Abstract: A caster including at least one belt driving and guiding system for driving and guiding a movable belt through a casting zone where molten metal is cast. The belt driving and guiding system includes a first coil having an axis of rotation, the first coil being positioned relative to the caster such that the first coil can be moved so that its axis of rotation is spaced generally parallel to its axis of rotation before it was moved. The belt driving and guiding system also includes a second coil. In this way, the movable belt can be alternately uncoiled and coiled from the first coil and the second coil without having to dismount either the first or second coil from the caster. An associated method of casting molten metal is also disclosed.
Abstract: A method of making a food package including a food package tray and a food package jacket. The method involves placing a food package tray on a mandrel such that the inner surface of the tray contacts at least a portion of the mandrel. After this, the food package jacket is placed on the food package tray so that the food package jacket partially surrounds the food package tray. The food package jacket is then secured to the food package tray to make the food package. An associated apparatus is also provided.
Abstract: A method for determining the sensitivity of at least one nonparaffinophilic microorganism from a specimen obtained from a patient to different antimicrobial agent and predetermined quantities thereof. The method includes providing at least one receptacle containing an aqueous solution and inoculating the solution with the specimen. The method further includes placing into the receptacle (i) a slide coated with a carbon source and (ii) a predetermined quantity of an antimicrobial agent to be tested. By observing the nonparaffinophilic microorganism growth or lack thereof on the slide, it can be determined whether the predetermined quantity of the antimicrobial agent is effective in inhibiting growth of the nonparaffinophilic microorganism on the slide. An associated apparatus is also disclosed.
Abstract: A cooling system for a belt caster including at least one movable belt. The cooling system includes a plurality of rollers and a plurality of nozzles arranged between the rollers to deliver coolant to the belt. The rollers provide a rolling support surface upon which the belt may be supported and are constructed and arranged so that a maximum number of nozzles can be provided to deliver coolant to the belt of the caster. In another embodiment, the cooling system includes a cooling box having (i) a first chamber for receiving coolant from a coolant supply; (ii) supply tubes for delivering coolant from the first chamber to a second chamber defined by a cooling face of the cooling box and the cooling surface of the belt; and (iii) a third chamber for receiving coolant from the second chamber. Associated methods of casting a molten metal into a metal product are also disclosed.

Abstract: A curing envelope spreader used to encase a tire during a tire retreading process. The curing envelope spreader includes a frame and a plurality of a curing envelope engaging means mounted to the frame. Each of the curing envelope engaging means is movable in an generally radially outward path to spread the curing envelope. An associated method of retreading a tire is also provided.

Abstract: A method of determining the presence or absence of a nonparaffinophilic microorganism in a specimen taken from a patient. The method includes providing a receptacle containing an aqueous solution and adjusting the solution to mimic the in vivo clinical conditions of the patient. The method further includes inoculating the solution with the specimen and then placing in the receptacle a slide coated with a carbon source to bait the nonparaffinophilic microorganism. The slide is then analyzed after exposure to the specimen to determine the presence or absence of the nonparaffinophilic microorganism. An associated apparatus is also disclosed.
