  • Patent number: 5430144
Abstract: There are disclosed certain novel compounds identified as benzo-fused lactams which promote the release of growth hormone in humans and animals. This property can be utilized to promote the growth of food animals to render the production of edible meat products more efficient, and in humans, to increase the stature of those afflicted with a lack of a normal secretion of natural growth hormone. Growth promoting compositions containing such benzo-fused lactams as the active ingredient thereof are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5424320
Abstract: Compounds having the formula I: ##STR1## are inhibitors of leukotriene biosynthesis. These compounds are useful as anti-asthmatic, anti-allergic, anti-inflammatory, and cytoprotective agents. They are also useful in treating angina, cerebral spasm, glomerular nephritis, hepatitis, endotoxemia, uveitis, and allograft rejection and in preventing the formation of atherosclerotic plaques.

  • Patent number: 5056377
Abstract: A tap selector anti-arcing system is used with rotary tap selectors to prevent arcing as the selectors move from one tap to the other. A lockout mechanism includes a pair of lever arms located adjacent two Geneva gears. The Geneva gears include pins disposed on opposed sides thereof to actuate one lever arm to thereby move the other lever arm to interferingly engage the pin on the other gear if the gears move simultaneously to engage the neutral and eighth taps. An interrupter is opened by linkage connected to a cam disposed on the drive mechanism for the Geneva gears to open the circuit during the movement of the Geneva gears from one tap to another.

  • Patent number: 4976048
Abstract: The tape measure includes a lock for locking the tape in an extended position from its case. The lock includes a toggle pivotably mounted on the case and a lock shoe extending from one end of the toggle to a position adjacent the tape. The case includes guides, such that when the toggle is depressed, the lock shoe is forced against the tape so as to wedge the tape between the lock shoe and the case to prevent its retraction.

  • Patent number: 4974477
Abstract: The speed wrench includes a plastic handle and a S-curve shaped shaft with a mount to receive tool driving or drilling inserts. The S-curve shaped shaft causes the axis of the tool to intersect the axis of the handle, thereby causing a cone-shaped pattern of rotation. The shaft permits the user to rotate the handle with wrist motion, thereby rotating the tool insert.

  • Patent number: 4593719
Abstract: A high frequency four-way valve reciprocated by hydromechanical amplifiers has its amplifier volumes volume compensated by passage means in each valve spool end connecting each amplifier volume with the adjacent outlet port. In a modification, there are longitudinally extending grooves on the outer periphery of each drive piston, one group of longitudinal grooves connecting the amplifier volume with the annular lubrication grooves around the piston and another group of longitudinal grooves connecting the annular grooves with the adjacent outlet port. The longitudinal grooves supply lubricant to the annular grooves, and also enhance the volume compensation.

  • Patent number: 4319648
Abstract: A directional drill attached to a drill string having periodic concentric collars is advanced in an inverted arcuate path to form a pilot hole underneath an obstacle followed by a larger concentric washover pipe. When the washover pipe reaches the surface on the other side of the obstacle a first reamer is attached to the end of the washover pipe exiting the drilling path, a second reamer of smaller diameter than the first reamer is attached to the other end of the first reamer by means providing for some separation between the two reamers, and a production casing of smaller diameter than the second reamer is attached to the other end of the second reamer with a swivel. The remaining length of the first portion of casing is supported some distance above the ground on rollers located above and beyond the exit point of the pilot hole. The reamers are operated by rotating the washover pipe and simultaneously drawing the washover pipe through the pilot hole.
