Patent number: 5720492Abstract: A rigid, removable cover for use on a truck's fifth wheel. The cover is intended for use when the fifth wheel is not being used, and a trailer is therefore not present. The cover prevents dirt and small rocks from becoming lodged in the friction-reducing grease covering the fifth wheel. Such rocks tend to scar and damage the fifth wheel later, when a trailer is attached, and substantial weight is put on the fifth wheel. A carrying box, sized to accept the rigid cover, is provided, and is typically mounted on the back of the truck cab. Notches in the box for the cover's handle require the user to insert the cover into the box with a consistent orientation, thereby preventing the transfer of grease from the one side of the cover to the other. The cover provides a body that is similar in shape to the fifth wheel and a rim that depends around the edge of the fifth wheel skid plate. A handle allows the user to install and remove the cover.Type: GrantFiled: August 25, 1995Date of Patent: February 24, 1998Inventor: Walter Wanzenried

Patent number: 5718962Abstract: A decorative ornament and supporting display box are disclosed. The decorative ornament provides an elongate body of a thin sheet material having a covering of holographic vinyl. The holographic vinyl has the characteristic of refracting light into a rainbow-like display of colors. The elongate body forms a spiral, having upper and lower ends that gently taper. The body has been cut to provide a large number of very narrow radially directed slats having squared ends. These slats provide a large number of planar surfaces each angled in a slightly different direction, which results in a more eye-catching display of color. A multifaceted crystal made of glass or other transparent material is carded by the bottom of the elongate body, pulling the body downwardly in a manner that causes it to be better displayed. A short segment of transparent support line carries the top of the helix body, allowing it to spin if touched or in a breeze.Type: GrantFiled: November 7, 1996Date of Patent: February 17, 1998Inventor: James H. Patent number: 5673519Abstract: Without a downspout extension rain water collected on the roof of a building is spilled onto the ground beside the foundation. This causes damp and musty basements and sometimes even cracked foundations. The problem with using a downspout extension is that it must be walked over; additionally it must be removed and re-installed in order to cut a lawn thereunder. The automatic extension device disclosed utilizes a rocker arm having a cup on one end and a latch/hook on the other. An upright tubular member having an upper end portion adapted to slide over the downspout and a lower end portion which elbows outwardly away from an adjacent building wall has an extension tube pivotably connected thereto. A channel extending laterally and downwardly from inside the upright tubular member to above the cup diverts rain water from the downspout into the cup. The extension tube is stored in an upright position having one end held up by the latch/hook.Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 1995Date of Patent: October 7, 1997Inventor: Brian McCaughan

Patent number: 5593052Abstract: A two-sided baby bottle having a divided fluid container is disclosed. The divided fluid container allows the storage of two fluids, such as milk and juice, in a single baby bottle. A stopper, attached to an annular flange of a flexible nipple, is inserted into the opening of the cavity on one side of the bottle, preventing passage of fluid. A threaded collar, similar that used with prior art baby bottles, presses the flange of the nipple against the rim of the bottle, making a fluid-tight seal. A ring, supported by a stem connected to an anchor inside the stopper, allows the user to remove the stopper when desired, after removal of the threaded collar. The stopper may then be inserted into the opening of the second side of the bottle. The nipple, attached to the stopper, tends to prevent the stopper from being forced all the way into either half of the bottle.Type: GrantFiled: August 7, 1995Date of Patent: January 14, 1997Inventor: Michael McGee
