that the shell of the shielded line terminator is flush with the opening when the shielded line terminator is disposed in the cavity. The enclosure has screws captured in screw receiving apertures spaced to align with apertures in the shell such that when the shielded line terminator is mated with a complementary connector, the threaded end thereof is received in nut means associated with the complementary connector and a shoulder on the screw bears against the rear surface of the shell as the screw is rotated to draw the shielded line terminator and dielectric enclosure toward the complementary connector.

  • Patent number: 4717354
Abstract: Solder cup connector comprises stamped and formed terminals loaded into passages of a one-piece housing. Each terminal has a mating portion formed in a first direction from the plane of the stock, a solder cup formed in a second, opposite direction from the plane of the stock, and a transition portion crossing the axis of the terminal to align the mating portion and the solder cup. Flanges extending laterally from the transition portion bend to engage the side walls of a respective passage as a terminal is inserted therein, and further bite into the housing if withdrawal is attempted. The transition portion also serves as a barrier which prevents wicking of solder into the mating portion.

  • Patent number: 4682400
Abstract: Apparatus for mass terminating discrete wires to a connector preloaded with terminals connected to a carrier strip comprises a press having a vertically movable upper tooling package aligned above a termination station and a lower tooling package movable to and from the termination station. The lower package includes a housing support, a carrier shear, and a wire shear bar which moves over the support by action of a camtrack as the lower tooling moves to the station. Descent of the upper tooling shears the wires and the carrier, then terminates the wires as it moves a terminal loader above the carrier shear into vertical alignment with the terminals. A detent holds the vertical alignment as a cam track advances the loader toward the connector to fully load the terminals in the connector as the lower package moves from the station.

  • Patent number: 4682391
Abstract: Cable harness manufacturing apparatus comprises a pair of rails defining a linear path through a workstation where a press terminates ribbon cable to connectors in connector receiving fixtures independently journaled to the rails. A first stop on the path positions connectors sequentially at the workstation while a series of second stops along the path downstream of the workstation act on the lead fixture to define the length of cable between pairs of connectors as well as triggering the press for sequential terminations of connectors in remaining fixtures. A cutter carriage journaled to the rails upstream of the workstation is spring loaded to urge remaining fixtures to the workstation. A third stop along the path downstream stops the lead fixture when it is desired to cut the cable, the cut end subsequently being drawn flushly into the last connector terminated.
