Abstract: Therapeutic 5-aminosalicylic acid derivative compositions having general formula (I), wherein R is a 1-deoxy sugar residue or a poly(ethylene glycol) chain-containing residue, are provided. The compositions enable topical delivery of 5-aminosalicylic acid to the gastrointestinal tract following oral administration in pharmaceutical preparations.

Abstract: The present invention provides biotechnologically useful oligo(ethylene glycol)-terminated 1,2-dithiolane compositions and conjugates of these compositions with biological or non-biological receptor, ligand, sequestering, or reporter moieties to provide physiologically active therapeutic compositions. The invention also provides methods for the preparation of these compositions. Further, the invention provides self-assembled monolayer (SAM) compositions on a metal and methods for their preparation.

Abstract: The present invention provides various covalently modified hemoglobin compositions, each having a low temperature-dependent oxygen-binding function. The present invention also provides methods for preparing the hemoglobin compositions wherein a hemoglobin is intra-molecularly cross-linked and covalently modified with a class of hydrodynamic volume-enhancing, anionic compounds. The present invention also provides therapeutic, oxygen-delivering compositions comprising the hemoglobin compositions and pharmaceutically useful vehicles. Moreover, the present invention provides methods for delivering oxygen to cells or tissues using these compositions.
