Abstract: A threaded locking beam nut having a plurality of locking beams configured such that the inside edge surface of each locking beam has a radially inwardly angled surface thereby forming substantially a V-shaped channel between adjacent beams.

Abstract: This invention provides a method and apparatus for casting, hot rolling and annealing of non-heat treatable aluminum alloys which comprises continuously casting, hot rolling and, in-line with the hot rolling line, heating the aluminum sheet using infrared heat. The infrared heating system uses a control to assure that the aluminum alloy is heated to the proper temperature based on one or a number of process variables, such as hot rolling exit temperature, hot rolled product exit rate in terms of speed and product dimensions, and sheet temperature at the exit of the infrared heater. Variations in the infrared heating temperature can be tolerated in the product without deviating from target mechanical properties.

Abstract: An offset nose assembly for installing fasteners is provided that generally includes a drawbar, a swage anvil and a collet. The drawbar has three portions with the third portion transitioning from the second portion by a chamfer, the chamfer being of a preselected angle that is adapted to positively engage a chamfer of a preselected angle of a piston of a fastener installation tool. Additionally, a generally L-shaped guard assembly is provided that is disposed on the collet to cover a gap defined between the collet and the swage anvil. Also, a deflector is provided that is attached to a nut that is threadedly engaged with the rearward end of a bore in the collet, the deflector having a section of a uniform constant outside diameter that integrally transitions to a section that has an outside diameter that gradually lessens along its length.

Abstract: A can end is provided that has a three part chuck wall. The first chuck wall has an angle of 20 degrees to 35 degrees as measured from an axis perpendicular to the can end. The second chuck wall has an angle of 4 degrees to 27 degrees as measured from the axis. The third chuck wall has an angle of 18 degrees to 32 degrees as measured from the axis. Tooling adapted to manufacture the can end is also provided. Additionally, a seaming chuck is provided that has a recess that is adapted to avoid contact with radii of curvature along the chuck wall during seaming of the can end to a can body.

Abstract: A fastening system is provided that includes a fastener having a pin member with a lock groove and crest geometry that is optimized to receive swaged material from collars of materials of different strengths for securing workpieces for different load applications. The lock grooves have the longest width required for collars of lower strength for one application or greater strength for a second application and the crests have the longest width required for collars of greater strength for the second application whereby satisfactory clamp and tensile loads and resistance to failure will result when the lock grooves are filled with collar materials of different strengths. The lock groove and crest geometry is of a uniform construction for the plurality of applications with pin members of a common diameter.

Abstract: A two layer door is provided. The first layer is made of a plurality of metallic members with a portion of the metallic members having one or more channels adapted to receive one or more armor panels. The second layer is made of the channels of the metallic members and armor panels disposed within the channels. The door also has one or more pivotally attached panels to the door that are adapted to open at a preselected pressure differential across the door. The door is also available as a kit.

Abstract: A hydraulic installation tool for installing fasteners is provided, that includes a housing having a first portion adapted to receive a drawbar and a second portion adapted to receive a piston, a gland and a retaining ring. A generally L-shaped drawbar is disposed in the first portion of the housing and a piston, a gland and a retaining ring is disposed in the second portion of the housing. The hydraulic installation tool is useful in securing lockbolt or swage type fasteners.
