Abstract: An apparatus and method for retaining hair is disclosed. The apparatus includes a flexible member having a latching section and a band section. The band section includes a ridge portion and the latching section includes one or more teeth for selectively engaging with the ridge portion. The apparatus also includes a decorative sleeve for covering the band section. In operation, the band section can be wrapped around the group of hair and positioned with the latching section so that the one or more teeth engage with the ridge portion of the band section and thereby secure the band section into a loop around the hair.
