  • Patent number: 5956369
Abstract: A multipath-combining subsystem for receiving a spread-spectrum signal arriving from a plurality of paths. A header-matched filter detects each match, within each path, of a header-chip-sequence signal with a first impulse response and outputs a header-detection signal having a header amplitude and a respective chip location. A data-matched filter detects at the respective chip location of each header-detection signal, a respective data-chip-sequence signal and outputs a data-detection signal having a data amplitude. A combiner multiplies the header amplitude of each header-detection signal and the data amplitude of the respective data symbol to generate a plurality of weighted elements for each data symbol. The combiner then adds the plurality of weighted elements for each data symbol as a sum signal of the respective data symbol.

  • Patent number: 5894494
Abstract: A spread-spectrum-correlator apparatus including a symbol-shift register, an in-phase-symbol correlator, a quadrature-phase-symbol correlator, a frame-shift register, an in-phase-frame correlator, a quadrature-phase-frame correlator, and a control processor. The symbol-shift register circulates replicas of a header-chip-sequence signal or data-chip-sequence signal, which are used for in-phase-symbol correlating and the quadrature-phase-symbol correlating. The in-phase-frame correlator and the quadrature-phase-frame correlator detect a despread-header-symbol-sequence signal and generate a maximum output signal which may be used as a data-start signal or for synchronizing the timing of the control processor as to when to trigger sampling of the analog-to-digital converter, to set which chip-sequence signal is circulated in the symbol-shift register, to control the output of the symbol correlator, to detect the data-symbol-sequence signal and other time-dependent processes.

  • Patent number: 5864426
Abstract: An apparatus and method for increasing perceived reflectance of the blue component in a video image to achieve a balanced, full-color image when viewed on a video projection screen. The apparatus includes a video projection screen having a plurality of blue reflective elements, interspersed in an even distribution throughout a plurality of standard white reflective elements, for modifying a reflective index of the video projection screen to decrease the gain of the red and green components of a standard video transmission, resulting in an increase in perceived reflectance of the blue component of a video image when projected on the video projection screen. The method comprises the steps of adding blue pigment to a standard white projection screen; decreasing, responsive to the blue pigment, a red-green gain; and viewing a balanced, full-color image having a perceived increase in the reflective intensity of the blue component.

  • Patent number: 5852740
Abstract: A modular, polymorphic network interconnecting a plurality of electronically reconfigurable devices via a modular, polymorphic interconnect, to permit a fixed, physical configuration of operating hardware devices to take on a plurality of logically addressable configurations. The modular, polymorphic interconnect further permits allocation and deallocation of selected electronically reconfigurable devices for a particular logically addressable configuration. The modular, polymorphic interconnect additionally permits the logical topology of selected electronically reconfigurable devices to be configured as at least one mixed-radix, N-dimensional network. The logical topology of mixed-radix, N-dimensional networks can be dynamically changed under control for a new configuration of logical addresses for selected electronically reconfigurable devices.

  • Patent number: 5844619
Abstract: A system and method for eliminating flicker in an interlaced video-display image using an input-video processor, a feature-video processor, a frame buffer, an RGB-output processor, an output-video processor, a control processor, and a synchronized-clock doubler. An input video signal is processed as processed component video information and written to a video memory at a horizontal-scan rate and a vertical-scan rate. Based on the input video signal, a vertical-scan synchronization pulse and a horizontal-scan synchronization pulse are generated and then harmonically doubled. The processed component video information is read from the video memory, responsive to the harmonically doubled synchronization pulses, at a harmonically doubled horizontal-scan rate and a harmonically doubled vertical-scan rate, reading in an interlaced format, with each frame being contiguously read twice in a proper odd-even order as when normally read to generate four fields of video information per frame which may be interlaced.

  • Patent number: 5819029
Abstract: An automated third party verification system and method for verifying a customer's authorization to switch long distance service providers. The system broadly comprises a customer database manager, a third party verification (TPV) interactive voice response (IVR) system, and a TPV management system. The customer database manager contacts the customer and, responsive to the customer's authorization to switch long distance carriers, creates a text file of the customer's responses to a series of questions supporting the authorization. The text file is sent to the TPV IVR system. The TPV IVR system directs a series of scripted questions, corresponding to those already asked by the customer database manager, to the customer and records the responses as voice clips. The TPV management system presents the voice clips and the corresponding text file to a verifier through a voice data verification module.

  • Patent number: 5802102
Abstract: A spread-spectrum-matched-filter apparatus including a code generator, a programmable-matched filter, a frame-matched filter, and a controller. The code generator generates replicas of a pilot-chip-sequence signal and a data-chip-sequence signal, which are used to set the programmable-impulse response of the programmable-matched filter. The programmable-impulse response is alternately changed between that of the pilot-chip-sequence signal and the data-chip-sequence signal so that the programmable-matched filter alternately detects the pilot-spread-spectrum channel and the data-spread-spectrum channel embedded in a received spread-spectrum signal. The frame-matched filter detects a despread-pilot-bit-sequence signal and generates a peak-pilot-correlation signal which can be used for timing of the controller as to when to trigger changing the programmable-impulse response of the programmable-matched filter.

  • Patent number: 5764691
Abstract: A intelligent power management apparatus for use with a matched-filter. A multiplexer multiplexes shifted-in-phase chips and shifted-quadrature-phase chips from an in-phase-shift register and a quadrature-phase-shift register, respectively, to generate multiplexed chips. The multiplexed chips include alternating sets of shifted-in-phase chips and shifted-quadrature-phase chips. A controller generates a POWERDOWN signal when the multiplexed chips from a received-spread-spectrum signal do not have a particular-chip sequence. The controller generates an ACTIVATION signal when the multiplexed chips have the particular-chip sequence present. An adder tree generates a CORRELATION signal when the multiplexed chips have the particular-chip sequence and match or correlate with the settings of the adder tree. A number of AND gates inhibit the multiplexed chips from passing to the adder tree when the POWERDOWN signal is present, and pass the multiplexed chips to the adder tree when the ACTIVATION signal is present.

  • Patent number: 5742637
Abstract: A system and method for synchronizing a Costas Loop for demodulating a received spread-spectrum signal using a squaring device, a filter, a phase detector, a phase unwrapping subsystem, an oscillator, a derotator and a decision device. Phase-shift-keying modulation is removed from a received spread-spectrum signal through squaring. An in-phase component and a quadrature-phase component of the received spread-spectrum signal are filtered to generate an arbitrary phase angle, .theta.(t). A value of .theta. proportional to .theta.(t) is then estimated. The estimated .theta. value is processed to obtain an estimate for the .phi. value, and a cosine and a sine of the estimated .phi. value are generated by the oscillator. The derotator derotates the in-phase-component and the quadrature-phase component of the received spread-spectrum signal with the cosine and the sine of the estimated .theta. value to generate a demodulated signal. The decision device evaluates the demodulated signal and outputs data.
